David Wright is pleased the Mets signed Curtis Granderson

Yesterday afternoon, David Wright spoke with reporters about the Mets agreeing to sign free agent OF Curtis Granderson, and said he reached out to Granderson unsolicited early in the off-season to express his desire for him to join the Mets this winter.

“I’ve always been a fan,” Wright said, according to Marc Carig of Newsday.

Wright believes Granderson’s history in New York and his character makes him a very good fit for the Mets.

“He’s played in New York, he’s thrived in New York, he’s won in New York,” Wright explained. “He knows what it’s all about. … Everywhere he’s been, teammates have loved him, fans have loved the way he plays the game. He’s got just a presence about him.”

Wright doesn’t believe Citi Field will hinder Granderson, despite it’s larger dimensions to that of Yankee Stadium.

“He’s proven he can be successful in Detroit, he’s proven he can be successful in Yankee Stadium, and he’s going to prove he can be successful at Citi Field,” Wright said. “The ballpark does not matter to him.”

Now, get rid of Lucas Dud and Miguel Tejada, stiff 1 and 2.

If the Mets signed Andres Gallarragga, he'd say the same thing lol

Mark it. Yankees will be ravaged with injuries come All-Star break. Age and NO Mariano will result in losses. So if Granderson is a Yankee "sloppy second", would that make Beltran a Mets "sloppy third" after stints w/ SF & SL ?!?! Maybe Jeter and Carlos can compare injured knees and ankle just like Quint & Hooper in Jaws. "Show me the way to go home, I'm tired and I wanna go to bed..."

We can enjoy Granderson while you enjoy the loss of your second baseman and your new often injured Elsbury doe boy.

Finally Wright will get some protection and more pitches to hit.

If he would've gave up some of his salary we could've gotten Cano. Well Robbie's father but he's tight with Jay Z and wants to be a brand.

Ahhhhhhhhh u silly mets fans are happy just because the mets spent money and signed someone. Well enjoy those 200 strikeouts, maybe this upcoming season the mets can finish with the most strikeouts in MLB as opposed to finishing 4th like last season (200 k's behind the #1 team houston astros). The Mets are nowhere near being contenders!!! FIRE ALDERSON AND TERRIBLE COLLINS!!!

Not sure why people keep saying Wright now has protection, Granderson seems like he would be hitting in front of Wright with nothing behind them but .200 hitters. Still need another bat behind Wright with legitimate power. Maybe Chris Young finds his power stroke and has a Byrd type season but that's asking for a lot.

@dave27a I agree with signing a free agent pitcher and dealing Harang and Matsuzaka to see what we can get in return. I would also be in favor of dealing Neise or Gee. I think we should focus on this season, and also strong 2015. Masahiro Tanaka, there is no reason why the Sandy shouldn't bid for him. Imagine: Harvey, Wheeler, Syndergaard, Tanaka, and Montero; these are all-star caliber pitchers - all under the age of 25. Lock them all up.

As for the infield, enough of Davis and Duda; CLEARLY they are not the answer. Reshuffle the deck. I am in favor of giving Justin Morneau (age 32) a shot at first, even though I am not in love with him. Dan Vogelbach (age 21) is a first baseman top prospect in the Cubs organization that I would love to see the Mets make offers too. This is a guy I would buy season tickets to see play; a heavy first baseman with left-handed raw power to any side of the field that can also hit for average.

I cry when I see Ruben Tejada on the starting roster; granted the guy has good plate discipline, and defensive skills for his age, he’s, at best, a base-on-balls. Murphy is someone I would like to see stay, but I would definitely trade him if I were the front office because he is coming off a career year, and personally I doubt he’ll be able to replicate it. Anyone who has played fantasy baseball knows of (2B/SS) Josh Rutledge (age 24). I would take a stab at him, since the Rockies have a carousel ride running at that position, and I am not in admiration of the age, and successes, of the current SS FA that are on the market.

The Mets now have a formidable outfield. And I certainly agree with the low risk - high reward, in that of Curtis Granderson. If the Mets are serious on trading Murphy; why not acquire a recovered all-star in that of Grady Sizemore (age 30), and move Eric Young Jr. to second base. When Young Jr. was first signed by the Mets he said he was “open to playing second base”.

I like Davis/. But I think they should get rid of duda and Davis , shift Murphy to first , Eric young to second, and get a shortstop.

we dont need another outfielder. thats not a problem any longer. and Kenny thats what I just said. JJ Hardy is the best SS out there

If tex would kick in some money, id love to try and get Elvis Andrus.  Next year isn't bad at  6.5 mill, but then is goes to 15 mill for the next 6 years then 14 mill for 2 more.  very bad contract, and with a few other ss coming up through their sustem im sure they are gonna look to move him.

Three team trade Duda and Davis for pieces to get Castro at SS

Not sure exactly what it is, but as soon as the Granderson signing was announced, I suddenly started feeling that Ike Davis should not be traded.  With a slightly stronger lineup, and another year removed from the mysterious illness(es), this left-handed first baseman just might get back on track. It's a better lineup with him in it.

Eddy Davis
Eddy Davis

I like the granderson sign but he does strike out a lot and the mets cannot have 2 people in the lineup that strikeout a lot meaning trade ike davis for middle relief guts move murphy to 1st and put eric young jr to 2nd his natural position and we will be set

@pcshea Dice K and Harang aren't under contract so they can't be traded.

@kenmetskni People were bringing that up last night.  There seems to be a way to go into SNY and change your name to a 20 character max.

@Gland1 @pcshea You are right. I thought they were also here for the 2014 season. I also didn't realize Morneau signed with COL. 4 days ago. Good intentions, my apologies.
