Curtis Granderson will not be in Thursday’s starting lineup because of a ‘calf issue,’ though he may be available to pinch hit later in the night, Terry Collins told reporters before the game.
Andrew Brown will instead start in left field.
“It’s just not loosening up,” Collins said of Granderson’s calf. “I told him, ‘If I have to lose you one or two games instead of 3-4 weeks, that’s fine.'”
Collins said he expects Granderson will be looked at by team doctors sooner than later.
Granderson has reached base safely in 23 straight games, the second-longest current streak in the majors. He has reached safely in a career-best 28 consecutive games.
Granderson is hitting .281 in 135 at bats with seven home runs and 23 RBI with a .389 on-base percentage since May 1.
