Final Score: American League 3 National League 0

photoThe Least You Should Know… about the Mets:

Matt Harvey started for the National League. He pitched two innings and faced eight batters. He let up one hit, no runs, struck out three and hit Robinson Cano in the knee with a fastball.

David Wright started at third base and had a single in three at bats.

It’s late. I’ll write more tomorrow. However, a few quick notes before this amazing day ends… I had never been to an All Star Game before, and this was truly an incredible experience. It’s fun, that’s it, pure and simple. It’s not about the standings, or trades, or anything other than really good talent, celebrating a game we all love and having fun doing it.

The best thing about Harvey hitting Cano in the leg was seeing him only concerned with getting the ball back. Next! The dude is locked in, and I love it. He later apologized to Cano, but that first reaction was great.

The way Mariano Rivera entered the game in the eighth inning was unique, fitting and perfectly done. The image of him standing on the mound, Enter Sandman blaring in the background, with literally every person in the building (every player, every fan) on their feet, honoring this guy, was one of the best things I’ve ever seen.

Lastly, I’m happy for Wright. He was grinning ear to ear all day, genuinely enjoying himself and taking in every moment. He’s earned everything he has and I’m happy he got this experience.

The Mets are off Wednesday and Thursday. They resume play on Friday at home against the Phillies.
