David Wright told the New York Post yesterday he has spoken with and exchanged text messages with free-agent OF Michael Bourn in an attempt to lure him to Citi Field, saying:
“I just wanted to let him know that he would be a great addition here and he’d obviously be welcomed here. … I’ve always had great respect for him and the way he plays the game and have always kind of chatted with him when he gets to third base. … He’s a hard-nosed player. I wanted to be there to answer any question he might have and let him know that with some of the young arms that we have and the young talent we have, we are not far off.’’
The Mets had the 10th-worst record last season, but they have the No. 11 draft pick because the Pirates didn’t sign their top draft choice last year. So, Alderson is reportedly appealing to have his pick protected if they are required to surrender free-agent compensation.
Talking to reporters at Citi Field yesterday, Alderson again acknowledged that he would look for MLB for a rule change in the event he and Bourn’s agent, Scott Boras, can reach an agreement on a deal.

Yesterday I said: “I think MLB is waiting on Alderson, who is waiting on Boras, who is probably waiting on other teams who had interest in Bourn… and you and I are waiting on all of them.” I’m pretty sure the same is the case today…
