Eric Young Jr runs out his two run homer

Eric Young Jr. could return from the DL next Monday

Terry Collins said Friday that Eric Young, Jr. could be activated from the disabled list by next Monday.

Young, who’s been on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring since May 25, is set to continue his rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Friday night.

When Young returns, it’s likely that he’ll be replacing either Andrew Brown or Matt den Dekker on the roster.

4:27 pm: Eric Young Jr. should eventually move his rehab to Triple-A Las Vegas, Terry Collins said Thursday.

3:38 pm: Young played left field and went 1-for-4 with a walk in a rehab game with Single-A St. Lucie on Thursday.

He has been on the disabled list since May 25 with a right hamstring strain.

Young was hitting .220 with eight extra base hits, seven RBI and 17 stolen bases before going on the DL.

The Mets are 18-16 in games when Young is in the starting lineup.

Can he replace Chris Young on the roster, that man has no reason to be on the team anymore...

Who?  Even GKR rarely talk about him.

people actually pay $70 to see the Mets play?

it cost me 160 bucks for the season.  i get every game on my 52 inch LCD in beautiful color.

I also get to watch other teams as well.  good thing I left NY years ago.  games are on at 4 :30 and I don't have to waste my evenings watching this team play.  also with a DVR you can get through the mess in 30 minutes.

Just what we need, another .220 hitter with no power

Alright, alright, alright! Print-up those playoff tickets. Just throw the guy in LF and bench the other Young. Or maybe see if he'll accept a demotion to work-out his batting issues. Or maybe monkeys will fly outta my butt.

What exciting news. I won't be able to sleep until I see his sad ass name in the lineup. Another Met mediocre Ball player

A sorry team when we are hoping for his .220 and 7 RBI's in MID JUNE back! he's a true #4 OF and #3 2B, double switch/pinch runner type..if over 250~ AB's, his production plummits...

Can't wait to add another .200 hitter to our team.

He can steal a base. No one else on this team can.

The Mets should send Terry Collins to AAA and bring up Wally Backman.....oh wait, you can't do that, can you ??

So EY played in St Lucie, FL last night and will play in Binghamton, NY tonight then fly out to play in Las Vegas, NV on Sat to then fly back to NY for the Mets on Sun? Makes perfect sense!

And while Brown and den Dekker are good guesses as to the roster move for EY I'll put my money on Grandy needing to go on the DL by the time EY comes back given the Mets luck with injuries.

On a real team he gets a start a week (maybe) and pinch runs. On the Mets (with Lagares out) he is the most productive outfilelder on the team....yes moreso than Granderson.

He is among the best in the league at 1 thing, stealing bases.  That's one more thing than pretty much anyone else on the team can say.  So yeah, I look forward to having back in the lineup every day.

theglider

He's a switch hitter who leads off and can steal. No one else on this roster offers that.

exileinla

If EYJr replaces den Dekker, then it's Young (usually Chris, maybe Eric) in CF every night...especially now that Granderson's calf is bothering him.  That's enough reason to send down Brown.

Also, with Campbell on the bench, Brown is duplicative.

EYJ: Well, off the DL! Thanks, doc! Does that mean I'll be able to hit the ball?

Doc: Sure!

EYJ: That's good, 'cause I couldn't hit, before!

Doesn't really matter, he's not a good hitter...His ba, obp and ops will show that

I'm actually looking forward to seeing E. Young back. Which is sad, because the ONLY reason why I'm looking forward to it is that it might spell the end of Ruben Tejada hitting leadoff.

"The Mets are 18-16 in games when Young is in the starting lineup."

I'm calling out whoever wrote this ridiculous, anecdotal stat.  A .220 hitter with 8 extra base hits on the season is NOT the answer.  Insinuitating he is demeans us all.

metstastic

There is no right way in this situation.. If the next hitter hits a bomb, TC left him in too long.

theglider

He brought in Familia who got Ramirez out. You're complaining because we got out of the inning?

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@theglider Murphy has 11. But I understand your point. He is a threat and distraction to pitchers. Even though he doesnt have a great AVG, he walks enough, reaches on errors on the infield, and is tough to double up.

Jerry Colfer
Jerry Colfer

Once he and Juan are back it is hard to see CY remaining

yankeehater

@Michael Collins is starting to look like he has the baseball version of PTSD...they need to get rid of him for his own good.

yankeehater
yankeehater

@Brian Webster What we really need is someone to start eating a lot of bananas and discrading their peels by CY's locker.

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@yankeehater Hardly more than Granderson. Grandy does get on base and scores runs, plus the power threat, and he has been fine since May 1.

Joe Paulson
Joe Paulson

@exileinla Fair call but just underlines how Chris Young continues to be a waste.  W/o him, Brown would likely stay, and I think the team is better with him over CY.

yankeehater
yankeehater

@BringBackDaveTelghe It points to the futility of the rest of the team. You left out his run total....the dude was getting on and scoring when he did. He missed TWENTY games and he is only 2 runs behind curtis and 1 behind wright. If he had only missed just 10 games he'd probably lead the team in runs scored.

theglider
theglider

But the team is 18-16 in games he's started. Who knows why but that's what it is.

metstastic
metstastic

He would be the best healthy alternative to a bad OF.

theglider
theglider

He can steal, though. Right now the only steals we see are by the other teams. And with our outfielders hitting .220 or lower, then let's hit .220 with some speed.

theglider
theglider

He's the leadoff batter we don't have.

If he leads off, Murphy is second, then Wright, Duda, Lagares then Granderson. Shortstop then catcher.

It's not a great lineup but it's not terrible.

eric88
eric88

@Jerry Colfer Sandy has Man Love for EY and Tejada, they will play while Terry's here.

Brian Webster
Brian Webster

@sandybgone @jamets  But if he can somehow get on 1B he can steal 2B then steal 3B and then hope for a wild pitch or passed ball. That probably would be the Mets highest % chance for scoring a run right now

theglider
theglider

Perhaps, but his job is to get on. Driving him in is what others need to do.

And as far as getting on base, bet you didn't know he has a better on base percentage than Mookie Wilson did. If we got another Mookie people would be rejoicing.

theglider
theglider

Speed does that. It makes fielders do things they wouldn't otherwise.

That's an element this team needs. Someone who can disrupt and swipe a run with a walk, steal, right side out and a fly. Right now it's station to station ball.
