Metsmerized is pretty good. Haven't checked out amazing ave yet.

With all the threads continually going up it would be nice to see a thread about *realistic* Met trade targets.  Not talking Brandon Phillips, Howie Kendrick, or Jose Batista here.  I'm talking about who we might be able to get in return for Ike Davis, Lucas Duda, or Daniel Murphy that doesn't make big money.

The Yankees have checked in on Pelfrey? I guess they need someone to lick the envelopes for all of those checks they'll be mailing out this season. I mean it can't be for pitching. My God Pelf at Yankee Stadium.... for a full season? We're talking a 15.00 ERA at least

What would be wrong about signing Axford to be our closer and dealing Parnell as a real piece to a big bat trade?

Now one or two good trades and pick up a starting pitcher. Right back in this thing.

Looks like I finally started commenting after years of ghosting at the wrong time... I'll be looking into the other Mets related blogs now...

Looks like we've lost about 75% of the regulars.  This sucks.

What would it take to get Didi Gregorious? What about Chris Owings? The D'Backs have a surplus at SS and a need in the rotation. We match up well.

I used to love this site. Now I have no desire to even come on here anymore. I hate you Cerrone

Why is no one advocating trading for Reyes AND Bautista/encarnacion OR if it's duda to the rays, forget the Mariners, and trade our own prospects for David price. I'm fine with Ike Davis at 1b if we improve at SS and get an sp and bullpen help. It's still too soon to give up on Ike. I refuse to believe that he has high trade value. Duda and Satin will never hit enough, even in a platoon. Davis at least has shown potential.

Also, I like the OF starters as it is set now. I really, really, really like lagares. But if Toronto would rather trade Bautista then E E, how can we not investigate that?

Andrew Bailey worries me...shoulder injuries are tricky and there's not a great track record of quick recovery.

How about Hanrahan?  He had his TJ last May...if he came back to anything like his 2011 and 2012 self, he's a great bullpen piece and asset at the trade deadline.

I think it would be nice if someone from the blog puts up a post explaining the recent changes to the comment section and what changes (if any) will be made to address some people's concerns about it.

Gregorious SS

Lagares CF

Granderson LF

Wright 3B

Davis 1B

Young RF

Murphy 2B

d'Arnaud C

There are a lot of strikeouts there, but I think that's a deep and solid line-up. Especially if Lagares and d'Arnaud can develop into decent hitters. I might consider swapping d'Arnaud and Lagares.

They have a need at the top of the rotation. They are talking trades for guys like David Price. I'm not sure that we match up that well for a starter. If they whiff on Price and decide that they want another lefty for the middle of their rotation, maybe we match up on Niese, but they have a lot of young pitching. Corbin, Miley, Delgado, Bradley, Cahill . . . they've also got Skaggs and McCarthy. I don't think that they'll jump at Niese or Gee. Other than that, they need a corner OF bat and some help at the back of their bullpen. We obviously can't help with the OF bat, but if they are interested in Parnell as a set up guy for Putz, that might work for Owings and one of their AAA relief arms.

Yes, I agree.  Yes the Mets are a bad team with a bad owner, but I'm a fan regardless.  Commenting back and fourth with some of the posters here was fun even if the team wasn't much fun.  I really liked Discuss much better.  As a result I rarely come here anymore. I am sure WillyMaysHays will not be missed, but I'll kind of miss MetsBlog or at least how it was. (it's the little things in life...)

Anyway, Amazin'ave has much better articles IMO, RealDirty as well.

@Matthew Crawford Because TOR doesn't want prospects they want established players.

TOR is on record not wanting to trade EE or Bautista.  The other team needs to have a desire to make the trade too.

dumdeeduda

Because people understand that Reyes has an awful contract and that it would take Wheeler plus quite a bit more to get back the guys that you're talking about and finally, because a lot of folks are reasonable.

Gland1
Gland1

@Matthew Crawford We don't have enough prospects to get Reyes AND Bautista/Encarnacion or Price without wiping out our farm system.  And then there is the little matter of paying those players when we get them.

Gland1
Gland1

@waz0787 I'm actually glad some of that shit has died down a little.  I was getting sick and tired of reading the same thing over and over and over.  I think some of the posters who just recently joined in order to complain have sort of dropped off due to both the new commenting system and the signing of Granderson.

The big issue at this point is you can't communicate with anyone because you don't know if anyone replied to your posts.

Gland1

@bcleveland I don't go there that often, but if you see that they start using Disqus over there definitely let me know.  I like to read Amazin' Ave, but that definitely is for a different kind of poster than you get here.

The other nice part of Disqus was that since there are so many different sites that use it, it was cool to be on a completely different kind of site and still get alerts from here.

@bcleveland The only thing this blog has going for it is us - its community. If we leave, there's nothing of value here.

This implies they care about our thoughts even if they are relevant complaints. (We have to use the word relevant in every post too, righty?)

@mets2891 Repost from my post to MetsMinors:

"I don't want to come off as a tinfoil hat guy but I see this as a very intentional move to suppress some of the very public backlash that we were seeing this offseason.

Think about it, the new system places less emphasis on "upvotes," having the tiny "like" option instead of the up and down arrows. Also, the comments now sort by most recent instead of "best" by default. So, instead of opening a thread and seeing disparaging remarks about the Wilpons, you just see the whatever Joe Schmo just typed 2 minutes ago."

Would never happen Baltimore is not looking for a second baseman. If they were going to trade Hardy it would be for an outfielder.

I was thinking they could pick up some salary. I would trade anyone short of wheeler and syndergard in terms of young players. We have enough prospects to make a big deal without giving up those guys.

for me anyhow, it was the old comments section that made me a regular reader of metsblog...this is kind of a dulled down, vanilla version.

It's about the money.  They think that by having you registered with SNY, they can better monetize you and the traffic.  That way they can aggregate all the usage across all their sites and use you better for advertising purposes.  They also want to get you to sign up for newsletters, which is the default when you register for SNY.  I don't think it's about reducing dissent.

Gland1
Gland1

@ac0814 I've also read they need a bat and that they were trying to get Beltran.  Since they missed out I read that they may try to trade for Trumbo, which would use some of their pitching prospects.   So I guess we'll see.  They have a bunch of Niese/Gee type pitchers, and they obviously weren't interested in Niese last year for Upton, so we'll see.

jasonbay
jasonbay

@Matthew Crawford Yikes.  You want to keep Wheeler and Syndergaard and you think you're getting a superstar back in trade?  Try again.

Gland1
Gland1

@Matthew Crawford No we don't, not for the players you listed.  And especially if you expect them to pay!!   But out of curiosity, who would you propose giving up for those guys?

Gland1
Gland1

@mikepiazza3186 yeah all of those people who kept crying that the team was going to sign "NOBODY" all off season have nothing to say now.  Now I'm not saying that Granderson solves all of the team's problems; there are still lots of improvements that need to be made.  But the irrational ranting crew lost one thing to complain about.

@ken1010 That actually makes lots of sense. Thanks for the insight.

@ken1010 I think so too.  I also think they were looking to try to control the comments section a little better without having to have a moderator.  If they were concerned about the way the comment section was going then just suck it up and get a moderator.

ken1010
ken1010

By making the comments visible on facebook or twitter, that too could generate awareness and build traffic to the their sites.  I still think this is just a business move.

Gland1

@ken1010 The registering with SNY was an afterthought.  Their original plan was to have comments only through Twitter/Facebook.

niesesnose

Then don't you think this could be more of an SNY decision than a metsblog one?
