...battling and then winning the war is good...dont know why people are talking about trading murphy...hes the one guy on this team i would like to have up with the game on the  line...trade a certain third baseman if we can get anything good for him...i know this is borderline sacrilege

' but the guy is overrated...

I swear that whoever writes the "Game-recap" doesn't watch the game and just looks at the box-score. Wheeler did not dominate, he "battled."

Clearly you are looking at the box score and didn't actually watch the game. Wheeler was far from dominant.

I certainly wouldn't call it dominant..lucky perhaps, backed up w/ good defensive plays, but lucky!

That was the worst/best performance I've seen.  It actually was a great game for Wheeler since he clearly did not have his best stuff tonight.  In the past we have seen that usually blow up in his face but last night he was able to battle through and have a pretty decent line.  I was on the edge of my seat all night and it was a very weird game but it was fun to watch.

Were you watching the same game I was last night?  Wheeler was not dominating.  In fact, if not for an errant ground ball hitting the Nats runner on the leg, he may have been out of the game in the third inning.  Wheeler was erratic and should have been pulled after the sixth inning.  He had a 33 pitch inning, walked the bases loaded and was fortunate to have made it through.  Last night was one of those occasions when it was better for Wheeler to be lucky than good.

Check out the article in the daily news about Mets pitching. They need to turn one or two of these arms into a impact game changing hitter. It seems with Matz flying through the system Niese may be on the block in the offseason.

How bout that Murphy?

Some folks were ready to throw him under the bus.... he's my favorite Met!

hmm...one throw and you think Campbell's the man? He didn't hit the ball at all...had two strikeouts  No. he's a lot like Mike Baxter was last year.  He's not the guy to jump ahead of Kirk or even den decker. And of the three...Kirk wins out due to his power.

Cambell proved he needs to be the everyday LF with that throw.

We took the opener!!  Here we go!  The start of a big time win streak.

LGM!!  LGM!!!  That. Is. Sarcasm!  That.  Is.  Sarcasm!

Humor is how I survive being a Mets fan.

Legares better win a GG or Best Fielder Award or whatever they call it....he is so fun and exciting to watch play D.  I would like to see DenDekker come up and play left field from now till the end of the year with C.Young getting the axe,  Flores needs to play SS from now till the end of the season aswell.

I missed the game...who won? Did Wheeler win or dominate? was Lagares on Sportscenter? Is it bad that we won, if we won, or is it good? Will we win tomorrow or lose because Neise is pitching? Can someone guarantee the result for me? Insert the rest of my sarcasm based on what I just read right here_______

I love the way wheeler is developing. I believe he is going to find the next level in his progression. He still throws too many pitches to get outs. Hopefully he can become more efficient. This kid is real good and he gets list with whatvDeGrom is doing and what Havey did before he got hurt.

Nice pitching tonight by Montero and Pill. Future looking bright(er)

@MildredMets Did you want to trade him last year when he was posting a .900 OPS and nearly a 6 WAR?  Because if you were inclined to trade him, you should have advocated it when he was playing well- not when he's having his worst season since he played with a stress fracture in his back.  And I don't think its a coincidence that his two worst years included a stress fracture and shoulder injury that required a cortisone injection.

@MildredMets A ten-year veteran with a lifetime BA over .300 is overrated?  You sir are a joke!

No trades of our young pitching! Spend money! Sign Nelson Cruz and one of these recent Cuba defectors! Trade Murphy ! We have a ton of middle infield prospects, like Flores, Herrera, and the current AAA SS.

mike23

@sell lets not get carried away by one throw, it was a nice play but Campbell isn't really a starter in MLB, he's a decent player maybe for the bench but the fact that Campbell is brought up truly shows how much the mets need another bad for the outfield

... out of CY, Campbell, Kirk even den decker, mets have no legit outfielder. Hopefully sandy fixes I would say RF because Grandy's arm is best suited for LF and figures out how to fix SS so 2015 is a much more fun/winning..playoffs and beyond season.

Who cares? We need offense. Being Tejada in as a defensive replacement once we have lead:

@rock44 Love it when people just throw out familiar names as trade targets.  I take it you haven't bothered checking how Nelson Cruz has played since the first two months of the season?

chrislex

Nelson Cruz would be Jason Bay without the defense if he played at Citifield.

You like the idea od den dekker. Not like he has hit in the majors.

BronsonSNY

@mike23 @sell He's not an MLB starter, but still has a great average while seeing minimal time. He is your best hitter to date on this team. Give him the next two starts and he'll pick up again.

You throw like that and hit in the clutch and you (soup) can play on my team

Michael Scarn
Michael Scarn

@wingo43 @Michael Scarn I'm fine with that tho, I like Kirk and hope he can be atleast a successful 4th outfielder,  I think he fills a couple of roles, 1. Left hander off the bench with power  2. Late inning outfield defense at all 3 outfield spots  3. Pinch runner - he has decent speed

Michael Frias
Michael Frias

@mrgee  Exactly.  I read the comments simply to bring me down whenever I'm in a good mood.  Nothing will ever be good enough.

Imagine if this site was around in 86.  People would be all "I'm glad we're champs, but we should've lost in 6, and the pitching wasn't all that great. Srtaw batted .208!, Dwight's ERA was 8.00!  We won it all, but we still suck!"

wingo43
wingo43

@rock44 Speaking of offense, getting some production out of LF, RF and 3B would be a plus.

But you'd rather blame Tejada?  LOL

John Sickvery

@rock44 You need a good SS to back up a good pitcher. Flores may be good at hitting, but SS is not where he can play.

lindro88
lindro88

What's the difference? According to you they are never going to improve this team anyway. What if Flores can hit a little. Just means they'll sell him to us as the next Tulo. Right?

Bob Higgins
Bob Higgins

@rico  What is this love affair with Dekker ?  Good defense in the outfield  but didn't hit a lick on the big club !

chrislex
chrislex

@Michael Frias I couldn't agree with you more. When we do win we're gonna have the self-haters walking around saying: "what does it matter? We haven't won 27 times."

rock44
rock44

Now you've got it. Good point!

They probably don't want to play him because he will put up good offensive numbers and they will have to pay him more when his arbitration eligible.

lindro88
lindro88

Probably not. My point is Fred Wilpon can't afford to spend 100m on his team. Hopefully one day soon he will. Losing games isn't going to make him spend money he doesn't have. Flores isn't playing because Collins and I'd assume Sandy, don't think he's a SS

rock44
rock44

Maybe it will force him to sell. I give up. If you all are satisfied with this organization, then I will be too.

What a great win tonight! We are only 5 games under .500! Hooray!

lindro88
lindro88

I love people who think enjoying a win means being satisfied with the orginization. Why watch at all if you can't get anything out of it? Why waste 5 minutes on this site? They are what they are right now, and wether you or I like the payroll doesn't matter at all to Fred Wilpon. Tonight I watched a good looking young pitcher, CF, and I enjoyed it. Sorry if you think that means I'm ok with the team being mediocre.
