Trade Jon Niese to the Angels for Trumbo. Move him to RF. Chris Young can play CF

Tejada

Murphy

Wright

Granderson

Trumbo

Young

Duda

d'Arnaud

Sign a pitcher to replace Niese and off you go

Ricciardi just gave the worlds worst interview on Mets hot stove. Said absolutely nothing, gave no information. Defined trade about 5 times. Wanna maximize returns, make team better. Sandy has these guys well trained.

if the mets can trade murphy for a dime a dozen middle to back end of the rotation pitcher, then they will be all set for a solid playoff run and most likely a division championship.

they have to deal from a position of strength, which is their abundant offense. there is just no room for a 90 + R high average hitter in the mets lineup this year. they already have wright, do they really want to maintain 2 run guys that can hit for average? aren't we getting selfish as mets fans to expect that?

You people obviously want to give up Jenrry, Montero and Gee for a bat.

Will you guys start until Thor and Harv are ready.

I miss those those those 13 - 8 games

Playoff pitching staff, who care s!

Slam dunks, Darryl Dawkins, bam!

Home runs!

Screw pitching!

Let us spend $140M on salaries

Before we lock up the young starters, Harvey, Whlr and Thor - dump pitching depth for Kemp, Gardner, Trumbo, Cargo, Escobar (1 year control), Starling etc...

You forgot to trade Vic Black, and five pitching prospects in Las Vegas...

Go look at winning WS rosters, look at the staffs before you post!

Darryl Dawkins!

Sammy Sosa!

Nelson Cruz!

Mark McQuire

Bartola Colon!

A-Roid

Jonny PEDs!

Roger Clemens!

Fernando Martinez!

Puello will be here on August, do not dispair!

I'm so tired of the nickel and diming on this team. Let's just hope that the Wilpons sell before Harvey, Wheeler and Syndergaard become free agents because they'll never be able to afford them.

If the Angels lowered their demands then go after Trumbo for 1B. He'd be a great pure power source that could hit behind Wright and Granderson.

If the Mets can really move Murphy for rotation help, it'd be nice to see them move Niese or Gee for Gardner, if possible.

Would Gee do it? Make that trade. Gardner is so underrated.

Now the Chris young signing looks worse since we should be trading for Dom brown. Regardless, a package needs to be assembled for one of AZ's shortstop youngins, as was said by another user. Trumbo? Passss

Why aren't the mets going after trumbo

If they're "rival executives," why would they ever give an honest appraisal of what a player on a competing team might attract on the open market?

Are these outfield rumors not relevant?

How are the mets not doing anything they can to get either Gregorious or Owings from Arizona? They want a SP how bout montero as a start then go from there if they overpay a bit in prospects that's fine..mets fans need to see improvements .

We're a better team with Trumbo nowhere close to the OF. He'd be our 1b but don't worry we're not getting him.

dumdeeduda
dumdeeduda

RF? At Citi Field? No way he would have positive value.

tommets

@Justin Anthony I'd rather have Lagares in OF because of his fielding plus Trumbo isn't the best fielder. He would be good at 1st IMO. Tejada isn't a leadoff guy.

md92468
md92468

@ton Amazing how ready some of the folks are to dump Murphy, ain't it? This is a team full of .240 hitting / .300 OBP guys who'll strike out 100+ times a year - they need MORE like Murphy, not fewer.

dumdeeduda
dumdeeduda

Haha. You're worried about playoff pitching.

@gothamsane i know. the nerve of mets fans to want proven offensive production. why do that when the mets can have a thousand unproven arms with potential and no offense?

thankfully, the mets didn't immediately traded izzy, pelf, and wilson. and now we have all those rings to be thankful for. potential is a hell of a thing.

I gotta stop watching this show talk about depressing. Penny pinching is getting real old

Whaat? Why would you give up niece or gee for Gardner? They have so much more value than him

Niese or Gee for Gardner? No thank you.

@dumdeeduda go for Mason Williams instead....he is about a year away from the Majors but i think he is already better than Gardner.....might as well get a guy who is cheap and will be under control for a long time

mrdickey

I wouldn't. Gardner would come to the Mets and stink.

@sell Do you think it would be right to trade Chris Young during the Winter Meetings? I'd like to get his contract off the books already.

Pass on Trumbo bc with the other OF, it's k-ville. No reason we shouldn't be able to slot him in at 1b though instead of Ike and the dufas.

Great point about AZ and their shortstops. It would take a lot to get them though.

I like murph as much as the next guy but he's not a high obp guy either and has no power. He's a streaky but solid line drive hitter who isn't intimidating enough to rack up BBs. I'd move him in a pack for a ss then move EYjr to 2B even though there's no guarantee he can handle it everyday.

Ah didn't see your explanation below, sry.

You should go check Gardner's stats again. He'd be the Mets' center fielder and lead off hitter in a heartbeat.

dumdeeduda

Gardner is so undervalued. Excellent defense, speed and gets on base. Great top,of the order guy.

sell

Absolutely. His one year 7 mm is handcuffing us haha. But there were better options for sure. Hope he can do a 240/320/480 22 HRs and < 175 Ks that's best case scenario

@ton @md92468 @tommets Especially when there is a surplus of young pitching which you certainly wouldn't want to trade for more plus trade away the little amount of quality bats.

md92468
md92468

@tommets @md92468 @ton I'm not saying they shouldn't trade him...but they should do it only as a package for a clear upgrade - not a one dimensional power guy or middle rotation pitcher...honestly, I'd rather see him go for prospects if that's the case - at least they'll get something of value for him and clear salary...

LastSaneMetsFan
LastSaneMetsFan

Stats....270 avg , 25SB , a weak arm and he's 31 year old outfielder...how is that amazing? We Should definitely trade a viable left handed starting pitcher for him since left handed starting pitchers are a dime a dozen.

dumdeeduda
dumdeeduda

I like Gardner a lot, but it's hard to get behind trading Niese for 1 year of Gardner. He's not going to be the guy that puts them in contention. Maybe for a trade and extend.

dumdeeduda
dumdeeduda

Maybe due to the length of control, but otherwise, no, not at all.

dumdeeduda
dumdeeduda

Gardner is so under valued. Just not enough control left.

metfan9876
metfan9876

Niese and Gee are worth more than Gardner

CJM
CJM

That's why I qualified it with the comment about the Mets' possibly moving Murphy for rotation help. If they were to trade Murphy for a pitcher and also sign Bartolo Colon, Niese and Gee both become expendable.

tommets
tommets

@CJM I'd consider that deal if Harvey weren't hurt. I think we need Gee and Niese for this season. Gee is a workhorse that I think is developing into a pitcher that is a little more than an innings eater and Niese is going to help us. If Harvey were pitching this year I'd say take a look.
