D’backs trade OF Chris Young to A’s, acquire RHP Heath Bell from Miami

The Diamondbacks announced they have acquired RHP Heath Bell from the Marlins and INF Cliff Pennington from the A’s.

The Diamondbacks have sent OF Chris Young to Oakland and Minor League prospect Yordy Cabrera to Miami.

Young hit just .231 with a .311 OBP and .434 SLG with 14 home runs and 41 RBI in 325 at-bats with Arizona in 2012.

Bell went 4-5 with a 5.09 ERA with 19 saves in 27 opportunities for the Marlins in 2012.

In a recent report for Arizona Republic, Nick Piecoro said the Diamondbacks seemed intent on dealing Young this winter, although they could still deal either Jason Kubel or Gerardo Parra this winter.

However, Piecoro says the Diamondbacks will probably hold onto Justin Upton this winter.

Meanwhile, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports says it’s possible the A’s could deal OF Coco Crisp this winter.

Crisp, who turns 33 in November, hit .259 with a .325 OBP, 11 home runs and 46 RBI and 39 stolen bases in 455 at-bats for Oakland in 2012 – he hit .265 against right-handed pitching, .244 against left-handed pitching.
