Jeurys Familia 2

Familia had trouble warming up

Jeurys Familia had a tough time warming up on Tuesday night, Terry Collins said on Wednesday. The manager said he will not use him in Wednesday’s game.

Collins said that Familia had the night off on Monday, too, due to a minor velocity dip in recent games.

Collins said that Familia, whose fastball has averaged a tick above 96 MPH in 2014 and who touches 97 and 98 MPH at times, was sitting around 94 MPH during his appearance on Sunday.

Prior to his appearance on Sunday, Familia threw 45 pitches during his 1 2/3 innings of work on Friday and the Mets were concerned that he might be a bit tired.

I know it's not the big bat that the Mets need, but I think a good trade for the Mets could be for a veteran bullpen arm to take some of the pressure off Mejia and Familia. Since both are converted starters they have both reached career high in appearances already. They are going to need some more days off in the second half.

Terry has over used certain effective members of the BP, the ailments are no surprise. Yet he is still 25&40 in the last 65 games!!

We need durable pitchers. Overused?? He's pitched 4 innings this month. Meija? He's pitched 12 innings over the past 30 days.

Maybe we should just keep 20 pitchers so these two can throw two pitches then leave.

Overmanaging once again.   Who care if you overuse Buddy Carlyle.  Up 8 runs with 4 outs to go give the important parts of your bullpen the night off.   Carlyle just struck out the best left handed hitter the Braves had.   How many elbows have to be blown out before TC gets fired?   Free Wally

I guess all the arms are getting tired just in time for the all-star break.

Well maybe if the mop-up guys were able to hold a seven-run lead. Ya' get what ya' pay for, Sandy. Ease back on this guy and you may very well have the next Betances.

TC is no different than the last couple of Met managers, Willie and Manuel.  Constantly managing in fear for his job, to the total detriment of the bullpen health.

I wish I could say I'm surprised, but I'm not.  Typical TC mismanaging.

No sht he's tired. TC does so many things that don't make sense.

It's too bad TC can't figure out how to overuse Juan Lagares the way he's overusing Jeurys Familia. (He's sitting again tonight, after a two-hit game last night and a big hit Monday, so that 41-year-old Bobby Abreu can play.)

Since the game was so close, can see why he came in regardless.

Trouble warming up and 98mph? I'd love to have that problem...

TC is terrible at most, if not all, of his managerial duties. This comes as no surprise.

Mejia and Familia both with issues mid season no less. This happens and shows the need to have more young pitchers not less. So trading them willy nilly for bats may not be a very good option going forward.

He had a 7 run lead with only four outs to go and he ends up bringing in a guy who had a "red flag" warmup issue??????????

Carlyle should have been given the chance to finish the game.  TC over managed the hell out of the bullpen as he always does.

He should of conferred with David Cone

And also let's not forget he knew he had Gee coming back on the bump tonight and he would be limited to 90 or so pitches and that the pen needed as much rest as possible.  Unreal.

TC with the Bullpen is like my stepmom and her credit card during a Labor Day weekend QVC binge

And still TC brought him in knowing he had trouble warming up? Are you serious??? WOW! It was a blow out game. Familia should have never pitched in that game. I would not be surprised if he ends up in the DL anytime soon.

He should never have been warming up. There was ZERO reason to take Carlyle out with a 7 run lead.  Let Eveland pitch the 9th no matter what.  Terry loves to burn through the pen

Why in God's name did he use Familia last night?????  The Mets had a 5-run lead and needed 2 more outs.  They could/should have used Germen.  They knew that Familia was tired and had trouble warming up.  Germen was warming up at the same time and they knew that he would be off the team as soon as the game ended.  Now neither of them are available tonight.

Terry needs to be more carefull on how he uses his young pitchers.

Not the number of innings, but the number of pitches thrown. Collins wears out the work horses. He's. A poor manager IMHO.

@Kenneth Meltsner wonder how Bobby Parnell is progressing ?

They talk about Harvey, Hefner but not a peep about Parnell

@hashburry very manager knows they are hired to be fired

and even if they fire him they still have to pay him.

maybe MLB should expand the rosters to 26 or 27 so teams could carry another reliever and perhaps catcher

@fatherflot Not only that he had Eveland warming in the 4th he has guys up all night whether they need them or not . Collins destroys teams in many more ways than just his failure to understand in game strategy.

@ewildcat7 Yeah -- TC needs to stop managing like he's listening to fans on some website, who start to scream "Oh My God, they're going to blow it again!!!!!" when a man gets on base for the other team while the Mets have a 6 run lead...

@ewildcat7 Germen? The guy who gave up 4 runs his last time out? There was a reason he was demoted.

Parnell is gone.
