All we is need Is to call up capt. K.. Then I'll really wonder what happened and ask is it still 2013.

whoever wrote this did not even watch the game. Melky hit a two run homerun in the 8th inning. He didn't have an rbi double the runner was thrown out at the plate. Sad reporting

More of the same, more lack of offensive (or roster) creativity, same AAAA faces, young arms shuttled back to AAA - among every Mets fan I know, the lack of enthusiasm is overwhelming. Virtually no one I know is either attending opening day or now holds even a partial ticket package - there used to be 11 families just in my Flushing apartment building that did so. That number is down to zero.

Nice job, Sandy, Fred, and Jeff. Here's a stone cold fact: In terms of public perception, The Mets are now the third team in a two-team town.

Ironically enough, the Mets played today in front of a bigger crowd then they could ever have at home, for a (relatively) meaningless pre-season game.

How are you going to win games without any offense?

Am I the only one that gets put to sleep by the punchless Mets offense every infrequent time I watch this team? Must be because they are not smart enough to understand this "see many pitches and wait for your pitch approach".

Would be nice to see the mets offense clicking much more, Sandy needs to go find more help.. Tejada isn't doing anything offensively at SS, should have put Flores there.

OK ... again, this is amazing ... the wrap states Cabrera drove home one run with a double and the other with a solo homer.

Gosh, who the hell writes this stuff? Cabrera hit a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the 8th. It's not a hard scoring play ... puh-leeze!

Losing spectacularly in late innings before a big, loud, away crowd. We're ready.

Last season Mejia had an ERA of 2.30 with 27 Strike outs and 4 Walks IDK why it was even a debate this year on who should be the 5th starter

MartyBarrett17

"The pitching is pretty good, hope we can get a SS and a 1B"...said everyone last year. Nice job Sandy.

Mejia ERA 2.70

Dice K ERA 3.04

Only fools would say Dice K was better when in fact he only had 2 good outings this spring

Incorrect summary. Game was 0-0 until Melky hit a two-run HR in the 8th. More careless reporting.

Sorry folks, Matsusaka pitched a better game than Mejia. Matsusaka deserves to be in the staring rotation,

Period.

Dice K was good for his final 2 starts of ST but Mejia was better thru out ST

that was disappointing. Morrow had a 9 era. was he that good or the Mets that bad? come on bats wake up! see you monday. go mets!

Hope they find their damn bats by 3/31!

Dice has really looked great especially of Late. Wouldn't even be mad if he's our 5th starter

huh?  I though Melky hit a two-run HR?

What's funny about this recap error is that the recap on sny.tv that they usually copy (sometimes word for word) even has it right.

Maybe it wasn't the debate everyone made it out to be. If it was Dice K's outing today probably would have won him the spot.

@MartyBarrett17  SS and Bullpen is more of a concern I think Mets should think about bringing up DeGrom he was solid out the Pen

@ponzies86 I like Mejia, But how many inns has he pitched? There is now way he is in the rotation the whole year, will have a low innings ceiling. just sayimg

@ponzies86  stop whining, teams don't make decisions based on what bloggers or every whacky fan wants….do they?

lindro88

Mejia got the spot. They both pitched well

gregf

Yes ... sheesh! If it happened to be one of those 30-player, early spring games with a final score of 18-11, perhaps I could see the scoring mishap, but in a 2-0 game? Low cred here, folks ...

Dice-K's one good performance is irrelevant. He does not fit on this team. This year is about developing young talent further and evaluating which players can be an integral part of a contender next season.

If the Mets were a legitimate 90 win team and needed a veteran fifth starter for a portion of the season, Dice-K might be a better option. But they have such glaring holes on offense and their ace is likely out for the season. It is far-fetched to think they can make the playoffs this year.

Bottom line: When this team is in the race for a division title, Dice-K will be long gone, but Mejia might play an important role. Mejia has been a prospect for a long time. It is time to see if he can be effective for an extended period of time at the MLB level.

Dice K has gotten the same treatment from the astute minds on this blog that Byrd did going into last season. I like Mejia just like everyone does, but if Dice K has found his form, he can be this years Byrd. Looks like he'll start the season in Vegas, but they'll need more than 5 starters.

He did. Our reporter must have had one too many Molsons ... or LaBatts, or maple syrup ...

golflady7

He did, they, however must not have watched the game!! Getting beyond bad here! P.s. the runner was thrown out at home on Melky's double! Sad!

I don't think any team has full confidence in their bullpen. I just think our 1B situation about as messy as it gets. Duda makes me physically ill and Ike is a head case. Satin is Satin.

zoddie

@bleck319 Both guys will be needed.  6th and even 7th starters are needed every year.  If Dice-K rebounds, flip him for some hitting at the deadline to a contender.  Sandy has proven with Beltran and Byrd that he is capable of making good trades for young talent.

rico

@lindro88  they're going to need both, at least for a couple of months.

you'd think people would wait for the season to start before all the angst bitching and moaning, but you'd be wrong.

I think some around here love losing, because without it they'd have nothing to windge about

I'm happy for Mejia. He's a gutsy looking pitcher.

bleck319

Agree. But give Mejia the first shot. Use Dice-K in case of injury.

@rico @lindro88  Mets fans are mets fans. If a guy was hitting .320 with 30hr's and 100RBI's in august, and he struck out in a clutch situation, he'd be getting called a "not clutch producer" and "a drag on this team for never coming through when they need him." That's what it is to be a mets... or NY fan.
