Call me insane but  my hope is that Puello can hit without steroids and become our left fielder.   The dude has a cannon for an arm, is an excellent outfielder, runs like a deer.  If he can hit like he did last yr before he got suspended,  we may have a jewel.  But i know i am dreamer so never mind me.

Lagares once again proves Sandy wrong!

"Mejia, who has not allowed a run since moving to the bullpen."

This is wrong - he gave up a run on Sunday.

BTW, props to Grandy for outstanding catch in 9th.

Beginnings of a pretty good bullpen happening here. Big spot for Black and he got it done. Mejia too, in two. If Edgin can be consistent and Familia continues to roll, I would say that's a start. May is over and the bell has rung.

Mejia gets the game ball? Nah, the defense saved his backside. I'd give it to Lagares or Tejada tonight.

If Tejada can keep playing like he played today, I have no problem moving Wilmer Flores over to 1B.

Lagares is 5 for 6 when up with a runner on third and less than two outs. Can we finally admit this guy can hit? Mejia got a little help from his friends but what's with the 6 out save? Was this a World Series game? Niese continues to be solid game in and game out. Maybe Black can contribute going forward. At least some positive signs tonight.

Juan Lagares with a huge hit to break the tie. Winning baseball is getting hits late in the game that put your team ahead.

Wright could take some lessons.....

Way to use our 21 year old flamethrower for two innings in a meaningless game so he's unavailable for two days. Another brilliant managerial move. Can we run a contest where a fan manages the team for a week? Maybe a poll "which past player would you like see run the team?" Something... Anything...

Niese had another great game.  He has to be a lock to represent NYM in the ASG.  I'm glad to see Mejia get a 2 inn save.  Hopefully, Vic Black can show consistency this time around.  He has nasty stuff.  If he is able to hone his pitches, he'll be an asset to the pen.  Good to see Tejada swinging the bat and also running wild on the base pads.  Lagares, what else we can say about him.  Good game kid.  Keep it up.

Game ball does NOT go to 50 cent. That's for sure.

Mets fans:  Any interest in Matt Kemp?  Dodgers owe him about $107Mil on that contract. If Magic and the boys are willing to eat about 60% of that contract, do you move 2 high end prospects to get him?

@George Komninakis I agree dude, would love to see him get a shot and see what he can do  for an "uninterrupted"amount of time-Dreamer  also

For some unknown reason Wally Backman refuses to give Puello the

necessary playing time he needs to develop.

@tw22 Edgin is probably the odd man out there. At least, maybe he has to be tested for more than one batter at a time.

@playjuan He pitched a two inning save. Let's pat him on the back and move on.

That's the thing, Tejada can't sustain this level of play on a regular mlb schedule. He usually comes back strong after time off, two to four games played and he'll be back to terrible Tejada.

Doubleday

@kefhrny17 He hasn't played anything but the OF, and the last thing we need is another CF.  If he can play 1B, I'd like to see it.

@mystere24 TC is obviously not comfortable with JL hitting a double from a pitch 8 inches out of the strike zone.

Brian Webster
Brian Webster

@mystere24  Mejia went 2 because Familia and Dice K were unavailable. Plus TC probably wouldn't want to pitch Mejia tomorrow with a day game after a night game regardless

theglider
theglider

They needed this game which is why Meija went two. Besides they didn't have many other right handed relievers tonight.

jimmyprbx
jimmyprbx

@mystere24  Thanks to that MORONIC BABIP stat which for some STUPID reason discredits players who hit soft singles/bloops.

This is the typical FAT BOY who never played ball mentality. They try to factor in some luck statistic...SMH

What Lagares proves is he is strong enough to hit a ball over the infield that drops in front of the outfielders. It exhibits strength in his swing. If he could ever get straight on his pulling, he would hit 15-20 homers. Young kid, however. Gonna take time

Brian Webster
Brian Webster

@Jonathan Beech  Who is the Mets 21yr old flamethrower? I assume you mean Mejia since he pitched 2 innings unless you're wrong about that too because Mejia is 24 and I wouldn't refer to him as a flamethrower. Basically every game for the Mets meaningless in the big picture but a game their up 2 in the 8th with Familia and Dice K unavailable is about as meaningful as your going to get to go 2 innings with Mejia. Especially with a day game tomorrow where TC would probably want to stay away from pitching Mejia whether he pitched 1 or 2 innings today anyway.

theglider
theglider

Except this game was not meaningless in any way. They had to win. Besides we don't know what other righty they had available.

Brian Webster
Brian Webster

@Muhammad Qureshi  I wouldn't call Niese a lock to be the Mets representative in the ASG. Right now I'd say Murph & Wright should both have better shots of making the team and I don't know if a team this bad would get more than 2 guys on the AS team

I still hope we see Flores playing more.

Brian Webster

@Steven Matregrano  You are mistaken. His last outing was not going well before being washed out by rain so technically that doesn't count. But even disregarding that he's alternated good and atrocious starts in May.

He's injury prone and we have about 11 outfielders right now. We need help at first and catcher.

@Brian Webster so we burn our young arm a season off TJ surgery when our season is already done?  For a win against the Pirates in late May?  That sounds like a plausible idea to you?  It sounds insane to me.

theglider

Don't get me wrong, I think Kemp would be a hood fit, but if we get him for prospects we wouldn't have anything to fill our other needs and they're more pressing right now.

metsbb76
metsbb76

@theglider We have a very good catcher prospect in the minors, Kevin Plawecki. Of course Travis d'Arnaud is also supposed to be a top prospect. You'd hope at least one of them would work out. Catcher should not be a need position for us.
