“Someone who knows the [Jose Reyes] group well said to me, ‘If the Mets offered him 6 years, $120 million. I think he’d take it.’ If that’s the case, the Mets might be able to do that deal. That might be something they might be able to do. And they said to me, ‘I really believe Reyes and his connections want to stay in NY. As long as they get a reasonable contract.’ I said, ‘What’s reasonable?’ They said, ‘How about 6 years/120.’”

That sixth year will be the ultimate sticking point, considering he will be 34 or so at the end of the contract. However, given Reyes has said he loves New York and wants to finish his career with the Mets, I bet a contract could be wrapped up quickly if Alderson were to come right out with a sixth year guaranteed.
Coming in to play today, Jose Reyes is hitting a major-league best .353, and leads the league with 73 runs scored, 134 hits, and 16 triples. Since returning from the disabled list on July 19, he has four multiple hit games, but has actually lowered his average over that span by going 10 for 30.
