At this point I have more faith in Familia than in Mejia. Maybe Collins should think about making Familia the closer the rest of the way.

It's funny, when they win, there are 21 comments 2 hours after. When they lose, there are 821 comments 2 hours later. Look, a good start by Gee, the bullpen pitched well, they turned 4 double plays and play sound defense and they managed to string together enough hits in a row for a run and even got a homerun with a man on base. It was a game worth watching, and though the season is lost, it's nice to see your favorite team win a ballgame, at home, a one run game at that against a division rival.

As crazy as this sounds, the Mets are only 6 games out of the wild card, and if they sweep the Braves, they will be only 4 games out of wild card, depending of course what the Giants do.  But the point is that the Mets are still in this thing and with their pitching and pen it would not be completely unrealistic to think they have a run in them!

I think i'll start spelling Juan's name with 2 GGs...

So Mets have a legit GG contender in CF and 2 legit ROY candidates in Familia and deGrom....not bad for a lost season

See this team can win if u give wright and Murphy the day off.

Still would love to see this team get to 80 wins

Soup did a good job at third and stronger combo up the middle won this game....Wright and Murph Who?...lol

I haven't seen anything on familia's pitch limit this year? Has everyone forgotten that whenever the mets overuse a reliever they suck the next year? This guy is too good to waste on a year that no longer matters

Imagine if they had a bopper in left and a major league SS!

@Dana Smith no, metsblog is really bad at posting the recaps right after the game, usually they wait an hour. check the actual game thread for opinions

These are not must see games. I'd guess many people who post after a loss, didn't even watch the game. Or watched a few minutes. A loss gives them a reason to rant.

Don't get sucked in by a win. They'll probably lose the next two. There is no run coming. I am not a "boycott Citi Field" guy, but it's the same thing after every two game win streak. The Mets are not good enough to even finish .500. "If they sweep the Braves". That's just not gonna happen. They'll probably combine for 3 runs in the next two games. Every team wins a couple in a row now and then.

@George Komninakis actually it is completely unrealistic but you don't care. Drugs can do that to a person. How about actually getting to .500 after August 1st - something they haven't done since half the team was in high school.

@George Komninakis  Actually in the interest of factual accuracy, they're 7 out (8 games back in the loss column); and there are six teams ahead of them, including the leaders.

Still surprising that they're even that close though.  lol

Exactly. Unlike most lost seasons we actually have watched a bunch of young players turn into players. Familia, deGrom, d'Arnaud, Mejia, Duda, and Wheeler all have shown that they have real talent. It's all about what the FO does to add two players this offseason. That and the health of our ace.

Brandon Hillman

Hot finish by d'arnaud could put him in the running 12 jacks already at the catcher position is pretty good. Finish close to 20 with 250 average would put him in the running

He's pitched 3 times in the last 10 days.

No one knows what his workload is so the overuse crap needs to stop.

He's had a terrific season.  Hopefully he can stay healthy.

@lindro88 Yeah, dont get sucked into watching baseball when your favorite team wins. Dont do it.

Dude, what makes you even think the guy is on drugs?I think George is just trying to find a silver lining and something positive to hang his Mets hat on.

@Brandon Hillman IDK...it would be close.  Even though he's going backwards a little the last 6 weeks, Hamilton's got 37 XBHs and almost 50 SBs already.  If TDA can get to .250 and 20+ HRs...maybe.

Regardless, I LOVE d'Arnaud's turnaround.

Dana Smith

@rico He said he played well AT 3rd. Clearly the box score speaks for itself on his offense tonight. In your defense, the 0 for 4 including a K and GIDP.

@Mark Kohn It's funny, people see a positive thing and immediately think negative consequences.

Great game and you come here to whine. Sickness

Not what I said. I said don't start talking about making a run. When someone posts about the wild card race and includes the Mets it's rediculous. Nice win tonight. Take it for what it was

Tarheel11

@C.K. Dexter Haven @Brandon Hillman He's hit in something like 13 of his last 17 games. So I wouldn't say he's gone backwards at all. He had an 0-10 streak to start the month but since then he's been right on. That's what gives me more confidence that he is the real deal. He's hitting a nice .270 since coming back up and that has included down stretches but he's been able to keep those small. He appears to have got himself together.

@tierlifer @josef @Angelo Castelli

Folks that have never actually been injured while posting stupid comments will have no clue what a professional athlete has to go through when they are ailing. Sad. It seems as though all i read in the comments section here and in other blogs is so much hate towards the Captain and Sandy. It must get taxing carrying around that much negativity.
