MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at New York Mets

Dillon Gee to DL with lat strain

Dillon Gee has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right latissimus dorsi muscle in his back.

Gee said that he had an MRI and it came back clean. He hopes to be back after two turns in the rotation.

Gee threw just 81 pitches in his last start on May 10. He allowed three earned runs over six innings against the Phillies. He said he didn’t feel any pain during his start.

On the season, Gee has a 2.73 ERA over 52 2/3 innings (eight starts).

Gee to the DL allows the Mets to call up Rafael Montero from Las Vegas without making another roster move. Jacob deGrom will start for the Mets on Thursday.

The mets need to get rid of their pitching coach, since he doesn't know anything that is going on with the pitchers..

The Qs for me are: When did this happen & how did he do it?

The post only quotes him as saying he felt fine in his last start (the short one).

I'd rather see Dice-K as the spot starter, and let DeGrom get acclimated to the bullpen.

ugh, is Gee destined to be the next Tommy John recipient?

I feel like every time things start to look better for the Mets, I come to Metsblog and there is news of a Mets player going down with an injury.

hey everybody this just in..FLORES SUCKS. and tejadas has been ripping the ball and been playing great D as much as none of you wanna admit..ruben should be playing

For all you guys yelling and crying about Terry pulling Gee early last game, this just goes to show that most of you don't know what you are talking about. There is so much information and other things going on off the field that you are not privy to. Yet you constantly second guess the manager, GM, etc. when you don't know that you are talking about. It's laughable.

Seems like all these kids burn out pretty quickly or worse....Mejia already shared his concerns about getting hurt... I don't remember Seaver, Kooz, and Gentry ever complaining... ever...nor Ronnie and company...

@jenkins Lagares. LAGARES. Both should be in the lineup, Chris Young should sit. EY leads off, Lagares hits 6th

Last nights 50+ pitches rule him out for the spot start tomorrow.

@Nicholas Vargas I know, its like a side note. "Oh, by the way your current ace is going on the disabled list, but enough about that, lets talk about how Ruben Tejeda has a 4 game hitting streak for the first time since high school".

TheJMan

@Chris Lyons and if Tejada goes 0-fer tonight? they panic and start Flores tomorrow?

what's got people annoyed and bothered is the inconsistency

inconsistency with the talent, the announcements of the this plan and that plan, then the reversal

this is the Mets .. not the fans reaction to it

@Chris Lyons He's preformed well for 4 days over the course of 3 years. I'm glad he's finally woken up a little but to say he's better than someone who was on pace for 110 rbi in vegas last year is just plain nonsense.

Steven Glansberg

He said he was fine at the time after the game, so how else are we suppose to react?

@moep  Flores got sick, allowing Ruben an opportunity to convince Collins to give him another shot.  Horrible timing for Wilmer to get sick.

@Steven Glansberg  Maybe instead of acting like you know more than a man who has been in baseball - IN BASEBALL - for 30 or 40 years, probably more - you will not miss the opportunity to keep your mouth shut, because you think you know more about baseball, but you don't. Any manager in the major leagues knows more about baseball, much more, than you will ever know in a lifetime.

Steven Glansberg

@metjetnet @TheJMan  Also, Gee wasn't happy he got pulled, but since terry is the Nostradamus of managers you're correct.. He didn't have a major league managing job for 10 years but he's the best manager of all time, got it

@TheJMan

"There are plenty of fans who watch the game and know a lot and what should and shouldn't be done and more importantly, when a manager is inconsistent with his managing or an overmanager or a 1000 other things"

Make that "All fans watch the game ... things."

That's why they're called "fans."

@TheJMan  No, fans don't have enough information to know what went into these decisions. And fans think they know about the sport (many have never even played, even if not at the professional level)  and they sound foolish and are foolish. You can have opinions, but they mostly ignorant, uninformed, laughable opinions.

TheJMan
TheJMan

@Steven Glansberg
then why do any managers ever get fired? because the never-ending breadth of knowledge?
TC is such a dynamic baseball mind?

There are plenty of fans who watch the game and know a lot and what should and shouldn't be done and more importantly, when a manager is inconsistent with his managing or an overmanager or a 1000 other things

If Gee didn't ask out--criticism of taking him out after 81 pitches WAS VALID -- especially after genius Collins left Mejia in to give up 8 runs in CO -- especially after TC started Rice the next inning to face lefties then let Farnsworth pitch to Howard with 2 outs and a base open with a righty on deck

so spare us your righteous indignation about FAIR criticism of a pretty inconsistent manager who is a dinosaur and needs to go
