How was Colon sharp when he gave up 4 runs in 4 innings? Really?

12 innings, that's how long we have Flores to prove he can or cant play short in an supposed position battle. Tejeda has looked just as bad defensively as Flores did, and Flores bat is worlds better than Tejedas. I understand being hesitant to try things out in mid June but this is meaningless spring training. This was the only way for him to start, and he was probably nervous as anything to make an impression, and he got 12 stinking innings of assessment. I don't know what they were thinking. Anybody as excited to see quintinilla at shortstop today as I am???

I too am concerned about SS.  But what about Colon?  Is he going to be an albatross this year or a veteran leader?

Fellow Met fans we have 7.5 months of Mets bball ahead of us, do you think it's time to be FREAKING OUT over everything NOW?

I dunno i prefer to wait and see what the team is coming out of ST and then let em play for a month or so before i lose a gasket.

I suggest we all pace ourselves. Not to mention after Knicks and Giants seasons it's self preservation not to lose my mind over projected line ups and ST errors.

Happy Sunday

This is off-topic, but I have to note this: If the Tigers sign Stephen Drew to replace their injured shortstop Jose Iglesias - and the Mets continue to do nothing to address this glaring, confidence-robbing issue, along with first base - it will only cement that all that "90 wins" and "in 2013 we get serious" stuff was just more of the same string-the-fans-along hooey. Honestly, I don't know how David Wright doesn't storm into Alderson's office and scream "Get me outta here!" This team looks awful this spring.

A blowout in spring training. Makes me so hopeful about this season, when major league players are on the field, the numbers count, and the Mets will have to compete!  Out of shape Bartolo is looking like the perfect signing.

Wilmer with a Homerun and Tejada is yet struggling

@mainemets Of course because he signed with the Mets his career will all of a sudden fall off a cliff. He'll now be the SP version of Jason Bay. At least it's only 2yrs of wasted money.

@eric88  Or maybe how 2 months in fat camp were all the kid needed to develop enough quickness to be passable at SS and yet they wasted 2 years of development time.

@Robert C. Smith  I'm not judging by spring training records- their pitching has been pretty good for the most part- but seeing teams like Atlanta responding to injury in 3 or 4 days by signing Santana, and now Drew will probably be a Tiger in a few days- pretty frustrating watching teams that want to win at all costs- the defense that "we aren't 1 player away so why invest in Drew is total BS- if you make no moves we'll never be in the position to BE 1 player away-I get we'd be overpaying Drew, but he's still a clear upgrade, and more importantly- WE HAVE NO ONE ELSE- ready to play SS, so a 2 year contract is fair.

@Robert C. Smith The fact the DiceK is starting over Meja and Montero and they won't let Flores take enough reps at SS tells you all you need to know.

@William Potts pretty nice crowd and nice weather too......was there more met or cub fans there?  How much were they getting for the tix?

@ponzies86 unfortunately, I think that ship has sailed....I think Tejada is going to be our SS opening day...

@Brian Webster @mainemets  Colon has fallen down many times in his career and gotten back up. That's why his story is so good. Hopefully he'll have a solid first half and then perhaps the Mets move him to a contender for a hitting prospect and replace him with one of the young arms.

@dannym28 @rico  ok sorry, I don't follow them so much, especially with my heart but yeah feel free to ad them or the Hockey teams too:)

@Brian Webster @qualcomm hoe can they say flores cant play short when they drafted him as a ss  smh I don't need a ozzie smith

just a guy who make routine plays with a decent bat

@texasmetsfan @William Potts  I myself didn't go because of the insane price of tickets. $40- $80. The cheap ones, if you could call $40 cheap for a spring training game, were for those people sitting on the grass beyond the outfield walls. Some guy on stub hub was asking $1,102 for his ticket, then lowered it to $222 before it went unsold. The pricing was ridiculous. So to the guy that went all I can say is.....I'll see you there in April when tix are $10 and half the players are the same as the players there this weekend

The Mets drafted Lagares as a shortstop too.

@Steven Matregrano @qualcomm@Robert C. Smith  Neither did Murphy at 2B, but why not give him reps since that's the only position he'll ever be valuable at?  He's a pedestrian bat at 1B; why not give the kid a shot to develop?

As far as Mejia, he's been great this spring, great last year and is clearly ready.  Outside of building innings, I don't know what throwing in Vegas will accomplish other than burning his arm for no reason.

Montero has had a ton of AAA innings; at this point it's getting stupid.  Soon we're going to have guys coming up at 30 years old  to avoid the 2nd generation contact.
