Game recap: Braves 6 – Mets 1

Result: The Mets dropped their series finale to the Braves, 6-1, Thursday night at Citi Field.

Need to Know: The Mets managed just four hits against Mike Minor and Atlanta pitching. Minor, the Braves’ starter Thursday, had two hits of his own, scoring a run and driving in one, as well. Atlanta centerfielder Emilio Bonifacio had four hits and drove in two runs, and Ryan Doumit’s ninth-inning homer off Daisuke Matsuzaka broke the game open late.

Mets starter Jon Niese scattered nine hits and allowed just three runs in 7 1/3 innings but took the tough-luck loss, falling to 7-10.

Game ball: Minor helped his own cause, giving the Braves the lead with a second-inning RBI single then took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He wound up striking out five and surrendering just one run in seven-plus innings.

Anyone who roots for this team is a chump, including me.

this series underlines that with even a couple more players, the team could go pretty far -- they were in all three & could have won two ... but nothing new about this ... "almost there" was the sentiment for quite some time ... we are at least in a second round of it now over the last 20 years.

What the hell happened ?I had to turn the game off after the bottom of the 8 the ended,Travis hit that double and Campbell brought him in at which point it was 3-1.

I guess Dice-k came in and the Braves blew the doors off...Another pathetic loss and another series loss, when was the last time we won a series actually??Half game from the cellar, with the cellar team heading in to Citi..

At least Niese pitched pretty good if for any silver lining at all.

I think TC knows he's done.  Not much urgency on the field, which means it isn't coming from the manager.

David Wright  is an expert in hitting into double plays ! Do we really need to see Dice K  ?   Half game out of last place .  What a freaking joke !

Can't wait until the Mets sign another past their due date player to a 7 million dollar deal in the offseason.

After they won the first game someone posted that if we sweep this series we'll be 4 behind Atlanta. I wrote we'll likely score 3 total runs in the next two and lose them both. Bingo. This team is more predictable than the sun rising.

Many of those 22,000 are disguised as empty seats. That announced number is paid attendance, not people at the park. Many ticket holders don't show up and can't even give the tickets away.

The Mets are a huge disappointment once again! What else is new. I'm interested to know why people still pay to see them play at Citi. The attendance numbers still show 22,000 as of tonight's game. The only way to change this is by not going to the games.

@Joe Paulson Are they really that close when they can only muster 4 hits a game and have no power?  Good pitching can only take you so far.

I'll vouch for you on that, you did in fact say just that.Good call, unfortunately.

What would the Mets do with a guy like LaLoosh?  Put him on a pitch count, and instead of running him out there every 5 days for 7-8 innings, they would contact NASA to develop special capital "L's" for the back of his jersey.

@budgeteer a ticket sitting on stub hub waiting to be resold is still a ticket sold as far as the Mets are conceded

So am I.

We have become used to this. No one is reacting, booing their bad play. No Unknown Met Fans. This is what we can expect from them. I hate the greedy Wilpons. Keep the club at all costs and to hell with the fans.

Beautiful night, people like to socialize at a baseball game. No one is sitting, scorecard in hand, headphones on, sweating every pitch.

No. There is no such thing as "close" in 162 game baseball season. You win or you lose. This isn't High School Football

Unfortunately we've all seen the same series many times.
