Game day at PSL: Jenrry Mejia throws a bullpen, drills, BP

It’s the first game day here in Port St. Lucie and things have a very different vibe to them. Players have been scattered around: some took BP on the main field, while minor leaguers and some of the pitchers — including today’s starter Shaun Marcum —  worked on the back fields on fielding drills. By now, those have wrapped up and everyone is in pre-game mode.

Earlier this morning, Jenrry Mejia threw a bullpen session in front of a contingent that included Dan Warthen. It seemed like Warthen was pleased, and  afterwards, Mejia told coaches on the back field that things went well.

Today, the buzz is all about Zack Wheeler, who will pitch after Marcum. Rival scouts are around, hoping to catch a glimpse. If the first real game action of the spring wasn’t enough to get excited about, overhearing some of the informal chats between scouts about Wheeler’s potential will do it.
