Now THAT was funny. The Dice-K interview looked like a bad Japanese film dubbing. Keep the camera on Dice-K and don't show the interpreter.  Love it!

Good thing the open competition for the 5th spot in the rotation was basically handed to Dice-K instead of seeing what Montero could do with the same amount of opportunities.  This organization is so afraid of a sooner payday that they will sacrifice potential for mediocrity.  Its a shame bc Montero looked like he deserved a chance at the 5th spot, but the Mets cite his need for development in AAA.  Nevermind that the Mets AAA team plays in a dreadful place for pitchers.  Even with Niese going down and the need for a spot starter, the Mets, I assume, will turn to Lannan instead of Montero.  Play the best players, independent of how many innings they have played at the big league level.  If he didn't merit staying up, then send him back and let him work on his issues.  To not even give him a chance, after we read about the open competition for the 5th spot, seems like the same old Mets way of doing business.

Three questions for this dysfunctional organization-

1. Why is Tejada starting at short?

2. Why ISN'T Lagaras starting in center?

3. Who the hell is starting at first?

I just don't get it.

Love that Brown. The player the loonies hate. Just saying.

I was at the game today and Flores made one hell of a play late in the game, backhanding a shot to the hole at short and firing a strike to first ...

Not too many chances for him today but he looked like Marty Marion on that one!

Please put Wilmer at 1st base. He can become our 1st base David Wright type for a decade. He has ALWAYS been an infielder. You question his range and arm so it's a perfect fit. What is wrong with the mgt. on this team. How come you don't do the obvious. I think you are saving him for 2nd when you DUMP Murphy over salary. Tell you what, get Franklin, put him at short this year and then move him in to 2nd when you move Murphy. You can get a good SS FA next winter. It is way past the time to move IKE, make Duda come off the bench. He sucks at first defensively anyway. His positioning and footwork are  horrible. Play FLORES EVERYDAY, he will eventually become an RBI machine like in the Minors. WAKE UP SANDY.

To parse it down to the least common denominator, the kiddies and the wife are happy with today's outcome.   That said, I hope the clueless frauds who hold this team hostage  sell it to someone more capable of  taking on the enormous responsibility of owning a National League Major League Baseball team in the best baseball market in the world.  Clearly the two clowns who currently own it have absolutely no idea.  The fans deserve better.

People keep saying that Flores' defense isn't good enough to play shortstop in the big leagues but remind me again how many errors Tejada has this spring? Yes yes yes I know it is spring training but come on now

Wally Pipp = Lou Gerhig why not why not pray and maybe Tajada = Flores....Dreams do come true.

I don't care who starts at SS as long as its not Tejada.

God I love our broadcasters! Keith was on a roll today. He cracked me up with his crack about Harvey, talking about him rehabbing in NY vs St Lucie. And then suggesting he could go to home stands but when they went on road he could then fly down to FLA. And then he said "How much does that cost? $148 on Southwest?"

Kevin and Darling were hysterical. Keith will probably get a talking to but god he was a riot today.

I really feel like it would be stupid not to just give Wilmer a shot on opening day to be the everyday shortstop. He clearly has the offensive ability to play in the show, and if we could live with Daniel Murphy bouncing around 3 positions before finally settling in, we can certainly do the same with Flores.

package DeGrom and Tejada for Didi.... Mets NEED to do something !!!!

Wilmy Flo looked okay at SS, though I still wonder if keeping in shape to play SS isn't gonna hinder his batting prowess, possibly leaving him overpowered at times.

Good thing about having a guy like Flores at ss though, is you could have Lugares as lead off and maybe not compromise the lineup protection too much for Wright, Granderson, Young, TDA, Davis/Duda/Cambell/Satin/Brown/Lutz/Puello/Vaugn and it goes on.

I still think stick Wright at first, Murph at 3rd and Flores at 2nd though. Get A good SS, or righty/lefty platoon Tejada/Quintanilla or Saratelli.

TheDuke189
TheDuke189

Brown will probably head north with the big club. I think they should give Flores a shot at SS gotta be better than Tejada's poor play. He was so promising when he first came up I am really disappointed he didn't progress. Get rid of Duda and Davis and use Satin and someone else at first. My god those two aren't even playing, two of the most useless first basemen ever.

After watching today's game I think Erick Campbell should be our starting 1st baseman and EYjr should be our starting 2nd baseman

Zach Goeringer

I'm not naïve enough to say give Flores the starting job after one nice play. But I think he has atleast earned split time with Tejeda at ss through the remainder of the spring before the assess who should be starting.

Aidan Maslow

Lets not forget that Wilmer also looked very good at SS today. That play is the 8th (I think) may have won him the starting job.

John Paul Cullinane

Flores had "an RBI and one hit" - I take this to mean a sac fly plus a base hit...is that right?  If so, could Tejada ever get an RBI by putting the ball in play PLUS get a base hit in the same game?  I don't think so.  Sign Drew or start Flores this year...then move Flores to 2B next year when you lose Murphy and go for one of the SS's next year (I know they won't get one of the top 3, but at least it's somewhat of a plan which is more than any of these stooges can give)

@Stearnsfan12  The Mets throw more BS it's gotten to the point that their lies are fooling any legitimate fan. Their crap is so transparent, they think we bye this nonsense. It is sad, but every single decision no matter how minor has absolutely nothing to do with winning and everything to do with money.

@Kenneth Meltsner  He's the number 5 starter so get pumped. Then that bumb Lannan is going to be the 4th starter now Niese will start the season on the DL sooooooooooo 90 wins.

Its like this team keeps saying no offense, sub par back end rotation, no short stop or firstbasemen = profit.

@eric88  Flores = actual prospect. Duda and Davis: AAAA stiffs. I honestly can't see how our beloved Flushing brain trust can't figure that out.

@eric88  Where don't people want Wilmer?

SS, 2nd base, 1b, pitcher, catcher?

You'd think he was the 2nd coming of Bugs Bunny vs the Gas House Gorillas!

@Tarheel11  why does anyone think anyone talks to Keith about anything?  The guy has spent the last three seasons talking about how inept the hitting coach is with these metties and he will never stop.  There is no telling Keith anything because I bet you all he gives them as a response is a buzz off.

@Wayno  The Mets brass is wrong scouts are baseball people not good enough to be coaching or managing the Mets. Think about it scouts are dumber than TERRY and Sandy!

@Aidan Maslow  He also tripped over himself preventing an easy double play, but yes, that was a very nice play in the 8th. I think today was probably a B- grade all in all.

metsfanman

@Jerry Colfer  Flores did fail to turn a double play an MLB shortstop should turn when he seemed to lose his footing and ended up not making a throw as a result, but otherwise agree that he looked good (not just did he show range in getting to the ball in the hole, but made an impressive throw after doing so).

Agree with both of you that the offensive upgrade would be sufficiently high to justify some growing pains that would occur with Flores at SS, especially with Tejada looking less than stellar with the glove this spring anyway, on top of his limited offensive skill set.

@Steven Matregrano "LMAO"

crafalko17
crafalko17

@Steven Matregrano @cmetsfan All true, though Murph throws righty and bats lefty so he could if he wanted to. The fact that he wants to move Wright to first, as position he has never played in his life, is just silly. Murphy's best defensive position is 3B so he wasn't off there. But like you said, Wright is GG calibur and you do not move him. If anything move Murph to first, Flores at 2B and leave Wright at 3B if you think it overall improves the lineup.

brownbear7
brownbear7

From what I'm hearing the defensive capabilities of both Flores and Franklin are about the same. Why would we trade with Seattle for something we have? All I know is he looked great beating that slow roller down the third base line and the offensive upgrade is much needed over the weak muscled Tejada. I still think signing Drew would make us better but I'm all for upgrading next year when the shortstop class is better than it has been for years. Maybe doing a trade with Arizona isn't right either because of what we would have to give up in order to get Gregorious, seeing how he is the shortstop that Arizona doesn't want anyways!
