Gonzalez Germen demoted to Triple-A to make room for Dillon Gee

The Mets announced after Tuesday’s win that RHP Gonzalez Germen has been optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas.

The move was made in order to clear room on the roster for Dillon Gee, who is expected to be activated from the disabled list and get the start on Wednesday.

Germen, 26, had posted a 4.78 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 26.1 innings pitched spanning 21 appearances.

Germen goes but Carlyle stays? What's the logic in that move?

all the more reason why it made no sense to bring in Familia last night instead of Germen

Its unfortunate that the Mets can't be the first ever team to have an 8 man rotation, but the fact remains:  there's no way ALL these arms end up in the rotation or pen.   some of them are going to have to be moved. I'm a little concerned with SA's ability to trade FOR ML talent since, you know...he hasn't done it yet.  But more than that, I don't trust that if they do trade for ML talent, that they have the means to RETAIN that talent.    What good is it to stockpile all these arms if SA can't convert them into what this team needs between the lines?

I think they need to get him regular work to work on his command, and he wasn't getting it here with terry using familia, torres, and mejia every single game lol

So impressed with Dillon Gee; he's consistent, efficient and poised. I didn't think he could ever perform at this level watching him a few years ago. Also is / can be a solid influence on the young guys. would like to see him cemented as our number 4 or 5 next year.

Say what you will about Mets management, but in regards to the pitching staff, they have moved quickly and decisively from the get-go this season. Get performing or get packing. It took spring training and three months, but it looks like we've mostly separated the wheat from the chaff and from a pitching standpoint, can make a decent second half run.

With Grandy, TDA and Duda coming around, I like where we are headed moving forward but you have to wonder if we haven't dug ourselves too deep a hole.

I didn't give a rip until I realized I was a Met fan. I shall now find something awry in the space time continuum

Good, Germen doesn't belong in the show right now

Matsuzaka to the pen. I like it. I think Dice has been an unsung rock star for this team, starting and relieving on command. If my dad were around he would say that Matsuzaka has been our Don Newcombe. Nice company.

Good for Buddy. Germen just wasn't getting it done.

Thank goodness,  German needed to be sent somewhere.

Carlyle deserves a chance.  Germen has struggled.  Electric stuff, but enigmatic

@Randy Wilcox

As you said, "It took spring training and three months."  Thus it's not accurate that "they have moved quickly and decisively from the get-go."

We lost four or five games due to using Valverde, Farnsworth, Lannan.  Terry's instinct is always to go with experience over younger guys, until it blows up in his face.  It would be nice if we hadn't done that, and were a bit closer to .500 now.

That said the pen looks good now, though it might be too late to make a run at the playoffs.  We have 72 games to play and have to play close to .700 from here on in to get to 90 wins.  Are we really that good?  We have a big hole to climb out of.

Let's turn this hot-streak into a 10-game winning streak, and then we'll have a chance.

I agree that the FO has a great job rebuilding the pitching corps. I also think that because we play the teams in front of us in the nl east our future is in our hands. If the mets keep hitting they could climb right up those standings.

Be day at a time , as they say

@Doubleday  Dice K won't go to the pen until Niese returns from the DL as that is who Gee is replacing in the rotation. And that's if someone else isn't hurt by then as we just saw happen with Niese

He's an additional lefty in the pen.

@ken1010  Sadly, it might not take 90 wins to win the division this year. 90 for the 2nd wildcard, sure. But this is truly the NL Least.
