Happy New Year, Mets fans and Let’s Go Mets

Matthew Cerrone, Lead Writer

It’s been an unbelievable 12 months for MetsBlog.com. We’re going to do more than 5 million page views this December, the most of any month during the site’s 10-year run. We will log over 40,000,000 clicks for 2013, the most for a single year. The only thing that could make writing this site more fun than it already is would be to see our favorite team legitimately push for — and make — the playoffs. Hopefully, this happens in 2014.

New YearWe like to move the goalposts on the blog, continually striving to change for the better and keep up with — or ahead of — the latest ideas in digital publishing. I do this because my goal is to keep making what we do useful, subtle, simple and easy to read. I dip and swerve, adjust and work hard to stay ahead of digital trends. And, through it all, I appreciate your patience, loyalty and feedback. It does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. You mean the world to me and I’m very thankful for everyone who enjoys what we do.

I’m in the business of customer service, keeping you aware, and in the loop, of what’s going on with the Mets, offering context and some insight along the way, and doing it as a passionate fan who cares about the same things you do. I hope this is reflected in the work and that you keep reading in 2014…

Happy New Year and Let’s Go Mets!!

Matt - you've done a sensational job with this forum and I read almost every day from Bangkok where I try to follow my beloved Metsies as closely as possible. Keep up the great work!

If you want to go to a different site then do it. I'm sure every person who checks out metsblog knows other Mets sites to check for other opinions and what not. No need to spam the comments. If you don't like what's written here don't read it. Keep it up Cerrone and Co.! And happy new year to all!!

How can Ricciardi & Alderson have an 81% approval?   This blog is trying to tell us that a team that will be 15-20 games below .500 is a wildcard contender!

All those page views just this December? If anyone ever wonders why the MLB still carries on with the seemingly useless winter meetings you need to look no further than this. Metsblog had all time page view stats in December, the heart if the offseason because this winter meetings, as useless as they are, generate a huge amount of buzz. Just picture all the desperate mets fans checking and rechecking all the latest rumors.

We're 13 hours and 57 minutes into the New Year and we haven't had an Ike Davis trade update.  This is a clear indication that the apocalypse is upon us.

in fairness the only reason Morales was a DH is because the mariners asked Justin Smoak to DH and Smoak wouldn't do it. Morales can play first base.

Happy New Year, Matt and the rest of the MetsBlog staff. This blog has been a great resource for me for the past 10 years. I think your challenge will be to continue to create a valued experience for Mets fans in an age where information is aggregated and distributed so efficiently with Twitter. I look forward to see how you attack that.

I think if we add Drew at ss that would mean we filled enough holes to have a nice little club going in to 2014 and could easily be in a race for a wc in September

people may complain about this blog, yes sometimes there are things that annoy me about it, but look at other team blogs around, this is one of the best.

I want everyone who goes on this site from fans to writers to to have nothing but peace and prosperity in 2014, and a year from now have only good memories of 2014. Best of luck to all and above be safe and blessed.

Happy New Year to Matt and all my fellow Mets fans. Wishing good health and happiness to you and your loved ones in the upcoming year. Let's make that 81% fan confidence rating legit in 2014.

Piazza didn't throw many runners out, especially with the Mets. As far as blocking balls I would say he was average. He seemed to handle most of his pitchers pretty well.

Derpy

@ponzies86 He had a limited/bad arm, but he called a good game and wasn't too bad at blocking the ball.    If you go by pure old school catcher metrics, he was not good.  But if you look at it objectively, he was at least average, if not better.

@howard_stn they had a positive fan confidence rating up forever. then i among others, called em out on it daily and started posting a JPEG of a guy raising his eyebrows questioning the validity and relevance.   with little choice to the calling-out effort of us fans,  cerrone took it down and posted a new more accurate one, somewhere in the 20's i believe. it lasted maybe a week or two because cerrone rushed up another one the second the mets made one signing. and i predicted it would play out exactly that way.

so basically we saw a positive one for months which was inaccurate to the contemporary feeling, then finally after being called out they put up an accurate one which lasted no time at all because the moment the mets spent any money a new one was rushed out and is what you see posted today at 81%.

@howard_stn I always just vote I approve because the poll seems to enrage so many people.

@davespain I honestly think he believes he is some sort of internet trailblazer, doing an amazing job, just misunderstood and criticized by the peons.  He appreciates the drones who fawn over all of his work, and those who offer the slightest bit of negative feedback or, <gasp> outright criticism over his weaknesses and faults are dismissed as irrelevant haters.

@cj1786 agreed. you can bronson arroyo us to death and reshuffle old postings with very little new variance and people inlcuding myself keep coming back.

@Mark Griffith Great point.  This blog is no longer the best place to get information/breaking news because their sources have usually put things out onto Twitter before things get posted here.  Without that going for them, and with the comment section having been watered down, the question is if they can evolve this blog into something useful going forward.

Gland1
Gland1

@Mike Goudreau Yes but it could be the best if they actually fixed their issues.  For someone who says he's in the "business of customer service" Cerrone doesn't pay that much attention to his customers.

@Muhammad Khan Nope. Wait til the year after next year. And then it will be wait until next year. Catch 22. Always a year away. Just like the sign: Free Beer. Tomorrow.

@harvey33 The problem with it being a reporting website is that Twitter will beat it there too.  So it's becoming completely useless.

I have to say, the consistent idiocy of your comments is very, very impressive.

You provide a great source of humor--thanks!

@harvey33 yea and this whole new commenting system is really bad.  You cant really follow what others have replied to you unless you keep going back and looking, I don't really have time for that. Not to mention all the things you cant say with out it being deleted.  And im not talking bad words or anything.  eh what can you do.  I do prefer mets MO now much more, see u there harvey

@harvey33 I just follow the same guys on Twitter.  Same result.

Gland1

@Ryan Flanagan @Gland1 @harvey33 You are absolutely correct.  However instead of trying to improve they decided to just mess with the comment section to eliminate conversation and bring in more generic Facebook comments.

Ryan Flanagan

@Gland1 @harvey33 That's when you need professional journalism and read-worthy articles on the site with the reality that you can't keep pace with twitter. All this site serves is a place for old information dumps and its grown old.
