Dustin Ackley rumors: Mets, others have asked, but no traction

The Mets, Yankees and Padres have asked the Mariners about 2B Dustin Ackley (Heyman, Dec. 10), but trade talks have gotten no traction (Rosenthal, Dec. 17).

Ackley is popular and teams ask about him often, “which is typical at this time of year,” but he’s not likely to be traded, a person close to the team said in early December (Cerrone, Dec 11).

Ackley, 25, is arbitration eligible each of the next three seasons, after which he can be a free agent.

He .253 with a .319 OBP, .660 OPS, 18 doubles, four HR and 31 RBI in 113 games for the Mariners. He’s played second base, first and outfield during his professional career.

Shouldn't be interested unless Alderson gives up a Tapia type prospect.

He's obviously got some talent, but it seems like he's regressed each of the past 3 years.  At this point, he's not a stronger player than Murphy, and he's not a full-time OF or 1B.  He's basically a more-talented Justin Turner or a more flexible Josh Satin.  Valuable, but not worth overpaying for.

Why in the world would the Mets inquire on Ackley? He's never played an inning at SS and we don't need another 2B or CF either. We should be inquiring on Brad Miller or Nick Franklin.

Will they stop trying to trade Murphy. 286 average 92 runs scored 80 something RBI 13 home runs and 23 stolen bases. Do they expect to do better than that on the open market. Please just focus on shortstop. why don'twe trade David right next

Would anyone be upset with Jeff Locke for Ike Davis?

Don't the Mets have a second basemen? And don't they have other wholes to fill?

The amount of interest the Mariners are showing in their own player cannot be overstated.

Good God. .253/.319/.341. This guy's "popular"? What is he, a good cook or something?

Not an upgrade over Murphy, and we don't need OF or 1B help.  Pass

The Mariners are asking themselves about Ackley? That's awfully introspective of them.

@metfan9876 Yes, I'd be upset. (but only mildly) If I were going to ask Pittsburgh for a pitcher, it would be either Nick Kingham or Tyler Glasnow. I'd prefer to get a position player though, so first I would push for Gregory Polanco, and if no go, Alen Hanson would do.

@kefhrny17 True man, but this tells me they would use this as a set up move. Thought is, if they have a deal to move Murph for what they truly are targeting then you have a plan to fill the 2nd base hole. You have to have other things in motion to beat a team to the punch instead of start from scratch dealing.

Despite the Mariner's interest in Ackley, trade talks with the Mariners haven't gotten any traction.

@minion When told by an underling they already control Ackley, Jack Z. publicly berated the man, and promptly fired him.

@Sam Schildkraut Offensively, sad but true.. I would keep him for another year or 2 and flip him for prospects before he hits free agency in 2015. If he keeps hitting like this, we might ave to consider locking him into a long term contract.

@metstastic @Sam Schildkraut I'm all for that.....Don't want to say in a  couple of years "Why did we ever get rid if him.....I feel he can be a 20 home run producer along with 300 plus avg.
