Mets have arguably been the worst-hitting team in MLB since the All Star break (with some competition from the guys in the Bronx). Shows me that not only is Sandy not remotely interested in upgrading the offense but is also pressuring Collins to play Chris Young. What happened to the old 'meritocracy' boys? Eric Young gets on base three times the day before. Eric Campbell batting .320 in a team starved for offense. Yet we have to watch CY and Bobby Abreu post ever-diminishing numbers. Meet the new Mets, same as the old Mets.

The only way I'm trading for Tulo is if we swap David Wright one for one. No pitching prospects.

This board is perfect for this team.

It's ridiculous how poorly this team hits.   And why is CY still on this team?

this lineup is ATROCIOUS!!!! you can not win games like this. What the hell is wrong with Alderson and Wilpon? They are like the kids that get a 15% on a exam in school. whats wrong with you dudes? you got like 10 people who are hitting below .240 and like three people hitting .275. how is this team only 6 games under .500? this team should be dead last in the entire league. are you guys serious?

Can we not call it the game ball? People don't like it. How about, player of the game? Game Ball sounds like we're giving in to mediocrity when we give it to the other team

This was Terry Collins' 588th game as Mets manager.  That ties him with Yogi Berra for fifth most regular season games as Mets manager, behind only Davey Johnson, Bobby Valentine, Joe Torre and Gil Hodges.

Well the mets want to trade for Tulo or Cargo so some hope

It would not have made a difference as it turns out, but what the hell is Collins doing starting Chris Young against a righty with both Abreu and EY on the bench?

Rout is not the word I would use.  The Brewers Ran over Gee with a 10 ton truck and backed over him to make sure he was finished meanwhile the Mets were spinning their towels at Flores hit.  Don't worry fans.  Terry say "He likes the team  like it is right now". Proof enough for me that the man is senile!

Wow. Sandy's beloved run differential sure took a hit tonight.

Sometimes you just have to tip your cap on a well pitched game.

I'm not too upset by this one, pitching has rarely been a letdown this year. Blowouts occasionally happen. It's the close ones with lacking offense that drive me nuts.

Garza was very sharp, there's not much they can do when a guy pitches like that, NEXT!

Ugly game for mets and D. Gee. Time for the wilpons/sandy to go and get the mets some actual star type players who can be counted on nightly.. this team is just too inconsistent and just plain not good enough to win, they are what they are a team that will be around .500 all year possibly dropping 10+ under at some point..... need wilpons to step up!

Going to the game tomorrow, Mets need to play better than this garbage..

Damn that Lucas Duda sure can hit when the Mets are up or down by 9 runs!

This team has no offense...Sandy should be embarrassed at the average product he puts on the field day in and day out from a hitting perspective.  Regarding ticket sales, Sandy & the Mets players better step up and WALK THE WALK because until that happens, they can TALK all they want but Mets fans won't be WALKING through those ticket gates!  Ya Gotta Believe in Mets Fans being smart enough to call you out on your shiiit SANDYYYYYYYYYYYYY

@cleonsvan the rox have absolutely no need for wright when they have arenado manning third. you want tulo? give up an arm or two.

@cyrus  Since Murphy made the All star team, he has been awful. Murphy needs to understand he is no all-star. He was selected as a consolation prize.

@Tormented Mets Fan Oh man if we trade for Cargo and then sign Hanley Ramirez we will be.... oh wait I just remember  who owns the team

@birtelcom that tells me it's been a long rebuilding process.  Except for Torre all the other ones won something.

@Kyle Ely Tulo's injuries are a concern for me, with the mets luck the last six years that would be sort of a gamble. I like Cargo as well. Will be interesting to see if the mets actually make things happen or put on a show looking like their trying but come up empty.

Since it wouldn't make a difference, who cares?

@stage52 Yeah, spinning towels is bad enough, but when you're getting thumped and you're still spinning?

@Albert E Lewis ... or as some here would like to put it - Wilmer Flores was half our offense tonight.

... if we could just convince Lucas Duda that every at bat was meaningless in the 7th inning or later ...

cleonsvan

@Billy Suede  That was my point. I don't want Tulo. HIs stats away from Coors is ordinary and he is oft-injured. Never give up arms. You get offense through FA and the farm system.

Cargo wasn't tossed into the Santana trade. It was Humber, Mulvy, Guerra, and Carlos Gomez for Santana. Cargo was drafted by the A's and dealt to the Rockies for Matt Holiday. I think you're thinking of Carlos Gomez...

Yup: Berra, Davey, Valentine, and Hodges all took the Mets to the World Series.  Still amazing that Torre lasted as long as he did as Mets manager -- 5 losing seasons every one with a worse record than in any of the Mets' recent seasons.

@birtelcom Torre was the sacrificial lamb when Grant gutted the team. Anyone could see he would be a very good manager. They had no talent-like now.

Indeed, though Joe stayed on as a player  for less than three weeks after being hired as manager.  During that period, he put himself in games only twice, going 0 for 2 as a pinch-hitter, before deciding to retire as a player and concentrate on managing.  And now he's going into the Hall of Fame as a manager (though he was not far below HOF level as a player).
