Game Recap: Braves 5, Mets 4

Result: Daisuke Matsuzaka gave up five runs in five innings, and the Mets couldn’t muster enough offense as they fell to the Braves by the score of 5-4 on Tuesday night in Atlanta.

Need to Know: Christian Bethancourt gave the Braves a 1-0 lead with a two-out single in the second inning. After a long two-run home run by Curtis Granderson put the Mets on top 2-1 in the third, the Braves scored a run in the bottom half of the inning off Daisuke Matsuzaka to tie the game. Matsuzaka continued to struggle in the fourth, serving up run-scoring two-out hits to opposing pitcher Mike Minor and Andrelton Simmons as the Braves went ahead 5-2. A two-run home run by Daniel Murphy in the top of the fifth drew the Mets to within 5-4. Carlos Torres kept the Mets in the game with three no-hit innings, but the Mets never seriously threatened from the sixth inning on.

Game Ball: Split it between Granderson and Murphy, who each smacked two-run home runs for the Mets.

Sandy believes this is a .500 team and they are satisfied with the roster....everyone on the Mets should get a participation ribbon.

Stop making suggestions, fans. It is getting worse every year.

Terry has no say. Sandy is the mastermind in all this - roster, lineup, etc. Firing Terry is fine but changes need to start at the top.

Mets better get Yasmani Tomas when he's available.  He just retained an agent.  To raise money, maybe sell the Shea Bridge or Big Apple?

Mets lead the majors in 1-run losses. What does that tell you? Poor management and strategy on a consistent basis. Tying run at third w/one out. Tough RHP. Why not pinch-hit one of several lefties on the bunch. Sure, Abreu cannot pinch-hit to save his life but did you really believe CY was gonna deliver in the clutch? Insanity is defined as doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result. It must be clear to everyone now that TC is under orders to play CY. We all knew that breakout game was gonna keep him on the roster for another few months. Gary and Keith can quote all the stats they want but Dice-K came up small when it counted. Single to the opposing pitcher. Nice work. And, oh yeah, the towel thing has already worn-out its welcome.

The team had a 1/3 of the game to score a run after throwing the game away the day before.

Is this a way to save time to skip the need to blow the 5-5 tie later on?

They could be tarping off the upper deck after the All Star break.  Maybe they could design the tarp to look like a big white towel.

Keep running out the same lineup with no changes at all because thats really diing something. Collins is a joke I think its time for Bachman. The season is over

I was at the game last night and sat next to the Mets' dugout.  Their lack of energy and fight stems from an obvious lack of leadership.  There is none.  Pitiful.

W/Minors problems w/ Lefties, not sure why TC didn't put Ey or Kirk in line up, vs Chris young?

Fire Terry already , he is a lousy manager and a loser.

Remember what Sandy said...If we keep going out to the games and spending our money on the Wilpons, he might be able to upgrade the team.

Its only the beginning of July and this team and this season has already become a joke;  The Wilpon fools have done a real disservice to Met fans.

“We’ve just got to hang in there and can’t tuck our heads between our legs and feel bad for ourselves,” Collins said. So sick of the same quotes, every night!

Wilmer:  2-5 with 2 doubles and an RBI.  Batter 3rd, played 2B again.  Average now .314.  Sorry Wilmer haters, Flores hits when he plays regularly, at any level.

All I can say about Matsuzaka's last two starts is ... it is really nice to have a guy who wants to keep pitching in Queens.

Hey since we are already paying Bobby Bo can't we just have him suit up in left field. I'm sure he'll do better than Chris young

Where is Kirk Niuenhius. He was doing well, than sits for Ey and CY. Why we bring up guys in Vegas who were raking, start them twice, they do well, and then sit for a week in order to play .200 hitters? Terry does this to every young guy that come up.We are developing no one to play bad players who won't even be here next year. If CY, Tejada etc. are better in you dumb, idiotic brain, than you should give them multi year contracts.

Towel waving to act like we in the playoffs ...damn Wilpons suck

How a NY team has to play in Vegas is disgraceful. Noah crushed again. I think we can trade him and get Colin Cowgill back. I think we can use another OF.

To win at least once in a while, please sit CY and don-nou, instead play EY and recker..CY, don-nou are scoring chance killers..at least score some when you have a chance

Mets have no fight in them.  They are not motivated at all.  Its time for a change or they are going to lose 100 games like the 68 Mets.  what a joke this team is

Bill Donahue

Cohen and Keith today. Players come up. Their hot, they sit on the bench and go cold. They also asked why Kirk Nieuenheis is not playing. Ojeda said Mets need training on situational hitting. With man on 3rd, they are swinging for the fences instead of situational hitting to bring the runner in. Finally the questions are being asked.

@BigTrain What about the towel waiving after a grounder that squeaks through the infield?

Makes 0 sense why they aren't running Kirk or Campbell out there every day in left field at this point.

@Doubleday Its hard to hit when you eliminate the first pitch are down 0-1 and arent allowed to take what the pitcher gives you because you are hunting a cripple pitch.

@Eric Hack I'd like to see a little emotion when they're losing.  Or trashing the dugout after a bad outing, or Bob Geren slapping Terry's hat off his head after yet another terrible pitching change.   Yo Wally!  We need you!

You have the wrong NY team.  We don't make moves like that
