Gonzalez Germen 1

Gonzalez Germen pitches again, nearing return from DL

June 10: Mets RHP Gonzalez Germen pitched 1/3 of an inning for the Single-A St. Lucie Mets on Monday night. He has pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings while working back from the disabled list.

Germen has been sidelined since May 6 with a virus and an abscess (ESPN, June 9).

Terry Collins indicated Germen would rejoin the Mets when he is activated from the disabled list, rather than simultaneously be optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas. This decision follows the 26-year-old’s back-to-back relief appearances for Class-A St. Lucie on Friday and Saturday.

“We are assessing whether a Las Vegas stint will be necessary,” Sandy Alderson said. “We’ll know more later today.”

We need pitchers who can pitch a shut out and hit a home run. Otherwise forget it

“We are assessing whether a Las Vegas stint will be necessary". Sandy, I've had enough of your politically correct b.s. already. I guess it's because i'm sick of your leadership as Mets GM. Please fire yourself (and your manager)

For most of the roster Las Vegas is the last stop, maybe he can come back and pitchmore than an inning. Other than Dice K in the pen... this "starters go 6", then we turn to  some 4A guys for a hold the next inning (each) is nuts.  Starters can go L O N G,they get 4 days off between. Relievers can do a couple innnings +. Change the broken philosophy and management. This team is so concerned not hurting their "tender investments" when it seems we have player after player on DL, year after year. It doesn't work. Relook the 70's/80's philosophy and incorporate some CHANGE. This is 77-82 all over again. Do something DIFFERENT! We can't so any worse!

When he's ready, send Rice to AAA.

Maybe for AAA Vegas. Not in NY. He comes in and throws gas on the fire.

We need all the help we can get! Hopefully he can get the job done!

I know we're supposed to see what the young kids can do.  Just wondering if we should have also seen what Buddy Carlyle can do, since he seemed OK.  This kid struck out about a batter per inning, but in 17.2 innings, also gave up 3 HRs.  Not sure if I trust him or Edgin now, if we are actually trying to win games again any time soon:)  And I second the comment next to mine - had his moments, but overall ineffective...like the rest.  Speaking of that, it seems that maybe Torres' overuse is starting to catch up to him a bit.

A virus and a swollen bumhole sidelined him for over a month...that is rough.

I'm starting to hate this team, they are an embarrassment to Mets fans and New York!!!!!!!

@cver German is effective when used properly. Not when he tosses 3 innings, then goes back out the next day. These guys needs roles and to know when they are going to pitch.

@cver They are all overused. Sometimes it seems Collins brings in pitchers just because they are there.

We have good players. Their AAA stats show more than we see at the big club and that makes me wonder. It's like these guys gain the confidence in AAA then get it bashed out of them in NY.
