Milwaukee Brewers v Pittsburgh Pirates

Guess who’s back? Ike is back

The Mets welcome Ike Davis and the Pittsburgh Pirates for the start of  a three-game series Monday afternoon.

The Mets traded Davis in late April for a minor league RHP Zack Thornton and a player to be named later.

“It’ll be weird being in the visiting clubhouse for the first time,” Davis said (MLB.com, May 25). “Truth is, it’s not something big to me. Just gotta do it, go and try to beat the Mets.”

In New York last week to play the Yankees, Davis said, “It’s nice to play for someone that actually wants you or thinks that you can help the team.”

He is batting .303 with 2 HR and 11 RBI in 99 at bats since being traded to Pittsburgh.

“Really, it takes a while during the season to find a groove, and I’m usually pretty decent once I do find it,” said Davis. “Usually it takes me a little longer. I found it earlier this year.”

Meanwhile, Lucas Duda also has 2 HR and 11 RBI since Davis was traded, however he’s batting just .208.

Why do we have to listen to Keith Hernandez's negativity? Everyday he puts players down, no ones as good as I was. A-hole

If Ike was so good why was Sanchez Pinch hitting for him late?

what is up this team never hitting with men in scoring spot and then the bullpen chokes on spots late in game

20 years from now most people will say "Ike who? .

deGrom toughed through till the 7th inning without giving up a run and had 2 hits to boot.  He did not have his best stuff but still made it a descent start.

Said Ike Davis. “Usually it takes me a little longer. I found it earlier this year.”

Yea... But not with the Mets--Ike!

This team is lacking talent. Let's be honest. It's not the hitting coach, it's the players. When Hudgens was Oakland's hitting coach the players did well and the team won. So now he doesn't know what to do? Really?

When a player hits into a double play with the bases loaded, or strikes out with runners in scoring position it's the player. They are supposed to succeed. On this team they don't because they are not good players

openmind6

Is Ike implying the Mets didn't give him enough chance to succeed? He got a million chances here and didn't get it done.

He stinks? He's batting almost 280 and everyone in this group said duda is better....... How's duda doing? He sucks

I hope he crushes 3 homeruns this series. And we get swepted. This organization is so stupid. Let's get rid of a guy who actually has talent and keep the Triple-A player. Duda is a bum

I hope he goes sick this series against the METS!!  How's Lucas working out for us so far???

what's the over under on whether Ike gets cheered or booed?

They should congratulate him for getting off this horrid team. It's so embarrassing to be a met fan.

The best to IKE. Sandy has his favorites and its minor league players.

I am glad he is doing well, but the power is missing. He struggled and it had to hurt when he got shopped, but he wasn't producing. He was a good clubhouse guy and handled a lot of crap with a ton of humility. Never a bad work..classy guy.

Collin's refuses to guard the Line in the late innings.  We got burned again.

@coldbluesteele  Agreed!! I have been very disappointed with his hitting!! No power, and he doesn't drive the ball at all to compensate for the lack of power, He's most likely a AAAA player.

@hankincolo I'd be far more inclined to boo his worshipers than him. Plus he'd tear up, and I'm not cruel to rich jocks.

@hankincolo Considering the amount of drunken low lifes that get into the park.... I'd always assume booed.

@kefhrny17 In fairness, when did he get even a half season of playing time while not injured? They've done way more to try and maximize Duda... a guy who's proven nothing. He wasn't even that good in the minors.  There is literally no evidence that this guy can put up numbers.

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@kefhrny17 Duda's a plan b, needed because Ike sucked. At least ya never hear daddy Duda moaning about his son's treatment.

stage52

@Samuel Mateyak  Well that is a truth because Ike never came close to being as good as Keith Hernandez.  At least he is not a homer like too many announcers today.

@Samuel Mateyak  A good hitter hits against Lefty or right handed pitchers.  More Modern day BS.

Why are people talking about Ike.We all couldn't wait to get rid of that bum.He is a player that needs no pressure on him. Can't happen in NY.We need better players here.Get real players Now!!!!!!!!!

@coldbluesteele @openmind6 YES! WELL SAID, look at ike then look at granderson that ditched whatever hudgens wanted him to do and went back to a style he used while with the yankees. ike is hitting and so is granderson.  none of the other mets are hitting because they wont challenge their hitting coach.

openmind6

@Coldbluesteele

Pittsburgh Pirates, totally different world. If anything, it proves Ike Davis is a head case.

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@qualcomm Remember when Ike kept it quiet he was injured, then leaked he was injured, then got mad at the reporter for saying he was injured?

"I sucked because I sucked."

His stance does looked more balanced now, I'll give you that one. But Keith also said last year that Ike was not very coachable.

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@hankincolo Yeah but unless it's Farve, they cry as they're actually leaving the sport.

anymos

@Nick Squatrito Stop acting like he's an all-star now.  He's still Ike- which means he's just as likely to hit .150 for two months now as he was with the Mets.

qualcomm
qualcomm

@cmetsfan If that was the only thing, i'd get over it.  This team just never admits to anything and it's hard to enjoy a cake if someone is constantly crapping in the middle of it and telling you it's chocolate pudding.

Nick Squatrito
Nick Squatrito

Why couldn't guys in the Mets organization change his stance? Is it because maybe they are all clueless? I don't even know out hitting coaches name but he's doing a hell of a job so far. Good thing we fired HoJo. Warthen is a useless sac of crap as well

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@qualcomm Lack of accountability!!!!!

I agree!! It wasn't working here with Ike. Keith already said the pirates have changed his stance. Ya gotta let it go.

qualcomm
qualcomm

@cmetsfan Because things never get better if you don't embrace mistakes.  You're forever destined to repeat them.  This entire team's lack of accountability (ownership on down) has been and will always be their downfall.

@cmetsfan @qualcomm  qualcomm will not shut up till you smack him over the head.  LOL Bad  Parrot

@qualcomm ...

Debating Ike Davis value is awfully boring. Think I'd rather watch the game at this point.

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@qualcomm Dude your in player fan psychology territory. Enjoy the pirates series featuring Ike Davis.

qualcomm
qualcomm

@cmetsfan That's really all part of the same issue; Sandy looking for undiscovered value and being wrong almost every single time.

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@qualcomm Chris young was promised starts by Sandy, and Chris Young's only been here just under 2 months.

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@qualcomm But that's my point! It's not Duda's fault Ike struggled. Ike was tradeable so the mets sent him away, because they have the same thing in Duda, but there was no market for Duda.

Pittsburgh changed Ike's batting stance. They felt they could fix him and took a chance. Ike didn't fix himself for the mets.

qualcomm
qualcomm

@cmetsfan He never had consistent at bats.  They've given Chris Young more of a chance.

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@hankincolo He didn't hit a over a year man!!!lol. Come on, he was not the same guy since the ankle collision!!

qualcomm
qualcomm

@hankincolo You've got to love the pressure and over exposure put on poor Dom Smith.  It's textbook 101 on what not to do to a young player.  They're showing him you can have the starting job and all the attention without having done anything -- literally nothing.

What happens when golden child gets here and he gets booed by the drunks at Citi for performing like Dom Smith and not the promo campaign version of the guy?

qualcomm
qualcomm

@cmetsfan "he's just the other tall guy who masks some of Wright's bad throws." < That's probably the most accurate thing I've ever read on this board.

qualcomm
qualcomm

@hankincolo Dude is a classic case of someone who has shown he can't handle anywhere. He didn't hit for much power in the minors either... the lowest profile stage of pro ball there is.

He must put on some sort of BP show, because he's starting because of swings off a batting practice pitcher.

hankincolo
hankincolo

@cmetsfan @hankincolo In the best case scenerio, they spent money on Abreu, not the old guy in right.but we all know this team has limited cash on hand. Unlike congress, let's just agree to disagree. I think Ike would've been the better bet to keep. I would've said, Ike, you get a month, don't hit, then you're gone. But noooo, they went with a guy who had question mark written all over him.
A guy who looked like the guy who had to be smacked around by Marlon Brando, whining about not getting the part in the movie. Geeesh.

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@hankincolo You really think it's that hard to find a first baseman with some power? We had Piazza over there! Somebody else can do it! It's first base!

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@hankincolo Duda was a plan b. If he was tradeable, the mets would of traded him, not Davis. People bash Duda, but Duda's here because of Ike's failings. Duda was not the plan, he's just the other tall guy who masks some of Wright's bad throws.

hankincolo
hankincolo

@kefhrny17 Duda is classic case of a guy who has shown he can't handle the heat of NYC, he'll be better off in Minny or KC someday. Prove me wrong Duda, show some guts and swing at one of those juicy early in the count fastballs down the middle you keep watching.

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@kefhrny17 His performance wasn't very good, and his dad was annoying. I don't believe if Duda's dad mouthed off, you say it doesn't matter.

Listen to the game. Keith already said the pirates changed Ike's stance.

They had to help Ike change!

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@qualcomm Doesn't matter how bad Duda is.

Duda's just the other tall guy that can handle Wright's throws. If Davis was what he was supposed to be, you never have to watch Duda play first for the mets!

qualcomm
qualcomm

@cmetsfan True, he's practically asleep. Sometimes when he's at bat, I forget the game is on.  It's like someone shut the TV off...

In the 80's, half the team was obnoxious and I loved every minute of it.

cmetsfan
cmetsfan

@qualcomm He's way less obnoxious than Ike. It's probably worth losing the batting average points.
