Edgin and Dice-K get cortisone shots

Josh Edgin and Daisuke Matsuzaka both received cortisone shots in their respective elbows, the Mets said.

They are both expected to rejoin the team in Cincinnati, where the Mets open a series on Friday night, but they might not be able to pitch with them by then.

Edgin and Dice-K both visited doctors in New York regarding elbow pain and inflammation.

Edgin was diagnosed with bone spurs and Terry Collins said the team was “uncertain” about if he’ll be able to pitch again this season (Vorkunov, Sept. 1).

This is exactly why you can't make bold statements like our bullpen is set for X number of years.  Pitchers are delicate flowers. Most wilt easily.

Just get Edgin bone chip surgery already so he's ready for next Spring Training.

My respect for Daisuke Matsuzaka grows.  He could take the $18M John Henry and the Red Sox gave him, and go home to Japan and a heroes welcome - instead he battles on.  Good man.

They should just shut down Edgin.

You don't need the word "respective" here. Comes across like an amateur trying too hard.

Mets should have a promotion "cortisone shot night"

Glad it's not Tommy John surgery for Edgin: "ANSWER: Surgery often is a good choice for treating elbow bone spurs that are causing problems. In many cases, it can relieve pain and restore mobility. Using new techniques that reduce inflammation after surgery, recovery time typically is short. In most cases, people can return to activities of daily living in a week or less, and to high-demand activities within two to six weeks."

@kingsword1 Give the mets some HGH and greenies and it's 1986.

(no I'm not suggesting the 86 mets were doing roods, probably everything else though)

Removing bone chips is not a major surgery. He can have the surgery after the season and be ready in plenty of time for spring training.

@Doubleday regardless I still hope this is the last year he's in a Mets uniform.

@DarrolRayFanClub I'm wondering if it is Edgin's left elbow or right one.  They were unsure of that here the other day.

@rico "The first 10,000 fans get a cortisone shot, courtesy of Smith-Kline, and a Curtis Granderson bobble head (wearing a Brewers cap), left over from last weekend."

@rico the mets need to change their 'kids win an inning in the booth competition' to 'kids win a game to manage the mets' competition or maybe even act as owner

@kingman76 @Doubleday i think he could be useful in our bullpen next year.  a veteran presence with the youth we have back there may prove to be worth it.

@Andrew Vazzano It's actually one of the better written sentences on MetsBlog this season.  Proper English.  Keep up the good work, Andrew.
