Did anyone listen to TC's press conference after the game?  The man is totally incompetant and should be sent away; Instead of evaluating Mejia before sending him to the mound, he espoused that his breaking balls were "tumbly".  Where did that come from?  His pitches were hanging over the plate begging to be hit.  That brings up leaving Wheeler in after he walked two and had thrown almost 100 pitches, most of which were hanging.  Seemed like time to take him out but true to TC's philosophy, keep him in till the end of the inning.  And finally, why do these pitchers always complain of soreness and injury "after" they've give up tying and/or winning runs?  It's time for Alderson and Collins to find different professions.

There were a few positives in yesterday's fiasco. One, Matt den Dekker had a nice re-entry into the bigs with a couple hits (plus at least a 2-rbi double stolen on a great play). He is clearly an upgrade on defense, and based on how he played in Vegas and yesterday's performance, he should be an upgrade offensively, too. Yes, I know it's a ridiculously small sample size, but I am very happy he's going to get the chance to show he belongs here.

Another bright spot--Travis D'Arnaud continues to show that he has turned the corner at the plate. He has always been a good catcher, and now he looks like he is becoming the kind of hitter everyone expected he would be.

And, finally, Lucas Duda hit his 21st homer. Did anyone think he would shine like this when Davis was traded away? He looks like he may hit 30 homers/yr.

Flores will have to hit a whole lot better than .230 with 1HR in 113 AB to justify his defense. Maybe he will, but he wont make up for what he costs in defense without hitting .290 with power. He really either belongs at 2nd or 3rd and only if he hits.

People you need to get use to these type games. I left the house when we were up 6-1. I listen to the finish on the radio. we have a young team and they're going to blow games like this. it's nobody's fault. Flores is gonna blow some plays he's not a natural SS but we're all tired of Tejada. the back of the pen has been great since about June they're allowed to have a bad day. We're not in a pennant race I'd rather blow a game and learn something about my team now then down the stretch next year in middle of race. Everyone needs to relax and enjoy watching the youth movement. The good the bad and the ugly.

Citi field would be buzzing for a good while if the Mets brought Backman and Viola up to finish the year... As for Flores, you can expect him to screw up more games in the field than Tejada, but you can also expect him to contribute in many more games with his bat...Yesterday was ONLY his forth game in a row starting...RELAX...time will solve this

Collins is the worst manager in mlb.hE LEAVES PITCHERS IN WAY TOO LONG WHEN THEY ARE not EFFECTIVE

and have a high pitch count.See Wheeler and Black today.

He played C.Young constantly and EY is pretty bad too.

The other day he replaced Lageres in CF.That is a no no.

I know it's not relevant, but maybe matt reynolds should get a shot at shortstop. He's hitting .337 in AAA.

Flores had a bad play at SS it happens, but walking a guy intentionally on 3-2 is crazy.  To me this one is on Terry.

Pitching was the problem tonight, not Flores, Wheeler in a couple of batters to many, Black did not have it and should not have pitched to Utley and Mejia has not been right for a week+, obviously is dealing with an injury and TC comment downplaying the injury and that he might hit a wall was another example of his total disconnect to reality. Late inning close game defensive changes are made by good Mgrs not to condemn those being taken out but to protect your lead, Tejada is a better defender but can't hit, Flores is in for offense, with the lead late, obvious defense change is bringing in Tejada not leaving Flores in to prove he is not the best defensive choice, TC is not the right guy to lead this team now or in 2015 and beyond and hopefully SA makes the right move in regards to this crucial piece to the future success of this team. Nice start for denDekker, please don't jack this kid around by putting Cambell in left against Lefty, let him play everyday, .275/.375 line against lefty in AAA, Duda .165 against lefty, leave Campbell at 1st against lefty, it's been the most efficient position on team, don't mess with it.

Flores cost us game. 2 Outs,Batter going to 1st base & wide throw taking Duda off base. Black then lets up a hit & walk & 2 scored. Game would have ended as 6-4Mets. Flores made some bad plays also yesterday but we won.

TC kept pitchers in for one batter to long all day it seemed.A bad loss.Lets get back on track Monday.Plus good vibes DeGroms way.

Flores sucks at ss, makes another bad play in the field...Collins fault! You people make me embarrassed to say I'm a Mets fan.

TC cost us this one, guys. Putting in an injured closer. Why couldn't familia gotten another save chance?

So the offense shows up, and the pitchers don't.  Get it in synch, guys.

Just one very simple question.

How do you use a pitcher to close a game, WHO HAS A HERNIA ?

Flores' arm from the hole is a legitimate concern. He showed some of his weaknesses in the field this weekend. That could wear very thin over the course of a season. Lets see what happens with him the rest of the way and hope for the best. For me, the best situation going forward is to have as solid a defensive player as possible at short. Look more to the other positions for offensive production.

Do people not realize that Collins isn't managing the starting 8 to win as much as to see what the young players can do?  He made it clear that he felt the team had a better chance of winning with Tejada at SS batting 8th than with Flores.  Now that Flores is going to play mostly every day he is not going to replace him in the late innings with Tejada.  What's the point of doing that?  They want t see Flores play SS and hit.  So, comments about Collins not making the right moves  but leaving Flores in make no sense.

The recent additions of Den Decker, Flores and Travis, and the subtraction of CY and ABREU have re-energized this team.  This line-up is solid, especially when WRIGHT begins to rack like he's accustomed to.  Only see positive things occurring for the remainder of the year...unless the injury bug hits us I see more wins the loses going forward.  The balls hit by the above mentioned trio leave the bat screaming...they are hitting the ball with authority; very good sign.

Richard Alicea

I like this line-up, the pitching cost the game, not the fielding or hitting...for those who would criticize FLORES, TEJADA or any other SS would have had difficulties getting to that ball and making an accurate throw to first...stop securitizing every play, this kid covers well enough to continue to play...his hitting alone will provide more positives than the few negatives on defense.  Again, I like this line up with Den Decker, Travis and DUDA now starting to hit.  Excitement is coming back to Citi Field... now we have a solid line up with very little if any weakness...I expect a good finish by this team.

Stop and think about it--- our team has problems scoring- well guess what?  every team is not scoring like they used to..hr totals are way down across baseball..  which means baseball is back to the way it has always been pre Selig steroid era....pitching, defense, speed.  Manufacturing runs.
We have the pitching, we have the outfield defense,  we have a little speed..  what we do not have is a manager who understands how to manufacture runs, use his pen and bench..
The quicker we get rid of collins the quicker we will become respectable on the field

Tejada doesn't make that play on Revere in the 7th either.  The momentum of that groundball is taking you towards right center field, requiring a throw across the body to get out a lightning fast Revere.  Tejada doesn't make that play.

No, I don't think Flores will prove to be a good defensive SS, but we know Tejada is not the answer for this organization going forward into next year.  We need to see if Flores will hit.

Collins is beginning to define awful decision making.  He has options, he doesn't take them. Wheeler stayed in too long, as did Black. Mejia has a hernia and is in pain...so have him close out a tight game. Collins needs to go. If it were one day, I'd have no problem with it...this is becoming a pattern.

gregf

Lots of rants on Collins below ... if I searched them all I am sure somebody has mentioned how the hell does Collins leave Black in to face Utley when he had Edgin ready, who not has been lights out, but was lights out again ... the two runs to get to 6-5 was the game-changer ...

@metaje Yes, yes, yes!  Teryy is incompetant and should be released.

@GaryKeithandRon Flores is getting his shot right now, but you can bet that Reynolds will get a look either in Sept or in spring training next year. Neither player is stellar defensively. Reynolds may hit for a better average, and Flores with better power.

Daniel Diffin
Daniel Diffin

@Gerard McGinnis Flores isn't really a short stop. He doesn't have the body-type for it. He'll never have the range, and if he works really, really hard, the best he'll ever become is adequate defensively.

wingo43

@Gerard McGinnis That's why having a SS who can at least play solid defense is so important especially when your team is founded on pitching.  In our case, young pitching.

and Mejia has a hernia !

@Rimo Chaloney It isnt about that, it's about we had a nice lead and Tejada is the best defensive option we have.  Does he suck? absolutely, but he is world's better than Flores in the field.

@metaje @dminches What's the point of doing both?  Either you play to win or you play to see who can play.  You know, you can lose a game in the 3rd inning too.  It isn't always in the 9th.

Richard Alicea
Richard Alicea

@dminches @Richard Alicea  we have one solid RBI guy in WRIGHT and three others that are going to drive in many runs going forward...so we have them, just give it some time...

Richard Alicea
Richard Alicea

@Jayson Love @Rimo Chaloney  TEJADA may or may not have made that play...poor pitching by VIC and MEJIA cost the game not a ball hit up the middle where FLORES had to throw on the move.

@Richard Alicea @Jayson Love @Rimo Chaloney  The other 29 managers would have bring Edgin to face Chase Utley in that moment; he was ready in the pen, waiting for the call; thas why we lost the game, because poor manager.
