Terry Collins said today that he would ask Lucas Duda to play first base only if there was an injury to Ike Davis.
“Lucas has played pretty well in left field,” Collins explained. “Can he play first? Absolutely. If something happened to Ike? Sure.” However, he added, “If I go to him and tell him to take balls at first, I’m not sure what kind of message that sends.”
Duda is hitting .273 with a .475 OBP, 5 HR and 8 RBI in 44 at bats for the Mets this season. Meanwhile, Davis is batting just .178 with 3 HR in 60 at bats.
