Was hoping against hope that this team still had some sort of wild card run in it. They still might get to .500 but that's an empty victory at best. Can't but think that if Sandy had managed to sign Nelson Cruz (or ANY power bat) the team would be in far better shape. I just have no confidence in the guy and his management team's ability to identify players that can actually help this squad. Way too early to make any judgements about den Dekker but you gotta wonder how the season would have turned-out if he were out there every day.

if the Mets plan on turning the corner next year, they better learn to beat Washington. Otherwise we're gonna put everything on the line for a few one game playoffs.

I gotta disagree with this...

If Wilmer finishes with his current .280 "starter stat" with some rbi's hitting in the 8 hole the Mets have a good problem...den Deckker is replaceable but doing just fine as a starter. Unless they can sign Nelson Cruz for a couple of years, I don't know that Alderson is really concerned about saving face...

No matter how good wilmer does I think we still need to sign the best shortstop possible or best left fielder possible both den decker and flores can't start. They need to make an addition to save face.

I never wanted Tulo or Cargo on this team...Way to expensive, injuries and  bloated Coor's numbers. You are right, den Dekker looks good and Flores is hitting. The Mets need David Wright to be David Wright and that would solve one of two big bats they are lacking. Granderson had a great month and a half but is just not cutting it in my opinion. I just don't see the Mets making any big changes this winter with this team because of guys like Brandon Nimmo, Dilson Herrera, Reynolds, LJ Mazzilli and Conforto coming... I think they are sitting tight and taking their lumps for now...

Not that I ever thought they'd get Tulo or even wanted them to but does anyone really think they should get him now? Hip surgery added to all his leg problems over the last 5 years? No thank you!

den Dekker is our version of Chase Utley. He looks like a good player. With that said where can the Mets improve now. If he hits the way he hits there's no need to fill in at Lf anymore. The Granderson signing is and has looked terrible from the 2nd week of the season. And theres no way mets will bring in a guy to replace him, even though they should. So lastly, will a significant upgrade at SS be enough for this team. Idk anymore, im completely lost now. And to add to it Flores is hitting. In the end, I bet if Flores and den Dekker would've been in there all year we'd be in the hunt. Anyhow, it would've been a nice comeback if mdd scored, I haven't seen such excitement in Mets ballpark since Reyes. Damn!

News u guys would be interested in....

MLB.com's Thomas Harding said Carlos Gonzalez' patella tendon damage "has increased slightly."That development was discovered after CarGo visited Dr. Thomas Hackett on Wednesday. The outfielder, the team and doctors will meet Thursday to discuss what that might mean for Gonzalez' outlook the rest of the way, but it's obviously not good. At this point, the Rockies might be best-served to shut him down for the rest of the season in hopes of having him back and healthy for 2015.

Troy Tulowitzki will undergo season-ending surgery to repair the labrum in his left hip.Tulo visited an orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday with the fear that his labrum might be involved, and that appears to be the case. It's a disappointing development for the potential NL MVP. Tulowitzki's season ends with the shortstop hitting .340/.432/.603 with 21 home runs and 52 RBI.

Please tell me Lagares and TDA are starting tomorrow. I'm going to the game and, at this point, they are the reason I will be paying attention.

Kind of shocked that no one is talking about Zimmerman hitting Legares. I watched the game at a bar with no sound, but it seemed obvious that that punk beaned Legares on purpose. I was sure we'd get payback. But nothing. Maybe I missed something but from where I'm sitting the Mets look like a bunch of cowards. Zim walked off the field looking like an arrogant P.O.S. that needed to be put in his place. But the Mets did nothing. What's new? As usual, boys playing vs men. Would be nice to root for a team with balls and a backbone some time in the near future.

The year before mandatory testing was mandated Wright hit 29 HRS at Citi before they moved the fences in, hmm.

Anyone think Tim Teufel could be a good MLB manager for the Mets?

Kyle Suta
Kyle Suta

If they can just get avg production from SS like 275 avg 350obp and LF they can be a good team. Travis is gonna be a better next year probly 265 18 75. Then you have Duda and Murphy who are gonna produce. Wright will bounce back and I think grandy will improve.

The pitching will be great we just need to get them and keep them healthy.

Mau Agudelo
Mau Agudelo

Terry and Sandy are coming back next year and they have never plated a winning team...accountability. And please don't give me this prospect nonsense because Harvey and degrom were Omar's and none of the others except for wheeler has really made a name for themselves in the majors

rodd

i like den decker, i love d'arnaud, he's gonna b a homerun hitter you wait, duda, murphy and if wright can show power will have a great  team lagares i feel his hitting not certain, flores too not sure yet. granderson, is out in my opinion.

@Muhammad Qureshi I would hold off on the Utley comparisons for now, but I am very impressed with MdD 2.0.  Nice compact swing, which has obviously helped him cut back on the strikeouts, and he hits BB's.  Let him keep LF for the rest of the season before we go shopping.

gattsu

@beerfinger I'm not sure if it was on purpose, but retaliation was absolutely necessary after that. JLAG has already been plunked 3 times (or twice, not sure) by the Nats in the past 2 weeks and at that point you need to stand up for your young GG CF. Terry should be ashamed of himself for failing to call for someone to get drilled. Hopefully we face Zimmerman again in the next series so he can get plunked.

thecyclone
thecyclone

@beerfinger There lies the pitching's one true problem. They dont know when to buzz a hitter. Utley sits in the batters box very comfortable and hits the crap out of them. No one has the cahones to knock him down, make him uncomfortable. Same as LaRoche and several other hitters around the league. As Ron says you have to own the inside of the plate, you can't be afraid to come inside.

And his HR numbers went down after moving to Citifield which no one can deny negates his natural power zone. And he's had a stress fracture in his back, hamstring tear on what is his back leg, been hit in the head twice, and now has something wrong with his shoulder. Not saying these are excuses but there sure are a lot if reasons other than juicing that could have, might have and most likely did contribute to his power decrease. Not to mention that power has been going down across game during this same time

golsf

Mandatory testing for steroids in the MLB started in the spring of 2004, Wright's rookie season. You saying he was juicing? Home runs were always an incidental part of his game. He's been more of a gap power guy.

Kyle Suta
Kyle Suta

We will never know unless he manages but the mets need a guy like Wally.

metsbb76
metsbb76

@Kyle Suta I think Travis can hit more than 18 next year. He's hit 7 homers since returning from the minors, excellent power. If he can hit home runs at this pace (what he's done since the minors strint) for an entire season, you're talking 25 home runs.

Blanca Recinos
Blanca Recinos

Wright will continue to falter. He hit 29 HRS at Citi the before testing was mandated. That was before the fences were moved up to.

@Mau Agudelo But for some reason, everyone around here loves Sandy with the exception of a select few.

upstater

@Mau Agudelo   And they only got wheeler because minaya had the guts to sign beltran to the kind of deal that Alderson would *never* do, even if the wilpons did allow it.

Frank Monastra

@rodd would love to have Den Dekker everyday with Cambell playing vs lefties, only way i see that is if we find a take for Granderson, we need to add 2 bats, one in OF and 1 @ SS

Muhammad Qureshi
Muhammad Qureshi

He holds the bat like him, and he follows through like him. How do u not see any similarities.

Carlos Rivera

@Olerud42 @Jay Cross

and to think that he has more home runs than DWright !

beerfinger
beerfinger

@gattsu Tell you what: if it wasn't intentional, Zimmerman sure wasn't worried about expressing that sentiment in his mannerisms. He didn't give a flying falk how it looked. I kind of wish the Mets had someone on their team like that (besides Harvey, who they keep antagonizing). Again, boys playing versus men. Maybe Wright should spend less time plucking his eyebrows and remind Familia or Vic Black that they were born with Y chromosomes.

beerfinger
beerfinger

@thecyclone It's not just the pitchers. If there was any accountability on that team, the hitters would let the pitching staff know that's not acceptable. The problem is, top to bottom there is no accountability. Management is allowed to keep their jobs despite years of losing seasons, and that reflects on down to the team. That's why other teams like the Nats have no fear when they play the Mets. Because they know the Mets are a team filled with cowards. This never would have been acceptable in the 80's. In fact, back then the Mets would have been the aggressors. That team won a WS. This team is lucky to win 75 games.

4EverMets

@thecyclone @beerfinger  This has been going on forever!! Both Chipper and Burrell used to own the Mets and I NEVER saw them eat dirt. Sad part is that I have to watch Wright get brushed back in every AB with ZERO retaliation.

How about a platoon at manager :-)

Seriously though, I think Backman would be a train wreck as manager in New York...can't imagine him handling the media well.

Pretty much all I said is likely to happen.

They can add jed Lowrie to play SS and have jonny Gomes or Willingham platoon with den Dekker and they will have avg production

Remember, Beltran only signed because they shelled out for four years of Pedro Martinez...Beltran signing with the Mets was pivotal...best CF in their history....graceful player...speed, power, effortless defense...glided to balls no one else could touch.

@Muhammad Qureshi  Where are the homeruns ? The guy is 27 years old . If he's so good why did it take so long to get up here ? Utley he's not  4th outfielder at best .

You're probably right about Backman and the media but terry is too loose. These whimps need someone to put them in their place.

@golsf  true enough. A good FA will not sign with this team unless the money is way better than other offers.
