Dec 9: Pitching Rumors from the Winter Meetings

11:38 pm: The Mariners believe if they give up RHP Taijuan Walker, they could land Rays LHP David Price. However, they would prefer to keep Walker (Heyman).

11:24 pm: The Yankees have asked the Reds about RHP Homer Bailey’s availabity (Barbarisi).

9:38 pm: The Indians are listening to trade offers for RHP Justin Masterson (Rosenthal).

8:50 pm: Toronto could be targeting Cubs RHP Jeff Samardzija (Davidi).

3:28 pm: The Rockies have interest in Royals RHP Wade Davis and A’s LHP Brett Anderson (Renck).

3:00 pm: The Dodgers and Rays might be matching up for LHP David Price (Levine).

2:31 pm: Free agent RHP AJ Burnett hasn’t decided if he will return to the Pirates or retire yet (Rosenthal).

2:00 pm: The A’s have made it clear LHP Brett Anderson is available in a trade, but is viewed as a Plan B arm (Sherman).

1:55 pm: The Rays aren’t pushing hard to move LHP David Price right now (Sherman).

12:28 pm: The Cubs are definitely listening on RHP Jeff Samardzija, but the price is high (Sherman).

Michael Baron, Contributor

The pitching markets have been relatively stagnant so far this winter. I wonder if free agents are waiting for deals to go down for the Price’s and Samardzija’s before trying to build their overall market. They could conceivably appeal to those who don’t land the big arms via trade…

12:12 pm: The Angels continue to search for starting pitching, but have little to offer in trade (Shakin).

11:27 am: The Astros are looking for more arms for their bullpen this week (McTaggert).

10:20 am: The White Sox are willing to listen to offers for all of their pitchers, including LHP Chris Sale. If the White Sox are willing to move Sale, the Diamondbacks would be seriously interested (Olney).

9:40 am: The Dodgers have made their interest in LHP David Price known to the Rays (Hernandez).

6:42 am: The Orioles are not expected to sign a high-priced starting pitcher (Kubatko).

Dec. 8: The Nationals are in contract discussions with left-handed reliever Eric O’Flaherty (Kilgore).

Dec. 8: The Mariners are targeting LHP David Price and RHP Joaquin Benoit (Heyman).

Is ending each post with "..." standard for Metsblog?

Anyway, I like Colon. The guy can still pitch. He is an injury risk, but he will give you quality innings and could serve to be a mentor to the younger pitchers.

The more I handicapped this the more I think...

Ike Davis goes to the Milwaukee Brewers for a RP....The guy's value is not what everyone thinks it is....People are not knocking down the mets door for a guy that hit 200...Either Jim Henderson or Brandon Kintzler....hey its better then a prospect u never heard of...

So is it just a slow posting day or has Livefyre really driven everyone away?

This should be a huge posting day and this place is a ghost town.

A's making Brett Anderson available is interesting.  I still think very highly of him - wonder what they're looking to get back.

I would like to get C J Crom but for what would the Angeles go for a Montero?

The Angels are desperate for starting pitching but seem not be intrested in the current FAs. So, here is a deal for you Angels; Gee, Familia and DeGrom for Aybar, Kendrick and Trumbo.

I'm surprised the Yankees aren't in on Sale.  They need pitching in the worst way and the Rays would keep Price rather than deal with them.  They do have a few nice prospects and a glut of OF's to move.  You'd think they'd be able to work SOMETHING out.  But instead, they are looking at Ibanez.

Chris Sale is the real deal.  Send the ChiSox your 40 man roster and provide them the liberty of picking two.

Aybar and Trumbo for Gee, Tejada and Duda??

Curiously absent - Mets listening to offers for Dillon Gee or Jon Niese.  I hope that is the case!  We should be sellers of above average starting pitching given the depths of our pitching in the pipeline.

Chris is on sale and I'm buying.

The Dodgers with Price and Kershaw would be scary.

Another idea the Pirates have Travis d'Arnaud brother who is a ss behind Jody Mercer why not try to get Chase d"Arnaud

How about Clint Barmes as a share ss with Tejada  and if one breaks out then you start that guy more

Wow. Chris Sale.
I hope the Yankees don't get him.

Wheeler, Syndergaard, Nimmo and Flores for Sale

Sale is suddenly the best available player.

why would we trade Gee and De Groom if we are short handed in our rotation? i am not arguing just questioning. we all have grandous offers but unlikely Sandy makes a bold move like that.

A barren farm system is what kills the Yankees.

@Brent Terry Ibanez is only one of several moves they're likely to make.  The Yankees have nothing talented AND inexpensive that the Pale Hose might be interested in.  I think that's the deal killer.

We'd run out of upside down "p"s. And Matt's head may likely explode.

@Ron Davis I suggested him the other day.  Definitely a fallback, but at least he could push Tejada.  Great glove, has hit in the past in Colorado though his bat appears to be in rapid decline.

@Ron Davis Because if fills our needs at SS and 1B with proven guys. They would make the Mets wild card contender right away. And I'm pretty sure we can find reliable guys to step iin until Montero and Thor get promoted later in the year.

@Joe Paulson Curious as well. If we've already talked to TB about Escobar, I hope they enquired about Price as well.  A trade-and-sign would be huge.

Wrong. Sale is as good as Harvey. He already at the age of 24 is the 2nd best LHP in MLB. Only Kershaw is better.

Yeah but you're giving up 2 potentially great pitchers for 1 already great pitcher. Plus Nimmo and Flores two potentially solid MLB players.
