Can not expect too much from this team when the "face of the franchise" has only 8 homers.  He consistently has long periods of time where he looks like he is lost at the plate.  When they talk about all the met records he is setting, its only because he has been a met so long.  There was a time for us old timers that Ed Kranepool was setting met records and he was far from a hall of famer.  Time for David to man up and management stop coddling him.  Team can't go far with a 4 hitter that just hits singles.

This team has no fire and no fight. Very hard to watch

The Mets could've made a bit of a statement in the series, but in the end, they're not in the Nats' league whatsoever. No pop from the offense, Dillon Gee has now become so hittable he barely makes it to pitching 5 innings. The Mets didn't even retaliate when Lagares was hit the other day, but ol' Terry Collins trying to say play the game the right way, blah blah blah...Wally would've gone after them the next day. Why does Sandy believe in this milquetoast of a manager? This is why he never got another job in the majors, until for some unforeseen reason Sandy awards this loser a shot. I must say that he got a lot more rope than Willie did. All he did was guide the team over .500 but Jeffy boy still wasn't happy.

Matt Reynolds should be called up now!

I'd take a weak hitting shortshop if it meant great defense. It would make a big difference.

I like Flores, and I am happy he is playing there, but he will probably not work out. He might need to put up all star SS numbers (he is capable, but best case scenario) just to overcome his defense shortcomings and maybe finish 2 WAR total.

If we could just find someone who could field like lagares in infield form, it would make a huge difference. We need power but it doesn't really make sense to look for at SS because it basically doesn't exist, we might as well just go for the a good fielder in FA or something

Honestly. I'd take a terrible hitter for a sensational defensive shortstop. Would make a big difference.

It's odd that Sandy picked Terry C. over Bob Melvin and Clint Hurdle. I think the genius was probably intimidated by the intelligence of Melvin and Hurdle so he settled for an old baseball loser. If only we fans could vote out this awful ownership.

some of you really make me laugh, some have actual ideas and some are basically throwing **** into a fan and hoping for febreze. we are not trading wright or grandy. please stop with your terrible ideas although ill admit to say ive had my share in the past. yes we suck, we dont need to hear it 24/7

I know 2014 was going to be the year!! (Wink, Wink) but how did the Marlins pass us in the rebuilding process? Fred, comment?, I would ask Jeff, but we learned from Steve Phillips that he is probably on the phone with Sandy as we read this blog. I think Sandy has done a good job with the farm system and missed on the mostly cheap quick fixes. Plan out 2015, but stop with the run differential thoughts. That's embarrassing for all who play or buy the tickets,

Jeez the Met offense is colder than someone who just did the ice bucket challenge.

I'm willing to face the fact that the Nationals just have a better team. Strasburg was really good tonight, and it just seems when the Mets hit balls hard, they are just short of homers, yet when the Nationals make contact on what look to be possible outs, they leave the yard. It's mind boggling, honestly.

@itieguy Thank God, there are some fans here who actually understand baseball and can look at the team and its players objectively, unlike some on here who are in love with Wright, a glorified singles hitter!! Another 0-3 tonight, holding that 8 HR, 56 RBI, and that outstanding 0.380 SLG line! How the hell he is the number 3 hitter, and the team captain!??

@Carlos Rivera Untrue. Women have told me they're very good in bed.

@Ricardo Ronda

Reality is sad...David is bailing out of the box and really looks like a scared hitter...The kids are hanging in there better than David...MDD lead off [like he did in AAA], Murphy, Granderson, Duda, Wright...

Good points. Terry has been managing terrible. The lack of a big hitter in this lineup is what's killing them. David has had a terrible year in regards to power. Hopefully that big hitter comes in 2015.

I agree,he is crushing it down there.Saw him in ST and even then he looked good.If we can build from within our system at SS it'll leave us,or at least it should leave us with money to acquire a real legit and proven power bat over the winter.

@Zac Tindall

You know when Flores hit his 12th or 13th AAA homerun and had a multi homerun game for Wally I thought why the heck don't they call him up...Well they did and sat him on the bench and allowed him to cool off and loose some confidence...Let Flores finish off the year and see if he gets hot again... Going into last nights game, Flores was hitting .283 or so during his starting test role...Reynolds should come up and play SS and Flores scoot over to 3rd base...LOL never happen...

Tovar is rehabbing in AA.Hope if Nats don't win it they blow up team.Mets can't beat them.Man the Mets have a lot of questions this offseason.

Chaz

Under normal circumstances I would agree but we cannot afford a weak hitting SS at the moment and Reynolds is a good fielder too. Flores I don't feel is the answer.

@Tormented Mets Fan problem is the mets would win 7 of next 8 and than they would lose like 5 or 6 in a row and be right back where they started, i've already faced it, the mets are not a good team who can play consistently good baseball.

They need a couple more bats (OF/SS) and to figure out who they want in their rotation starting in 2015... of course it starts with Harvey, Wheeler, DeGrom and Syndengarden and than you must figure out who stays from the rest and who can be used in trade for more help (Niese/Gee/Montero/Colon...). Mets are going to need a lefty so maybe they keep Niese.

josef

@borsh13 You are absolutely right! At this point, if you pick someone from any other teams' AAA affiliate who plays SS, he could outplay both Tejada and Flores! Playing either one at SS is like choosing between a lethal injection or a gas chamber when on death row!

He would be a good fit at short if you could get a lot more offense from the outfield then what you get noaw

There's nothing mind boggling about a team that has more power and knows how to hit the long ball. The Nats are a better team and have been for years.

josef

@Dana Smith Who hit the ball hard tonight on the Mets? Please enlighten us!! Perhaps the magical winds of wonderland blow in such a way at Citi Field that each time the Nats hit, it carried their balls over the fence, but those same magical winds always blow inward when the Mets bat, keeping the balls in yard! And maybe and just maybe, when David Wright bats, those magical winds become horrible tornados, keeping his balls hit stand still in mid air, hence his outstanding 8 HRs!!!

@saxon @Ricardo Ronda  I noticed that last night . Stands far away from the plate.  He should be moved way up in the batting order.

shawnp6986

I'm really hoping Matz down on the farm can keep showing the FO that he will be ready sooner than later,he has plus plus stuff and can surely see him taking over as our lefty in the rotation if we move Niese. I do like Niese,but I do not love how he gets rattled so easy and seamlessly falls apart in innings he needs to shut the door on.If he finishes strong I could see us maybe moving him with the young stud Matz waiting in the wings.

We will see,going to be an interesting winter for sure.

Idiotic. The Marlins have a $45M payroll this year and only signed one FA for a 2 year $14M contract, who has basically sucked the whole year...but of course, if it is a Met fan, it must be about the money and how poor the Wilpons are. I don't expect deep research from the Children of the Blog, but I mean good grief, can you avoid making such silly and disproved posts?

 Flores had a hit in five straight games going into tonight. What he has not done yet is hit for power. Only been a week though. Gotta to give it a little time.
