David Wright gets ready to hit while on deck 1s

David Wright not in Monday’s lineup, resting shoulder

David Wright is not in Monday’s starting lineup, as he continues to rest a bruised rotator cuff.

Wright will not go on the disabled list, Terry Collins said. However, he’ll be unavailable until Friday when he is expected to rejoin the team at Citi Field.

This past weekend, Wright had an MRI on his shoulder, which he initially injured weeks ago while sliding in to second base . He was scheduled to have the shoulder re-examined earlier today in New York.

“It hasn’t gotten worse until now,” Wright said Friday, when he first reported the injury to the team. “These last three weeks or so I feel I’ve been able to be productive and go through normal baseball things without feeling hesitant.”

Wright had been hitting .400 during his previous nine games, during which the Mets were 5-4.

Can't believe I'm going to say this....Mets must trade DW for his and the Met's benefit. Let him free to experience winning..leverage his tremendous asset to rebuild...get it over with and stop the pathological lying that we're on the right track.  Unfortunately the light at the end of the tunnel has turned out to be a freight train.  To think we're a piece or 2 from contention is ridiculous and unfair to DW....set him free!

If you put Wright on the DL today, they can retroactively start the 15 days to his last game played.  David ALWAYS gives 100% no matter how hurt he is.  He has played with a broken back, a busted hamstring, etc.  He knows no other way to play.  Which is a good thing and a bad thing.  There is no reason to turn a 15 day DL stint into a possible month or two out by coming back too quickly and turning a minor injury into a series one.

Mets management ALWAYS does this.  They force their manager to play with a 24 man roster while someone unable to play takes up a spot.  They either decide after a week of playing with 24 guys to make a decision, or they let the player come back too fast, make the injury worse, and lengthening their time on the DL.  Case in point -- Juan Lagares just this month.

Right now they're thinking just 3 more days, but this morning they were hoping he'd be playing tonight.  They have no clue when in fact he will be healthy.  Use caution for once, let the guy get 100% and only miss 2 weeks, and give the team the best shot at winning while he's out!

You don't DL Wright for an extra week just because you might need an extra backup infielder for a 3 game series.   It's not like whoever they called up would would necessarily even get in this series.  No reason Duda, Campbell, Tejada, and Murph can't play all 3 games.   If bad luck strikes and someone gets hurt, you can always put EYJ at 2b and worry about making a roster move after the game.

Though aside from that stuff...it still might be prudent to DL Wright just to make sure he really is ok.  But I think in this case at least it sounds like the doctors are the ones guiding the decision.  I'm still not sold on Wright being ok in a few days...but him getting checked out and treated by the team docs is a lot better than him avoiding the MRI and insisting he can play  like he's done in the past

It's deja-vu all over again. Bring up Flores to play third and rest Wright until after the All Star break.

If he's put on the DL he misses 3 against Atlanta, 3 against Texas, 4 against the Braves and 3 against the Marlins.

If he can play Friday he just misses those first three.

If it's a bruise he'll be back Friday. If it's worse then he'll be gone for more than 15 days. So let's wait and see.

This is dumb. Put Wright on DL and start acting like a professional organization.

Another genius organization decision by the Mets. 7 games out of first, 6.5 out of the second Wild Card spot, and they prefer to go with a short bench for over a week rather than put Wright on the DL, just so that he can MAYBE come back to play a couple games before the All-Star break and help the Mets what? Be 9 games out of contention instead of 9.5?

Is there ANYBODY in this organization with the power and intestinal fortitude to start holding people accountable for the atrocious decision-making?

What happens when he is rushed back too soon and re-injures himself causing him to be out for longer, or worse, requires surgery?

They are going to wait and see how Wright is this weekend, they will play a man short, because they can not bring Flores back until 7/6. That is the 10 day rule after he is sent down.

I'm guessing this is about selling tickets and allstar votes.  If he can't play for a week put him on the DL, bring up Flores and let him play the bulk of the time at 3B with some Campbell.  No reason to not let him get the proper rest and rush back when the team is going nowhere.

If the Mets move Flores, they will rue the day. Within 2 years he will play 3rd somewhere and dwarf the 33-34 year old Wrights numbers.

So Campbell starts against the lefties today and tomorrow. He'll do well. Wednesday then is the last game before we 're home and, hopefully, Wright comes back. If it's a bruise then why DL him? It's only three more games.

I love the Mets w/ injuries. Remember them saying Gee would miss only 1-2 starts.

This is so typical and so stupid. Trying to sell tickets to home games before the AS break.

MRI shows bruise but no structural damage. No cortisone shot just rest. TC expects him to rejoin team today. TC says if Wright doesn't show significant improvement they have to think about DL,

Fast forward. Wright on line up card as eligible off bench but he is still in NY. Line-up written by same guy who was irked that injury news got out because he wanted Pirates to think Wright was available,

Wright still in NY because he's not 100%. No cortisone just rest. If goal is to rest and be 100%, he needs DL.

Most worrisome. Re-examine had to be discussion of pain levels and mobility. No repeat MRI would be done. If Wright is saying or showing signs of being in a lot of pain, this injury is bad. He played with stress fracture in back for a month.

I seriously can't stand this team anymore. Put the man on the flipping DL, bring up Flores and give DW the extra rest with AS break. Is this hard???

Since they won't actually post the line-up until the game post:

Mets

Curtis Granderson, rf

Ruben Tejada, ss

Daniel Murphy, 2b

Eric Campbell, 3b

Lucas Duda, 1b

Chris Young, lf

Juan Lagares, cf

Travis d'Arnaud, c

Zack Wheeler, rhp

CY gets the start vs the lefty, I wonder if Kirk will get any starts vs righties.

It would be retroactive to last Friday, so he could return the following sat against the Fish. But, with a 4 day break for the All- Star game, he should just rest thru that. Most likely he won't be on the team, even if he makes it, he could still go and not play. My guess is Murphy and/or Niese are selected anyways

eric88

Keep in mind we are much closer to the worst record in the NL than we are to a wild card spot. However, I am also for waiting for Friday .

It scares me to think we're here wondering if it's more than a bruise. One of best hospitals for orthopedics in area and we're actually afraid they missed something on the MRI? But yet, as Mets fans worry we must.

@jenkins once the debt clears....then all will be good again lol

@beerfinger  There's no accountability cause the product on the field is not the focus right now.

They should send a pitcher down and bring up Flores till then. By then Gee will be back and someone would have to go anyways. My prediction, Germen is sent down, Flores is called up, then when Gee returns, deGrom goes to the pen or sent down and they bring Germen back and Kirk is sent down or Chris Young is let go.

@beerfinger The Mets are not in any position to win...nor do they really care about that right now....the bottom line is about getting their finances in order...once they do I think things get back to normal

Actually I most remember people on this board screaming when he was removed after 81 pitches. And he hasn't pitched since.

nwmets

@Cheryl Ann Likely because, no matter what the team does, there will be fans on this blog who say they should have done the opposite.

Instead of wringing hands and throwing blame around, why not wait and see how this injury plays out? It's only been a few days...

Ed Yano

If he can play by Friday he miss 3 more games,if they DL him he misses 12 games. So missing 9 extra games when he is healthy is a good idea in your opinion?

theglider

Agreed. But it's only three games. After that we will see if he's back. Meantime they'll get by.

beerfinger

@ShawnP "the product on the field is not the focus right now."

If so, that should never be the case.

If the product on the field isn't the focus, what is?

Imagine any other business working like that.

Imagine Apple saying computers and iPhones weren't their focus.

Imagine Exxon saying oil & gas wasn't it's purpose.

This is not an acceptable excuse.

I'm not so sure, I hope you are right and that day is soon.

beerfinger

@sandybgone You just made my point. They're in no position to win, so why do this? If they were a decent team within striking distance with a real shot at contending, I could see this being justified. But they're not. They're a fledgling team with AAAA players in the starting lineup.

beerfinger
beerfinger

@nwmets I'm not really sure how/why this response is justified. I was pretty clear and level-headed in my opinion/comments. Just because it might seem like doom & gloom to you doesn't mean it's not true, and you shouldn't kill the messenger.

eric88

He is playing his 4th position in 4 days at LV!

theglider
theglider

If it's more than that then what difference does this week make? He'd be gone much longer than 15 days anyway so let's see if he can play Friday.

Cheryl Ann
Cheryl Ann

He's not OK. Wasn't like him to initially report injury and it's not like him now. Why would Captain not take short flight to be w/team in ATL? Though it seems dramatic, with this team's history his arm is probably falling off and they don't want press to see that the bad stiching job they did with Granny Wilpon's sewing kit didn't work out so well.

nwmets
nwmets

@beerfinger I disagree. They're a fledgling team with AAA players in the starting lineup.

nwmets
nwmets

@beerfinger It's just a response, it doesn't need to be justified. Quit whining and wringing your hands just because David Wright needs to rest his f-ing shoulder.

Cheryl Ann
Cheryl Ann

Because they're the only team in MLB playing with 6 outfielders and no legit ML backup at SS?

Ed Yano
Ed Yano

He is not OK today but they think he could be by Friday. It cost them nothing to wait and see.If he can't play it makes more sense for him to stay in NY and get treatment from the Dr.The intelligent question is why would he fly to Atl?instead of getting treatment.

eric88
eric88

All they have to do is give him, Flores consistant Playing time and we will see. They should fire Terry if they plan on bringing up any other young guys.

Ed Yano
Ed Yano

If then need aSS they can DL Wright any time this week and he will not miss more time because of the All Star break. So the smart thing is to wait and see how he is on Friday.

Cheryl Ann
Cheryl Ann

It was a joke. I don't think they'd even know how to use a sewing kit. LOL.

Truly though- fans have reason to be concerned and skeptical given how poorly injuries have been handled over the years.
