San Diego Padres v Baltimore Orioles

Freddy Garcia to Braves on minors deal

Freddy Garcia will sign a minor-league deal with the Braves (Crasnick, Jan. 24).

The Mets had reportedly shown interest in Garcia to be a reliever and/or starting pitcher (Puma, Dec. 10Rubin, Jan 10).

Garcia posted a 1.65 ERA in six games (three starts) with the Braves in 2013.

Overall, he had a 4.37 ERA and 1.245 WHIP in 80 1/3 innings between the Orioles and Braves.

The Mets talked to a lot of agents about finding a guy for this role. For whatever reason, they ultimately settled on John Lannan, whom they inked to a minor-league deal last week. I’m sure there is still interest in guys like Daisuke Matsuzaka, assuming these players are willing to accept a minor-league deal and compete in Spring Training – whether for the back of the rotation, the bullpen or Triple-A pitching depth.

This is a MAJOR relief. I did not want to see this guy on the roster in 2014. Now I only have to worry about Sandy making an offer to Carlos Silva. Let's see what the kids can do in Spring Training and go from there.

I am more upset the organization can't draft well. Over the past couple of years the prospects we have drafted have STUNK with the harvey exception. Wheeler, Travis and Noah are from other organizations!

Freddy Garcia isn't good enough to warrant a full post. There are plenty of pitchers similar to him available.

Just STOP with the articles on whom the Mets didn't sign.  Just STOP it.

Cant wait for the post that reads

"Did the Mets even make an offer for Garcia"?

Since that is what this team has become. Did we? As opposed to "We did"
