Granderson will get more at bats, Wright and Murphy will rest more

Curtis Granderson asked Terry Collins for more at bats during spring training, and the manager has said he will get the outfielder to the plate as much as possible.

Granderson only played in 61 games in 2013 with the Yankees due to two broken bones.

On the flip side, Collins said he will give David Wright and Daniel Murphy more rest than usual during camp in an effort to keep them fresh for the regular season. Collins pointed to their tireless work ethic as a reason to keep them out of more games, because if he plays them, they go maximum effort all the time.

Heck.  Give Den Dekker more at bats.  He played in even less games last year.  Seems the Mets spent some big Left Field free agent bucks a few years ago thinking it would solve their problems.

Do not over expose him please.  He is 33 and I do not want him to waste too many AB's in PSL.  I like the work ethic though.  Just keep him comfortable.

I understand not to go max effort in ST to save energy but shouldn't all your players have a max effort mentality once the season starts and not just a couple of players.

Ichrio demands trade after Gardner extension....ichrio makes 6.5 mil, if it didn't take a whole lot in a trade to get him, would you take a chance?

"Collins pointed to their tireless work ethic as a reason to keep them out of more games, because if he plays them, they go maximum effort all the time."  Yes, it sounds naive, but shouldn't all of your players have a desire to "...go maximum effort all the time?"

@Bob Burket I think more then work ethic it's guys that are in the lineup literally every day as long as they are healthy.  Especially considering how injury prone Wright has been the last few years, he should be given as very light Spring workload..

@anthony G. Decesare NO way.  We have one of the worst hitters from 2013 on our team in EYJ, adding Ichiro is adding another one of the worst from last year to the pile.

@anthony G. Decesare absolutely not. What is the point in making a play for a much older shell of his former self? I would rather run out Lagares or EY and really learn what they can contribute.

Sandy wont make that move for Ichiro and I for one am glad

Whoopsie, it looks like someone's comment didn't sound right.  Guess someone didn't want it to seem that Daniel Murphy might coast through Spring Training because the Mets have no one to compete with him.
