That DP last night was a genuine thing of beauty. This was a game the team would have consistently lost in previous years. Timely hitting, pitching and defense. We'll excuse Chris Young for some Reyes-Pagan-like baserunning (against Yadier Molina no less). But you have to be worried about Wright's throwing issues. We've seen him battles these particular demons before.

Nice to see Travis getting some solid hits. Building off from his Sunday game. Keep it rolling.

Don't go crazy over Ike having success in Pittsburgh. The thing we have to remember is that he will not be doing that here with the Mets. So even if he bats .330 with 50 homers and 120 rbi's; we have to know that he would never do that in a Met uniform. So forget about him.

Very nice game, Ruben Tejada.  The kind of defense we once saw from you.  May this be a harbinger of things to come because there's no help in sight.

Toughest month on the schedule, win over a quality opponent, over .500, coming off a shut out, fans complain and mock the team. Unbelievable.  Time to view the positives.  Mejia is boss.  This guy is the real deal.  Pedro part 2.

Bullpen gets it done for the second straight day.  What is in Tejada's coffee? The play he made yesterday up the middle was insane (though we do need a real SS).  Clearly, things are not all bad in Flushing.

TDA with an RBI!

Mets are not looking to shabby. One thing I've noticed the past few games though is the abundantly clear absence of Lagares in CF. The Pitchers are pitching well right now, but with Lagares returning the ERAs, WHIPs,Win totals, Holds, and Saves will all increase. EYJ Granderson and C Young are all above average defendersm but there were many balls against the Braves that Lagares wouldve probably caught that Chris Young did not get. Lagares is key for this team because pitching is the strength, and Pitching needs defense. Excited to see if he can keep raking

to all you salty Mets fans we are not getting austin meadows.

Why on earth would the Pirates trade possibly the next mike trout(ceiling), for a guy who came over hitting .210

the guy is their 4th best prospect overall right now, but will become their 1st in a year guaranteed.

Were probably looking at Jacoby Jones,or Blake Taylor

These jerseys dishonor the troops. They're horrific. You've gotta come up with better camouflage prints than that...GEEZ..smh

Worse. Uniforms. Ever. Can we please just stick to the classics?

I hope Ike excels in Pittsburgh. He's a decent man and deserves a better season (and career) than he would have had in Queens.

I expect Ike will do well in Pittsburgh his first month and then see a big drop off in production.

If we get TDA and Grandy going, we can live with a light hitting SS. Spot on with the "no help in sight"

@Steven Matregrano Let's hope so. Right now he's pulling a Mark Teixeira--with less contact. It's hard to root against the guy as he seems to be a genuinely moral and charitable man. Peralta hardly looks like a world-beater right now but the guy has some power and does make the routine plays. Personally, I don't want Drew. You gotta wonder what his conversations with Scott Boras are like. He may very well end-up bidding a fond-farewell to $13M.

@Paul Garvin Kuhns  Totally agree with missing Lagares. There were at least 4 balls hit in the series with the Braves that Lagares, at least, gets in the vicinity of. On those balls CY was still on his way and could not make a play on it. IMO, Lagares has a shot at that Craig ground rule double last night, where Young was at least 15 feet from the ball when it landed on the warning track. No doubt a well hit ball, but Lagares makes all the other Met outfielders look mediocre.

@trevordunn Lets see who the Player to be named is before writing off that trade. Sandy has a habit of getting good prospects back.

@JimmyBX182 Vote GOP.  Send young men and women off to die in meaningless wars.  Ignore them when they come back wounded and/or mentally insane from trauma.

BUT HEY!  At least we put bumper stickers on our cars and wear camouflage to "honor" them....so....

William Truitt

@chasesimms  Agreed. Maybe once, twice a year with the camo to honor the troops. But every single Monday home game? Please spare us.

@Jerry Colfer Even if Ruben can get back to his 2011 and 2012 form, that'd be great.  In those years he graded out to be an average shortstop, which isn't bad, especially since he's making almost no money.

But, yes, file this under "no help in sight."  I bet if Ruben's batting .180 by the draft, Drew gets signed for 2 years, though.

@Steven Matregrano @helloboy  Tejada that we have seen for the last year and a half is NOT a real SS, he is a terrible defender and hitter, he was a real SS last night and was before that year and a half, if he can find himself maybe he becomes that again, but like Ike that window is closing.

Sean Matrai

@C.K. Dexter Haven @Sean Matrai  I said Ceiling, but whenever you trade for a player what is the first thing you look at( a prospects ceiling). Yes in reality he will probably not come too that point, but its important to look at a prospects potential.

also figure in that he was drafted in the top 10. Most top 10 draftees expect to play a significant role in the majors( Harvey,Wheeler, Miller, Cole, Harper, Strasburg etc). If not stardom.

Why would you trade somone with a incredibly high ceiling for a player who has a high ceiling, but along with a terrible track record.

Sean Matrai
Sean Matrai

@JimmyBX182 @Sean Matrai  @JimmyBX182 @Sean Matrai  thats not 100%  true. There are other "five tool" players in the MLB in recent years. "Carlos Beltran" to name 1.

Trout is more like a once in 5-10 year type player, closer to 10

Note I said ceiling, I didn't say he will become him. I just noted that being his ceiling

@chasesimms  Not to be political, but both parties send us into wars we don't need to be in.  Large number of Democrats voted for war just as much as Republicans.  So if you want to be honest, you have to blame both parties that over the past 40 years have got us into wars we should never have been in.

@chasesimmsWTF is this? Stick to baseball or you can always talk about how democrats increased healthcare cost so that it pushes troops on to obamacare..

"Administration officials told Congress that one goal of the increased fees is to force military retirees to reduce their involvement in Tricare and eventually opt out of the program in favor of alternatives established by the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare."

But again this is not a political blog its a Mets blog so this will be my first & last reply to some extremist stealth socialist posting, but I could not just let some fake concern for troops pass when its actually baseless agenda based slander.

@C.K. Dexter Haven @JamesI think it is clear - Tejada was not a "real, bona fide, Starting Shortstop[tm]" in 2013.  He was in 2011 and 2012.  If he returns to being a 2 WAR player, there's nothing to worry about at that position.

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@James   Definition of a "real SS" please....  Not attacking you, but i'm just curious what people are looking for from a middle infielder.  No doubt that 2013 was a wasted season for Tejada.  But his track record can't be relegated to JUST the 2013 season.  It's making me a little crazy that it seems no matter what Tejada or Murph do, it will not be good enough for most of you.

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@James  Agreed...unless there is yet another pitching prospect Sandy wants to take off them, no need to put Meadows on a list.  I guess since the Mets and Pirates have been doing this Ike dance for about 7 months, why a PTBNL? At this point the Mets should know the Bucs' targeted prospects as well as they know their own...no need for a PTBNL....unless it's a '13 draft pick.

James
James

@C.K. Dexter Haven @Sean Matrai  I just don't see any chance the Mets got a top 10 prospect for Ike, I am sure he got a good PTBNL, but not a kid like that.  Rumor is that the Mets have a list to pick from, if that is the case how could that list be Meadows and anyone else if everyone would pick Meadows.

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@Sean Matrai.."Why would you trade somone with a incredibly high ceiling for a player who has a high ceiling, but along with a terrible track record."

Because Ike's been there 4 days and helped them win 2 games already.  AND that track record includes a 30HR season.  Pittsburgh has already shown they'll have patience (ie Alvarez) with someone like Ike.  They can POTENTIALLY have a 65 HR/190 RBI corner infield.  Oh, and they also have some 27 yr old kid named McCutchen manning CF now.  Barring a move to a corner spot, there's a little redundancy there

zoddie

@Sean Matrai @JimmyBX182 25 years is about right.  Maybe Bonds was his last good comp, but even Bonds didn't become BARRY BONDS until he was 25 years old.

Beltran was a below average offensive player until he was 24.

To put it another way, Trout's worst year in his young career is better than the best year of Beltran's career.  And Beltran's a HOFer.  And Trout is 22 (younger than Cesar Puello, Lagares, and less than 1.5 years older than Brandon Nimmo).

Trout is closer to Mickey Mantle than Carlos Beltran.

If you favor either of these parties you already drank the kool-aid. We live in an oligarchy, soon to be fascist state run by corporations and their 1%. Until we have a revolution and fight those who love seeing us argue nonsense with each other rather than actually attack the oppressing elite, our country will continue to go backwards.

@Terry Jacoby Spoken like the punk who has never had a fight in his life. People who don't mind their business are the ones left with black and blues across their face. If this country would STAY OUT of foreign affairs, and take care of our own poverty issues overwhelming some of our greater cities, we might be on to something.

Terry Jacoby

@JimmyBX182 @chasesimms  I do agree with this. Put a fence around our country and have the statue of liberty start flipping the bird. The rest of the world can take care of themselves - for once. Why are we  the world's police? Too many good young people getting killed for ungrateful people. And when these countries have a disaster and need aid and assistance, they can go to someone else too for a change. Everyone rips the USA until they need the USA. Let's start worrying about OUR people...like the Wilpons (see how I brought that back to baseball).

@1harris1 @chasesimms@William TruittSo MLB signs off on these hideous, horrendous uniforms, and yet forbade the Mets from wearing NYPD, FDNY and PA caps on the 10th anniversary of 9/11?  Selig and Wilpon must go!
