Dec 10: Latest infield rumors from the Winter Meetings

2:02 pm: 1B/3B Kevin Youkilis wants to play on the west coast next year (Perry).

1:45 pm: The Yankees have talked with the agents for 1B Mark Reynolds about coming back (Barbarisi).

1:00 pm: The White Sox have offered 3B Juan Uribe a two-year deal (Rojas).

12:20 pm: The Pirates have renewed interest in signing free agent 1B James Loney (Olney).

11:50 am: The Nationals are balking at trading INF Danny Espinosa, despite interest from the Yankees and other teams (Rosenthal).

11:50 am: The Orioles (Encina) are among seven teams (Rodriguez) interested in Marlins 1B Logan Morrison.

10:57 am: The Rays might match up with the Rangers for a deal involving 1B Mitch Moreland (Stark).

The Rays are looking for a left-handed first baseman, according to manager Joe Maddon on MLB Network Radio yesterday. Obviously Ike Davis fits that criteria, but Moreland does as well. Moreland has his issues, but he’s been more consistent than Ike and is probably more appealing as a result. That, along with Morrison’s growing market could negatively impact Sandy Alderson’s ability to deal either Davis or Lucas Duda. And, if the first base supply continues to increase, it will certainly lessen the front office’s ability to net a significant return.

10:44 am: The Marlins are interested in INF Juan Uribe (Rosenthal).

9:36 am: 2B Omar Infante’s asking price is higher than $8 million per year and a multi-year deal (Olney).

I'm disappointed to see Youkilis leaning west coast. I was hoping to see the Mets take a flyer on him. His recent injury history and age would have brought his price down to a point where a 1 year deal to rebuild his value may have worked (so low risk) and he would present an option at 1B. If it worked you'd get another high OBP player.

'Sandy Alderson, as press conference wrapped up, acknowledged he's not going to go up to suite and pull trigger on deal. So nothing imminent"

Sandy! Wake up!! It's Day 2. Now get your Butt to work and makes us happy

Seems more and more likely that a lot of these players might be back in Flushing next summer. I'd love to get a shortstop but I'm starting to think we're going to end up with a Ronny Cedeno/Cesar Izturis type guy. A starting SS is worth his weight in gold and any combo of Ike, Murph or Duda isn't fetching us one.

Keep Ike, trade Duda. He’s probably worth a decent reliever to some team. Despite his own horrors of ups and downs, Ike has more upside than Duda. He’s younger, and has a better glove. Call me an optimist, I think an Ike/Satin platoon in the long run can be productive and give you average-to-possibly even better than average 1B production. Ike could be terrible yes, but his pitch recognition was much better in the second half. I’d likely want to keep Murphy, unless he’ll be part of a package with Duda, and/or others to land a serious, impact bat

Sandy should go to talk to Jack Z of Seattle and see if he can make a one for one trade Ike for Smoak a change of scenry move that may help both guys .

apparently the rest of baseball thinks Duda sucks..Everyone who has seen Duda play knows he sucks, except for sandy

Infante is not worth more then 3.5 million good player he used to be a value now he is way over priced he has too be more realistic if he wants to get a job. The Royals and Yankees are not even close to giving him that much

I'm not sure who the Mets can get in exchange for their trade chips. They prefer to keep Duda because of the $$ Ike's set to make. But what exactly is his value? 4th outfielder? 4th/5th starter? Marginal prospect?

Asdrubal Cabrera doesn't solve any of our problems

Sandy better strike before Moreland and Morrison get dealt or else we will have both Duda and Ike back with us in 2014.

I mean outside of a half season, Ike has not shown much and if teams can do better at 1B, the Mets are the last team they will contact. Would love to see the Mets explain why Ike, Duda and Satin will be on the team. Sandy needs to get creative here and not ask for the moon for someone that is not worth that much

Ron Davis

We must face it . Ike will be back most likely because nobody else may want him . I say call teams like Pittsburgh if you want to trade Ike . I am not for trading him for the sake of trading him.  I rather release Duda then trade Ike.

@boner1 It's general news, on a baseball blog, the rumblings of which could affect the Mets potential trades.

There's plenty to get on the staff about this site, but that really isn't one of them.

Ron Davis
Ron Davis

Explain that. he is a real ss and can hit and field i want to ask please tell me how he does not solve a issue i would sign him long term if i could

Ron Davis

Unfortunate that is the market. if St Louis signed Detroits former ss and Drew wants about the same.  Ok  that is what the market is i rather pay Cabera 10 then Drew 16

@Anthony Fiore He's a rental, and by all accounts an expensive one. You trade for a guy like that when he's the last piece of the puzzle. The Mets aren't doing anything this year, and there will be a slew of SSs on the market next offseason. Not worth the investment of prospects it will take to get him.

10M for his 2013 production? No thanks.

@Anthony Fiore A playoff team isn't going to give up their starting, all-star caliber SS for anything less than a top tier prospects. There's no incentive to let him go now except for a big haul. The only reason guys like him are even becoming available at all is because the market is flush with teams willing to overpay.

If the price is "sky high" as now is being reported, then I agree....let's pass

If Tejada is our SS then yes it is worth the risk.  Have no idea what it would take to get him

For one year of the guy, no way.

Davis and Murphy and the salary is a wash.

Even in a down year he had 14/64.  In this market, that's worth more then 10M.
