Parnell out for 2 weeks!

Collins is as lame a manager as there ever was and Alderson is Wilpon's butt boy.  Do you think that signing 40 year old Bobby Abreu is the answer.  I do not.  The major problem last year was the bullpen as it is again in 2014.   And then there's the closer.  Parnell is not the one for the job.  He choked when he threw at 98 to 101 mph but now he has trouble going above 90 mph.  Where are the brains to right this organization?  They're not in the front office or on the bench.  2014 will be a season like the last 5.  It's too bad that the Dodgers left.

i still have faith in parnell, i feel he wasn't quite ready yesterday. Valverda looked good and i think will be solid.  I also liked what i saw from familia.  The rest of the bullpen isn't very good and we should consider bringing up a young guy or 2 to fill out the rest.

It's. One. Game.

Is anyone just a little bit alarmed that 18 Mets struck out yesterday ?

The passed ball by TDA was totally expected. We've talked about his lackluster defense all offseason, even though the organization somehow managed to make everyone drink the Kool-Aid to the point where I remember reading a post here about how good TDA is defensively, despite all statistic evidence stating otherwise. I predict he won't finish the season with the Mets, at least not as the lone starting catcher. Another angle to put into TC's bad managing on top of the pitching decisions, the defensive substitutions were pretty much awful all around.

I was disappointed to see  so many fans sitting at Citi I guess they don't  get it. At least a few thousand seats were still empty at the third inning.

Just so you know why Sandy was hired;  not to put a competitive team on the field but to balance Wilpon's check book......and fans go to a game?  If there is a name for stupidity then that is what it is.........Stupid.

I know Mets were down 4 going into bottom of 10th but why did Terry Collins not bat Satin for Duda to lead off inning vs. the lefty? Wright HR could have gotten them to down 1 and who knows? I know he has vitually nothing to work with but when he does make managerial decisions they are frequently bad

It's hard to get excited about Opening Day when you can't get into the ballpark until the 4th inning. Cirque Du Soleil is a great show...but this was NOT the time to be accommodating to another venue when fans have come to see the main attraction-the Mets. It's THEIR property!

You have to admit, Granderson has one of the prettiest strikeout swings in the game. I look forward to seeing it 200+ times this year

This is what you get when you have NO penand two guys in the line up batting under 200, three if you include the pitcher :{

I was NOT very impressed with The Grandyman, not at all. I know it's only one game, but, we HAD the lead the whole game, until the 9th, if this team is going to blow games late, lik eth eteam did a few seasons ago, this will be a long and painful season, again :{ I have no faith in this team at all, I turned off the game as soon as the Nats tied it in the 9th, that is sad. They are going to have to work real hard and do thing very different to regain my faith.

if bullpen not improve, this would be another disappoint year.

Now that the Mets have signed Abreu the transformation is complete. We have 47 OFers, no IFers, 14 SPers, 0 RPers, 2 Useless owners, 1 idiotic GM, and a clueless manager

Mets Fever- Catch it....because they can't!

To be fair that that was a strike to Espinosa was a strike. I hate that if u completely miss the glove and the catcher has to reach all the way across the plate but it's is a strike it's called a ball.

Considering how well the Mets do on opening day, and how poorly they do the rest of the season I'm seeing this loss as something wonderful.

Just a note to Granderson ... STOP trying to hit a homerun every time up!!!!

This loss falls COMPLETELY on Terry Collins ... His pitching substitutions in the 7th inning cost the team the game ... Regardless of Parnell's blown save ... This one should NEVER have happened ... Thanks Terry ...

Just watched top 9.  Parnell didn't look too bad.  His fastball needs a little more life.  It got better as the inning wore on.  He probably just needs some work.

Tough to get excited opening day though when EY and Tejada are your DP combo.

Tough also to get excited about the pen when Rice and Torres are your options in a one run game in the 7th.

Drew?   No.  Nelson Cruz?  No.  Bobby Abreu?   YES!!!  NY Mets baseball at its finest.

I didn't watch the game.  Did the Mets "battle" today?

I've got a strange feeling that this team will hit an early slide and Terry's going to get fired. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

Wayne Labenda

Start calculating now how many games will be lost by not having one more good player. Then realize mets could be so much better.

Wayne Labenda

Spend money on a ss and make one of the two easy double plays and we don't need to depend on the bullpen. Do the mets know there are no ss next year that they will pay money for or who won't just extend their contracts. As long as Wilpons have 14 million extra in there pockets do you think they care about winning. It's money first then hope for a miracle. Spending and getting a ss would help. When do we realize next year is always one year away. This is a joke of an organization.

What about Puello... I think he can help this team with his bat if given the opportunity

@jonn  i agree but its the mets, and a few things that worried the fans came true yesterday and it looks as tho it could happen all year

@Mike  we can hang K banners for every strikeout just like we used to do for Doc when he struck people out. I have a feeling K-urtis is going to be another Jason Bay. I can't wait till they have both K-urtis and Abreu in the same lineup !

@Jim Yager  im jus gunna do what I've been doing for years now, watch until there mathematically out of the playoffs and not go to one game and not spend a dime on this team

@Jimmy BX  Keep track, he hit many meaningless HR's and RBI's last year. Starting same way.

@Joseph Lewis Nah.  As bad as TC is as a manager, this lineup construction isn't his fault.

I got mad at him bringing in Torres and Rice in the spots he did, but really....what are the options?

@Steven Matregrano   The 2 replacements hit the big Home Runs. Wrights was meaningless as usual. Watch the Game before you spew!!!!

As wild as Famiglia was, i like him, he's kind of a "wild thing". I think he'll be good. Remember Washington might have the best lineup in Baseball this year

David Jay

Yes because we can always count on HR from Brown and Lagares. As for the other positives- who gives a sh-t since the negatives are much more than enough to outweigh them?

We get flukey HR production and you want to focus on that.....good lord

Striking out so many times is fine when you hit 3 bombs. This loss falls squarely on the pen.
