Gee was solid. He looks comfortable and poised out there. Some hitting going on. Mets have won a lot of games by putting up large crooked innings, today a 1st inning attack on their old buddy nolasco, some walk offs, some late innings spark. If they can catch this little spring formula in a bottle and figure out how to beat the marlins...

I have several concerns. First, every time I see the lineup, d'Arnaud isn't there. Yes I see the value in not having him catch a lot of innings but his offense was non existent. Shouldn't he be getting some at bats....or are we going to trade him and don't want to risk him getting hurt. Speaking of getting hurt, why are some many players on our team hurt. Where is the off season conditioning? With Satin having a very good spring, why are we wasting time with both Duda and Davis

Tejada is en fuego past 3 games!!! SS is solved !!

I think the smartest thing to do is to have Murphy at first, EY,Jr. at second, Flores at SS with Tejada as late inning defensive replacement when needed. EY, Jr. has to play with his speed. Speed kills!!! Murphy would thrive at first. Flores offensive capability can't be overlooked. LET'S HAVE SOME BALLS AND GO FOR OFFENCE!!!! With the pitching on this team and the outfield defence, this could work.

I think ey should be the 4th outfielder, but who is going to lead off?  also with out ey in the lineup, the mets are way to right handed.  He's the only logical choice, but isn't a starting outfielder in my book.  I don't like tejeda leading off at all, he looks decent in the 2 hole the last couple games, maybe he's best suited there i don't know, but i think he mite have to leadoff

this is the only lineup i could think of.

Duda hitting a home run when we're up 7 already? Where have I seen this before?

@Joseph Baffi  Let's all calm down, its spring training and they played the god-awful Twins.  ( a team far worse than the Mets)

@nsmooth  play the twins 100 games a year and we're golden

@L.a. Henry Stupid idea for two reasons, 1 where's this offense your talking about? Highest average and hr's go to Murphy and all he hit was in the 280's and mid teens in hr's. The other 2 haven't proven they could hit over 260 and both have little to no power at all. 2 With the pitching staff this team plans to be running out there by June you would be doing Wheeler, Thor, and Montero no favors with that defense. In matter of fact that defense would be worse then what you were running out last year and that's really saying something.

The last thing this team needs is for the pitching staff to flounder and you came up with a perfect remedy to make that happen. Besides their offensive output wouldn't come close to their pathetic defense.

@L.a. Henry  Starting EYJ is not a play for offense.  He is a one tool player.  Speed.  He's a bad fielder.  No pop.  Doesn't get on base.  I'd be all for starting Wilmer at SS, defensive warts and all, due to the obvious offensive improvement over Tejada.  I'm not sure EYJ is an obvious offensive improvement over anyone.  Also, Murphy is a paltry offensive 1B.  I'd rather take my chances w Duda at 1B.  I'm a fan of his over Davis.

Ian Carvalho

@L.a. Henry  EY J is a marginal major league player. He shouldn't be starting, especially at a position that is not his first.

crafalko17

@kefhrny17 I think it is really likely that both are up, with Davis getting the nod at the beginning of the season because of his better defense. Having Duda off the bench to pinch-hit would be nice honestly.

@Mike Dell Italia I have a feeling Brown will be on the bench. I'm not worried about leadoff tbh. It happens once a game, not that big of a deal. Also I would guess that Lagares bats below d'Arnaud. I think it's pretty likely that you have Duda on the bench too to be a LH pinch-hitter. Also have a feeling that Flores will be in AAA playing full time.

So your starting Lineup is fine with a bench of Satin/EY/Seratelli/Duda/Brown/Recker. At least until they need a 5th starter a week or 2 into the season.

That lineup honestly looks way better than last year at the very least though.

Joshua Shapiro

Seriously.  I don't get all the Duda hate around here.  I understand if anybody has had enough of Davis, but Duda has never looked as bad as Davis did for the last year and a half.  Duda was just played way out of position.  I'd give him a shot at 1B full time.  Happily take my 260/25/75 with a good OBP and send Davis packing.

@Tony  nothing will convince you about duda! he has a better on base percentage (419) and slugging (750) so shutup!!

crafalko17

@Tony Duda was a solid pinch-hitter when he first came up, just should leave him in that role. lol. No think, just swing at first fastball. Duda smash.

@Joshua Shapiro @L.a. Henry You do realize Flores hasn't proven he can hit major league pitching right? Albeit it was a short sample it's still a sample. So to say "due to obvious offensive improvement over Terada" is complete ludicrous. I'm not saying Flores won't hit but a little early and false to be making that statement. I think fans need to slow down a bit here on this hype with Mets prospects. Let's just sit back and see what happens.

I always thought if we could just get EYJ out of Colorado, he could show what he really is if he got the at-bats.  Obviously DePo thought that too.   This is part of the strategy...to find undervalued players.  Here's one.  If he gets 600 AB, he can steal 60-70 bases, hit .280 with .350 OBP and score 100 runs.  He won't get 600 AB obviously.

@Joshua Shapiro @L.a. Henry  I don't understand why you are a fan of Duda over Davis.  Davis has the better glove and the better overall upside.  What about Duda's dead eye stare excites you?

Id rather have Davis at first personally.Duda should get time at first in Vegas. He doesn't have enough pop to take up a bench position if you ask me.

Starz31
Starz31

I think that's going to be the roster. I could see Q getting on over seratelli tho simply for his defense.

crafalko17
crafalko17

@TonyHe has hit over .240 ONCE in his 4 years. Has a career .424 Slugging % and .342 OBP. Don't just make stuff up, unless you're talking about ST stats which is hilarious since he has had like 8 ST at-bats so far. Oh and he has never hit more than 15 HRs in a season. Crazy good huh?

Vin Santiago
Vin Santiago

@Jim Alderson  His name is not Stella and the New York Mets are not a 90's movie starring Brandy and Whoopie Goldberg, these New York Mets are so much worse and if 90 wins is a goal then EY getting full time work at second and Murphy at first base does not equate to that.

Jim Alderson
Jim Alderson

Multiple years of only 100+ ABs.  how do you go right back to full time without wearing down.  He needs to get his groove back.  Like a pitcher needs to build innings.

Vin Santiago
Vin Santiago

@Jim Alderson  But when the guy had a full time role last year he started off hot but got so over exposed.  He's not a starting player and the Mets are not going to catch lightening in a bottle with him and thats the sad fact and best we can hope for is Timo Perez numbers with more steals.

Joshua Shapiro

@Joseph Baffi    Career triple slashes:

Ike:       242/334/434

Duda:  246/342/424

Anybody who call this no-brainer, has no brain.  At this point Ike Davis is Kevin Maas.  He had one nice stretch and made everybodies panties wet.  Why do you ignore the last 2 years?

Joshua Shapiro
Joshua Shapiro

@Vin Santiago I don't care about "killer instincts"  And all of this talk of Ike's defense...has anyone watched the last 2 years?  He made like 3 plays falling over the railing to catch foul pops his rookie year and everyone decided he was a gold glove 1B, but he hasn't even flashed it since then.  I dont want to deal with Ike's ups and downs and more, considering the ups are barely worth a damn.  I'm not looking for Duda to be our 10-year anwer at 1B, I'm just looking for an adequate, consistent platoon partner for Satin.

Vin Santiago
Vin Santiago

@Seamus Oatis  Duda is also insanely hard to root for because you can tell he has no killer instinct and doubts himself constantly, I mean how many times have you heard Collins and the media talk about that chump's confidence.

Seamus Oatis

Davis is a very tough player to root for. He's a baby and he's argumentative.

@crafalko17 Totally agree.  Ike also has mental things going on.  As far as Duda goes, I know the word anxiety makes some tough guys uncomfortable, but Ike's over-confidence and general brattyness is doing nothing for him.

Joshua Shapiro

@Ken Thall @Joshua Shapiro  There's obviously no great answer at 1B between Ike and Duda.  But, I'm still willing to take my chances w Duda rather than watch Ike Davis flounder around out there for another half-season.  At least Duda's problems are just a confidence issue.  Ike has all the confidence in the world, outwardly anyway, and still hits like my grandmother.
