20-year-old 2B prospect Dilson Herrera was 0-for-3 with a fielding error in his big-league debut with the Mets on Friday night.
“To be honest, it was a little bit of nerves going into the first inning, but after that it was fine,” Herrera said through an interpreter after the game. “I felt good the rest of the night.”
Herrera grounded into a double play swinging at the first pitch he saw in his first at-bat. He struck out in the fifth. He lined out to second baseman in his final at bat.
“I was just happy that I had good contact,” Herrera said.
He booted a routine groundball hit deep to his left, while playing on the grass, in the ninth.
“I’m sure he was a little nervous,” Terry Collins later said. “It’ll be fun to keep watching him play.”
