Mets to host cancer benefit for Shannon Forde

Matthew Cerrone , Lead Writer

Shannon Forde is a good friend, as well as Senior Director of Media Relations of the Mets and a mother of two adorable children. She was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer.

In 2006, when people were still very much skeptical of “bloggers,” back when I couldn’t get a single person on the phone to learn about press passes and arranging interviews, Shannon extended a helping hand and told me where to go. I’ve known her for many years now, she’s become a good friend, I will always be grateful for her guidance, and I hope she gets the best treatment and recovery.

The team will hold a benefit in Woodland Park, N.J. on November 1 to raise money for Shannon’s treatment. The benefit will include a dinner emceed by Ron Darling, and a meet-and-greet autograph session with Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, John Franco, Al Leiter, Ed Kranepool and Bob Ojeda.

Tickets for the dinner and autograph session can be purchased by going to HopeShinesForShannon.com.

Shannon is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and she has been instrumental in my ability to provide content on this site, be it at the ballpark, in Port St. Lucie during camp, or while following the Minor League teams. I’m saddened by her condition and I’m hoping to attend the fundraiser to support her cause. My thoughts go out to her and her family, who I’m happy to hear are optimistic about her treatment plan despite a long road ahead…
