Game recap: Mets 6, Phillies 5

Result: The Phillies came within one run in the top of the ninth, but it was not enough. The Mets topped the visiting team, 6-5, to take the series victory on Sunday afternoon in Flushing.

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets

Need to know: The Mets’ bats were alive in Sunday’s series win over the Phillies. Anthony Recker‘s sixth-inning home run sent in three runs to give New York the lead. Matt den Dekker, David Wright and Dilson Herrera also recorded RBI for the home team. Dillon Gee earned the win on the mound, allowing seven hits and three runs over six innings. Ryan Howard led the offense for the Phillies with two RBI, including a solo homer. Grady Sizemore’s ninth-inning single put Philadelphia within one run of New York, but their rally fell short.

Game ball: Recker’s sixth-inning home run helped push the Mets ahead with the 5-2 lead over the Phillies.

As "CK" mentions below, Flores gets 3 hits and doesn't even get his name mentioned...Come on Matt... Only Met to have 3 hits...Not bad for Flores after being bumped up to the 5 hole...worthy of "Flores had 3 hits"...

Come back Murphy. Get Asian massage on calf with happy ending.

Am I the only one who thinks niewenhuis is worthy of more playing time. Campbell should finish year at third and wright needs to go into hibernation until next year. Hope its shoulder and not the beginning of his inevitable decline.

Today we got two hits from our right fielder. When is the last time that happened?

Next up -- Mets sweep Marlins & compete for 3rd place!

Got to keep positive, right?

Another year, another season in the toilet. They need to boot the entire management team, Better yet, the Wilpons should sell.

Send wright and the Yankee down to Florida for a vacation. We're not going to win anything anyway. Let the kids play

For some reason, I think Granderson should sit out once or twice a week.

At this point who really gives a sh-t?

I have been a met fan for 45 yrs...I want to see these kids play.  I want the mets to keep the same line up as todays game for the rest of the season.  I don't need to see Curtis gradderson  or eric young put darnaud in and keep this team for the rest of the year.  give these kids 30 days and who knows

I'm not a big fan of Wilmer's but i think his performance today warranted at least a mention in the wrap

I'd like to say it feels good to beat the Phils, but...it's much ado about nothing.  They beat a worse team for the right to stay out of the cellar on August 31st.  They've beat up on the Phils all season.  I'm not impressed with this series win.

I live in south Florida and only can name one marlin. We as a city collectively yawn about them.

@qball expected more but Duda, D'Arnaud & Lagares plus d'Grom are promising. Ditto some relievers and one or two others, probably (Wheeler had an overall promising year).

"toilet" is a bit excessive

Give them 30 days they'll score 35 runs and go 11-19

@Fred Williams I do agree about just running the kids out there and let the chips fall as they may but Granderson would get paid 2.15 million dollars just to ride the bench and i can't see them absorbing that cost.

@thecasuaLGM @Fred Williams  his year is done let him start fresh next year these kids could start to generate some buzz I don't need to see Curtis try and get his BA over 220

@BerryBeltran Should I expect him to put a spin on his epically incompetent off-season FA acquisitions when talking about this winter? Honestly I can't wait to be annoyed with whatever inconsequential moves are made and billed as savvy to the fans. It's just the Lawyer in him I guess. He gets great returns in trades because he has trained his whole adult life in the art of screwing someone over to their face. When he signs FA's he falls victim to Agent's who know a desperate man when they see one

thecasuaLGM
thecasuaLGM

@Fred Williams @thecasuaLGM I'd rather see them shut down Wright. No one wants to say what is actually wrong with him but his bat is languishing in the 3 hole. He's swinging at bad pitches, not getting around on the ball, and in the middle of an unprecedented power outage...never mind HRs, the line drives have disappeared as well. Get him right

Agreed but to be fair why would any FA want to come here? Reportedly we got Granderson and Colon because we were the only team to add an extra year to both. And obviously blew CY out of the water in just money.

This strikes me as similar to when Omar had to overpay in money and years to get Pedro. Until they get this franchise turned around Sandy is going to have to overpay.

Problem is he's done it on the wrong people and the Wilpons don't have the resources to supplement it
