Draft is almost over, so when do we learn of PTBNL for Ike Davis?

The Mets recently traded Ike Davis to the Pirates for minor-league RHP Zack Thornton and a player to be named later.

According to multiple reports, the additional player was drafted by the Pirates in 2013, meaning the final trade cannot be announced until one year after the player signed his first contract.

The player to be named later will be “pretty significant,” columnist Jon Heyman wrote the day of the deal (CBS Sports, Apr. 18).

The buzz around the time of the trade was the player coming from the Pirates was a top pick. I’m holding out hope it’s OF Austin Meadows, but I’d say there is little-to-no-chance of that happening. The kid is terrific. Instead, there had been heavy speculation surrounding 22-year-old Pirates OF JaCoby Jones, who was taken with Pittsburgh’s third pick last summer. In the event Pittsburgh is sending over a pitcher, most insiders link Sandy Alderson and Paul DePodesta to 18-year-old RHP prospect Neil Kozikowski, whom they reportedly scouted last year. He was drafted with Pittsburgh’s eighth pick last summer.

Kozikowski signed June 21, 2013, while Jones signed July, 1, 2013. In the event it is one of these two players being traded to the Mets, the Pirates would have to wait until these dates this year to complete the transaction.

Is the Pirates GM a crack head? Why does anyone think they would give up anyone significant for Ike Davis? Their top outfield prospect? Keep dreaming. I'm surprised that Matt doesn't speculate that were getting McCutchen back for Davis

If the pirates give up Austin Meadows in a deal to get Ike Davis they are nuts.

If it's Meadows, expect ike to suddenly hit .400 the rest of the season, with 20 hrs. And win the gold glove

Actually if you look at the positions than JaCoby Jones has played this season it's been exclusively as a shortstop so there is that.

I guess we'll find out when the MLB draft is completed, which it isn't.

Choose the player that will turn out to be a flop. That's the one we're getting.

Meadows signed June 28th, but I guess it could be anyone the Pirates drafted in the 1st 10 rounds or so. If the player makes the Majors it won't be until around 2017 anyway

Total non story because it will be a non impact player.

Mets probabley decided they didn't want him. I remember when the Mets traded Harry Chiti for a PTBNL and the PTBNL turned out to be Harry Chiti.

Ann, the life of the Mets fan, the future looks great just wait a couple years. The song and dance is getting old! How about we make better decisions at the major league level?

Pirates have some quality outfielders in the MLB already with Palanco on his way as well at some point so maybe Meadows was available and they thought highly of Ike Davis, who knows... mets could use some good news at this point of the season.

Is another team's 3rd or 8th round pick really "significant"?  Hard to get excited about. IMO significant would be a 1st or high 2nd rounder.

And yes, his name is actually spelled "JaCoby."

Honus Wagner. We need a shortstop.

We have a better chance of making the playoffs than having Austin Meadows as the PTBNL.

@oldrockingguy I would have been happy with Jones, big upside but not a lock seemed about right for ike. However, I believe he wrecked his Knee and is out for the season.

You can act that way before a draft. The longer the time goes by after a draft, position matters less and less.
