Dilson Hererra was nervous, but made it through his debut

20-year-old 2B prospect Dilson Herrera was 0-for-3 with a fielding error in his big-league debut with the Mets on Friday night.

“To be honest, it was a little bit of nerves going into the first inning, but after that it was fine,” Herrera said through an interpreter after the  game. “I felt good the rest of the night.”

Herrera grounded into a double play swinging at the first pitch he saw in his first at-bat. He struck out in the fifth. He lined out to second baseman in his final at bat.

“I was just happy that I had good contact,” Herrera said.

He booted a routine groundball hit deep to his left, while playing on the grass, in the ninth.

“I’m sure he was a little nervous,” Terry Collins later said. “It’ll be fun to keep watching him play.”

Of course we are stacked in the 2 and 3 hole with Curtis and David...

Batting 7th again with fellow rookie Flores in the 8 hole...

Next year Herrera and Flores will start to bloom and we will soon forget about Mr. Murphy......I love Murphy but if we could get a Kris Bryant type of player [good luck] for a few top prospects and a major league pitcher I'd do it...He's incredible...

Mets will miss Murphy's bat, the only consistently good one this year. But, in this time waster of a season, not bad to get an extended look at another rookie, for future planning purposes. Wilpon's will be salivating if Herrera excels as they could trade Murphy in the offseason to unload more salary.

Kris Bryant...

He should be batting leadoff if we want to put him in a position to excel!!

What do you mean "Made it through" ? Played without getting injured? Played without getting taken out? Played without going AWOL like Dimitri Patterson?

Herrera is big time. In a month, everyone will believe.

The big question for this weekend is: will Colon still be on this team? His value will not be higher in the off-season and that salary needs to be cleared to spend money on a bat. Are the Angels, Royals, Tigers, Orioles or Dodgers not buying?

Is a terrible hitter with a pathetic obp

Rooting hard for this kid, been saying for months he's the future and now he's present. Murphy get's traded ( maybe as part of a package)  for a OF or SS

Dilson is going to have a big night tonigh-PITB,that is if,god forbid TC doesn't bench the poor kid.Wouldn't put anything past these morons.

Regardless of the Mets state,I'm rooting hard for Dilson.

Willie started his career at 20 going 2-25. Glad there was no Met Blog back then or he would have been berated by some of our Resident Experts

It'll be fun to watch Terry get fired. He'll be another forgettable mistake in franchise history.

He now has 1 full game and 3 whole at bats under his belt. Where's the mets blog "is he ready?" poll??

Bring up Noah. Go to a six man rotation.

I am now officially totally confused about Terry Collins. last night he surprises me with the double steal in the seventh, so can anybody explain why it took till late August to start playing that way. I still am dumbfounded by his lineups, like not dropping Wright or not hitting MDD leadoff or why he keeps Granderson in the top of the lineup or the whole CY affair. But then he goes and does a 180 in the seventh inning of last nights game.UGH.

Its painful watching those two this year...a big part of why the Mets offense is...pretty putrid overall.

@Söze, Keyser Murphy is a actually a valuable trade piece. If Herrera makes Murphy expendable, then why not use him to bring back something legitimate? I still think the most likely scenario is seeing Murphy and one of Niese or Gee, and maybe someone like Montero, packaged for a big-time outfield bat. I just don't know who that would be....

One game is tough to judge, but all of the position players they have called up the last few years, only Lagares has impressed me at first. Herrera is now the 2nd.

@jenkins I dunno about "Big TIme" sticking. It reminds me of how "fetch" didn't happen.

Tigers could get him for Iglasias if they would wake up and get the deal done

@shawnp6986 If it weren't for Collins, Hererra and Flores would be on the fast track to the hall and the Mets would be in the playoffs!  But, we're stuck with the old bag Collins.... unfortunately!

@gangsta You know what will be even more fun to watch?... when nothing changes and you complain about the next manager.

Mr. SERCH
Mr. SERCH

@matmil agreed...it's only 105 ABs, but Lagares has a DECENT (for this team) .327 OBP batting lead off...he should be doing so the rest of the year, try him out like everyone else is getting a try out....Wright should be batting 2nd or 5th, maybe even 6th, depending on who's playing...

personally, i'd go Lagares, Flores, Murphy (before the injury obv), Duda, Wright, Granderson, Darnaud, MDD/Campbell/EYJ, etc

I'd put flores 2nd because he doesnt seem to strike out much, so maybe putting the ball in play while batting 2nd can make things happen

next year though, i'd go KEMP, Wright, Murphy, YASMANI TOMAS, Duda, BAEZ/CASTRO, Darnaud, Lagares....hey, a guy can dream, right??

@Söze, Keyser

Exactly...so, if Collins wasn't afraid of them he'd put them where they belong...really on the bench but since money is big...they should be swapped with Herrera and Flores...NOW...lets win!

Söze, Keyser
Söze, Keyser

I agree with the value Murphy could have in a trade, esp packaged with a Gee or Neise...provided DH is a legit MLB 2B. Problem is I don't think we'll know the answer by end of season...DH is 20...

To your previous point about Alderson not delivering a legit offense...again I agree. Undoubtedly, Ownership is handcuffing any decisions despite what Alderson says. However, the C. Young signing was baffling. The one (sort of) legit offensive player he brought in during past few years is Granderson, and he is channeling Jason Bay.

shawnp6986
shawnp6986

Lol Not at all saying that, but TC does have a way of stunting some of these kids growths when they reach the MLB level.I'm not one on here that blames TC for everything, but he is part of the problem.

Regardless,I think Dilson will bounce back and have a great night tonight.

Why are people complaining Ahole shinjoooo ?Because they suck. You're too wet behind the ears to remember what winning is like. Damn right I'll complain until they give me a team and manager to be happy about. You keep cheering for Terry loser. Go watch little league where everyone gets a trophy.

Mr. SERCH
Mr. SERCH

@shinjoooo @gangsta well technically, if nothing changes, wont we have the SAME manager, and we'll all STILL complain??? lol jk...

but i agree with your point----there's more complainers than there are optimists here, but i think that's more a product of being a tortured MEts fan than just being a complainer...i guess

Mr. SERCH
Mr. SERCH

@saxon @Zach Goeringer he's a bum, he shouldnt even be here....he needs AAA....come on, his FIRST game and NO hits, NO home runs???

Time to give murphy a 7 year, $105 million contract...cuz CLEARLY dilson is in over his head and a fluke

saxon

@Mr. SERCH

You're right with Flores batting in the 2 hole... Baez and Castro no thanks... I want KRIS BRYANT from the cubbies...

Zach Ripple
Zach Ripple

@saxon @Söze, Keyser Or you could just realize that Sandy Alderson has failed to deliver any real offensive players to this team. Granderson and Wright would perform better if they had better protection, and Wright is struggling largely from his shoulder injuries. Flores and MDD have been terrible, Tejada has outperformed Flores. MDD is, at best, a fifth outfielder. Mets seem to have a lot of fourth and fifth outfielders on this team. EY, Chris Young, Bobby Abreu, Kirk, MDD, Andrew Brown, etc. And it's not like Lagares and Granderson are terrific outfielders that can offset not having a left fielder. Left field is this team's biggest hole. Shortstop is a hole too, but every team, even the very worst ones, have a legit bat at a corner outfield spot. Heck, even San Diego has Seth Smith. That's usually a given on most teams, and the Mets have nothing.

hubie_wc
hubie_wc

What has Flores done to warrant hitting 3rd. His numbers are horrendous. Granted wright and Grandy are amongst the worst two hitters in the nl in August, but I'm not moving them for Flores. If anything I'd swap den Dekker with Grandy and perhaps TDA with DW. MDD hasn't hit much but he has drawn walks and can steal a base.

Söze, Keyser
Söze, Keyser

Well...you're right about salary...no one wants to have a ton of cash riding pine...David has done enough to avoid benching IMO (assuming he is healthy). Grandy OTOH, looking more and more like Jason Bay 2.0. Is there any limit to the number of balls in the dirt a player can flail at in a single year? ;)

shinjoooo
shinjoooo

@gangsta Haha, ok internet tough guy.. keep believing this team is bad because of the manager..

Mr. SERCH
Mr. SERCH

@gangsta somtimes feels like TC has the same mentality---"everyone gets a trophy"....calls every opponent a GREAT ball player....holds no one on the team responsible for what they do, oh except Harvey, who he has no problem berating for "pushing himself' On his rehab..real smart, bash the guy who will probably be our best player, and a guy who isnt even on the team

Legates not e terrific outfielder????? On sports center almost daily.

@hubie_wc

Flores batted 3rd most of his minor league time and produced in the 3 hole...He's failing in everybodys eye because he's not a 8 hole hitter...He's led off so many times in that 8 spot...He needs men on base 3 out of 4 at bats and he will drive a lot in...the 1 chance he gets in the 8 hole a game doesn't always work . Look at his stats...I know its AAA....but not everybody produces like he did in the 3 hole...I love him and think he will be more than most now on this board believe.....

If you think Terry is a good manager, you deserve him Ahole sinjoooo. I'm sure you are a weasel just like Terry. The Wilpons need fans like you who accept this garbage, loser
