Curtis Granderson returns to the starting lineup on Sunday against the Padres and will bat leadoff and play center field.
Granderson was left out of the starting lineup in the three previous games with a left calf strain, though he did pinch hit in Saturday’s 5-0 loss to the Padres. Granderson is playing center with Andre Brown in left and Bobby Abreu in right.
Granderson is also batting leadoff for the first time this year, the eighth leadoff batter for the Mets on the season. Granderson, who is batting .281 in 135 at bats with seven home runs and 23 RBI with a .389 on-base percentage since May 1, has extensive leadoff experience early in his career with the Detroit Tigers.
The majority of Granderson’s at bats this season — 156 — have come in the cleanup spot.
