Curtis Granderson waits in the dugout

Granderson moved from clean-up spot

Terry Collins is considering moving Curtis Granderson out of the cleanup spot, the manager said after Saturday’s game.

Update 10:30 a.m.: Granderson will bat second on Sunday. Daniel Murphy will bat cleanup.

Granderson, who signed a four-year, $60 million deal this past winter, went 0-for-5 earlier in the night. He left six runners on base.

He is now batting .140 with four RBI. He has struck out in nearly 30% of his plate appearances this season.

Collins met with Granderson before Saturday’s game. He told Collins he is not pressing, and he trusts that things will begin to turn around for him at the plate.

Can Sandy call out Joe Girrardi for "abusing" granderson a la Pedro Feliciano.

I'm Holding out hope that Grandy doesn't turn out to be Jason Bay 2.0. His start here hasn't been great but it's way too early to quit on him yet. he's a good player and has four years to turn it around.

How long before Granderson's contract becomes the next reason the Mets don't sign anyone?  The front office, in a year or two, will point to it as the harbinger of bad contracts and the evils of long term deals while conveniently leaving out the part that THEY are the ones who made this decision.  Then it will be 3 years after this of waiting for it to come off the books and the Mets will loiter in the bottom quarter of payroll teams.

My hope is that Granderson can at least be an average OFer going forward and the Mets realize he is just a small part of the team, not a marquis player that they build around.  But at 15M, that is very unlikely.  But hey, at the least, he'll be great for the community.

Wondering if the Mets are starting to realize what everyone else already knew....signing him to four years and 60+ million was a huge mistake. He was never a main player on the Yanks and was surrounded with a better offensive lineup. He is second or any third tier player that should bat 6 or 7.

So where do we go from here...our losing count down is already at 9, 81 more to go...quite frankly I believe we will surpass the 90 loses and Grandyman will have 300 strikeouts to win ESPN's Whiff contest!

Ok folks don't hike on Grandy too much because he's the main star in ESPN's the Whiffs segment...lol

Can we please chill out with the Jason Bay = Curtis Granderson freak out?

Granderson has not looked good, but I think if you give it more than 3 weeks of baseball, you will see he is not the apocalypse that was the Jason Bay signing.

It's gonna be annoying when Cerrone and all the fans like him start criticizing Sandy for the Grandy deal; even though they all demanded it. 4/60mil for a whole lotta Ks and nothing else.

Oh, the Grandy Man can, yes, the Grandy Man can.

Terry has to do something with this line-up but this has the distinct whiff of shuffling deck chairs.

I like grandy hitting second. Called it during the game last night, but Duda should hit four and Murphy five or six.

Granderson and this bullpen are clearly Sandy's mess.

Carlos Delgado in 2007 was batting 200 for the first 40 games ended up murdering the ball the next 120. It's okay it's part of the game, jason bay just left us a bad taste in our mouths so we r immediately in panic mode.

I don't fully get Granderson hitting second. He consistently is one of the top players in Pitches Per Plate Appearance in the league (a vastly underrated stat). It's a good stat to have in the 2 hole. The problem is you'd also like some ability to get on base there which Granderson doesn't have (even at his best I don't recall his OBP being one of his best traits). He certainly isn't getting on base much currently.

Best comment I've heard about him and Wright came from Keith Hernandez. Terry had a plan to ease them into the season since they're both getting a litle older and coming off injuries. Keith argued that was mistake, they both needed to get their strokes going in ST, since they lost playing time last season.

Did the Yanks know something the Mets didn't about this guy? Seems like it.

@Tom Kraupner  They knew the whole time, they just signed him because they knew they could get him and they knew they needed to make a move. The team is a joke

@SuperDuper  Curtis Bay.  I get what you did there!  You combined Curtis Granderson and Jason Bay's names in order to show that Granderson is the new Bay.  That is beyond clever.

@openmind6  yes he signed for less money than Bay. That is where the differences end

@openmind6 you do have an open mind but it doesn't work properly...this must be Sandy Alderson...GOTCHA!

@joebloe  When will Cerrone criticize Sandy?  You do read this blog, right?

Granderson's stats have been on a downhill slide for years, not at bats.

hankincolo

He was the last true power hitter this team had. Ike looked like he'd be the next one, but then we all know how that ended.

hankincolo

Can you blame us? Seems like everytime things are looking up, something bad happens. Harvey is great, oh no, he's injuried. Grandy, great signing, he'll handle the NY pressure, uh, what? He's batting how much? Parnell is back from a neck injury. What? he's out again? Mets on a roll on the road, time to win at home, and now, we're once again reading,...Mets will try to salvage the series.

Not to mention Grandy is a K machine. TC is a low IQ manager. The dude is not hitting so let's move him up in the order as opposed to down. Brilliant

If I knew it how could Sandy not know. Granderson's BA has declined while his strikeout rate has soared the few years. It's no secret.

The Yankees , Cardinals and Braves, to name a few, clearly know a lot that the Mets do not.

The shame of it is this outfield had potential coming into the season. but then Chris Young who was hitting in ST gets hurt, and while Legares was hitting, then he leaves for a couple weeks.

This team can't seem to catch a friggin' break, other than the bad kind.

Olerud42

@hankincolo  Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Delgado, was a GREAT top half of the order.  Omar apparently sucks and Sandy is a genius though.

@ken1010 @Tom Gallagher  Better than the fastballs right down the middle he can't hit presently?  Wither you can hit, or you can't, and at this moment he can't.  I guess that's why he's a Met.

@wingo43  Sandy just heeded the wishes of all the Mets fans who wanted him. l o l

i know teams like to get rid of guys one year too soon, than one year too late, but this is ridiculous.  Have his skills diminished that much?

Let jose walk... trade pagan... and slowly and softly create a crappy moneyball team. How much better would two years of ervin santana been vs two years of Bartolo Colon?
