Tradition Field by Michael G Baron

Morning Mets: Ike in camp, Wheeler wants it, Parnell on pace

Mets players and coaches already in camp will continue to hold unofficial workouts on the minor-league side of Tradition Field until this weekend, when camp officially begins for pitchers and catchers.

Here’s the least you should know

Zack Wheeler wants to be the Opening Day starter

“I know I am still a rookie and any of the other guys could do it, but I am trying to be the Opening Day starter, too,”  Wheeler told media in St. Lucie on Tuesday (Daily News, Feb. 10).

Ike Davis and others already in camp

Davis and Josh Satin are the most prominent position players to arrive to camp a week before their required report date.

The Mets say Davis will not talk to media until Friday, when major-league camp opens for business.

Bobby Parnell is behind schedule, but still on pace for Opening Day

Parnell said he’s roughly two weeks away away from throwing off a mound and he expects to be ready by Opening Day.

“We’re doing little things every day,” he said Monday. “I’ve had no setbacks or pain or anything like that.”

AFTER READING COMMENTS ABOUT OWNERS, PLAYERS, GEN. MANAGERS ETC. WHY DON'T YOU JUDGE YOURSELF FIRST, INSTEAD OF COMPLAINING, YAK, YAK, YAK. THE TEAM IS TRYING TO BECOME A CONTENDER, GUYS, AND THEY WILL! "ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DA" TRY BEING IN THEIR SHOES , GIVE ME A BREAK. I'VE BEEN A FAN OF THE METS SINCE DAY 1 AND THEY ALWAYS HAD THEIR UPS AND DOWNS. TRYIN BEING A FAN IN 1962!OH BOY! NOW THAT WAS THE YEAR YOU HAD TO HAVE PLENTY OF PATIENCE!

God, it SUCKS that Harvey is hurt.  Ok, that's the last time I'll mention that this season.

Not sure anyone has ever used Josh Satin and prominent in the same sentence.

LOVE hearing that from Wheeler. In the shadow of the Harvey, we forget this guy is a bulldog too. Go get it, kid.

Love to hear that from Wheeler.  Too many "Just happy to be here" mentalities on the current and past Met rosters.

I'm sure someone has used it to describe his eyebrows at some point.

@Bob Burket I know, that championship video is pretty much the only reason I haven't thrown out my VCR yet.

He and Duda are probably better off training at that state of the art facility in Michigan than kissing Collin's arse by showing up early and letting the old man throw them loli pop batting practice under palm trees. Davis is pulling out all the stops letting his daddy fight his battles and the brownie points here.

@Victor Triguero Well of that group of position players those are the 2 expected to make the team. Anyway glad Ike is there and hope some competition pushes him to a breakout year for the Mets because I'm not crazy about the alternative.

@mets2891 @Bob Burket I watched it on utube but I also have games 6 and 7 on VHS. Also just watched Tommie Agee's game 3 HR and 2 catches from 1969.  Might be the closest we get to a Mets world series for some time.
