Game Recap: Rockies 10 – Mets 3

Zack Wheeler surrendered seven runs in just four innings as the Rockies beat the Mets 10-3 on Friday night. >> See the full recap and boxscore at SNY.tv

Need to Know: Wheeler gave up six earned runs, allowed seven hits and walked two in his four innings of work. He struck out just one. It was his worst start in the majors.

Carlos Torres struggled in his second inning of work, giving up three earned runs, including a solo home run by Charlie Blackmon.

The Mets got on the board first, with Juan Lagares leading off the game with a double and later scoring on a wild pitch. Lagares later singled for his second two-hit game since coming off the disabled list.

Curtis Granderson hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning, his second homer of the season. Chris Young scored on the homer, walking to lead off the inning.

David Wright also picked up two hits.

What’s Next: The Mets and Rockies play again on Saturday, an 8:10 p.m. start.

Why was Torres pitching at all, let alone 2 innings? If the team has any chance of being decent this year, why risk overworking Torres? His arm will be falling off by July.

Some of you people are ridiculous. Wheeler isn't good? WHAT? The Rockies are averaging 7.4 runs per game at home. that's ridiculous. It's hard to beat any team when they score almost 8 runs in a game.

When the Mets win: "It's a long season, don't get excited ."

When the Mets lose: "Everybody run! The sky is falling! We suck! They will never win again. Our pitching is awful, our manager sucks, our GM sucks.., "

Remember when Wheeler was supposed to have better stuff than Harvey? Yeah, me neither....

Bright spot:  Wilmer Flores was back in the line-up a SS in Las Vegas.  Batting 3rd, he went 4-5 with 2 HRs, raising his BA to .289.

do you think tc should continue keeping a lefty righty  lineup

Well Sandy says they can make trades to improve this team.. then he should prove it..time will tell.

Hey, Cerrone, why don't you put up another one of your great polls-this time, ask if the Mets will win 60 games.

Pitchers have to be perfect or this weak-hitting team will likely lose--hey, they couldn't get to a guy with a 5 ERA

And Wheeler is just OK--he'll end up frustrating the fans far more than pleasing them in his career --can we just agree on that

Hopefully Grandy isn't hitting .230 with 5 hrs at the all star break.

Win the next 2 and all is well

This might be Generation K again...Remember that Cy Young winner Bill Pulsipher?

Wheeler has good stuff but I don't see another Harvey here..maybe at his best a 14- game winner 200 innings 150 k's tops. with a 3 and a half ERA.

That's it, last game we lose on this road trip until we play the Dodgers

I was at the game and it was pathetic to watch.

@Chris O'Neill Some of us think they suck, even when then win. Look at that team...you have to being some serious hallucinogens to think they are good.

I don't see him making any progress in his second year. One decent start out of every 2 or 3 won't cut it with this lineup.

@rodd Well Satin has stunk this year so they should either call up another RH platoon option at 1B or just let Duda play

@TheJMan  It would be nice if d'Arnaud could call a decent game.  That was terrible tonite. But you're right, Wheeler has no idea of how to pitch, or set up pitches, at this stage. I would have Recker catch every one of his starts because he needs a catcher that takes control.

@TheJMan Wheeler might end up in the pen in the not too distant future with the amount of young starting pitching the Mets have.

Bob Giacalone

@TheJMan He might get better, if they get rid of those goofy morons--Collins and Warthen

I'll take .230 at this point. He has to get Hot to get there.

Bob Giacalone

@Joe Wenzel Warthen should be fired, along with Collins. They're awful, but they suit the team--all awful.

No doubt the Mets are trying to send some messages not just on email but through their broadcast. Trying to keep the faith.

@Bob Giacalone I think we will have better luck with pitching this time...but what good is young pitching if you have no offense?

@Albert E LewisIt was an awful game to watch live...you could hear the weak hits against that weak Rockies pitcher De La Rosa

@Albert E Lewis @Bob GiacaloneHe's not...Granderson was a bad signing. I said so when it happened His bat speed may be gone. When he hit that shot tonight, I was on the first base side and I would have bet it was foul...I have no hope for that guy.

Anyone should replace Tejada; if that anyone is Flores, so be it.

Albert E Lewis

@Bob Giacalone @Albert E Lewis Well if he hits .230 with 20 hrs and 70 rbis I consider him a failure here.Lucas Duda can probably do that.

Bob Giacalone
Bob Giacalone

@Albert E Lewis I figured 25 if he could hit. But his numbers have been dropping over the past three years. It's a bad sign.

Albert E Lewis
Albert E Lewis

@90wins @Bob Giacalone @eavdr10 My hopes for Grandy was maybe .250 with 25-27 hrs and 80 rbis at least! but it doesn't look that way right now...I don't think anyone expected 40 hrs  here with the Mets.
