David Wright 3 (Baron)

David Wright is happy, confident and supportive of Sandy’s plan

David Wright said Friday that he’s happy to be on the Mets, confident in Sandy Alderson’s plan and excited about the additions of Bartolo Colon and Curtis Granderson.

“I think Sandy will be the first one to tell you that there is room for improvement,” Wright said at a charity event in Virginia (Newsday, Jan. 25). “There is no question that on Opening Day this year, we will be a better team than we were on Opening Day last year.”

Wright said he has long been an admirer of Granderson, who also happens to live across the street from him in Manhattan. Similarly, he praised Colon and described the pitcher as ‘workhorse,’ ‘aggressive,’ and ‘one of the best pitchers in the game.’

“What Sandy is building is not a shortsighted, one-and-done type of year, where you go all in for one year,” according to Wright, who is fully aware of the team’s depth of young pitching in the farm system. “It’s going to be an extended period of time when we’re a playoff-caliber team, and this is the first step in that direction.”

Sorry David. Your team is no better off than you were at the start of last season, but keep telling yourself that.

is this really a met fan base.  you would never know it.   in 2015 we could have the best starting pitching East of the Dodgers at 1/10 the cost.

i guess Alderson caused Harvey to blow out his elbow.  this team will be better than last year and if Thor is the real deal as I suspect he is then the back half of the season will be interesting.

Pitching and defense will carry this team and we have both .  we need to have some good luck on the injury front.  we need Parnell.  we need our starters to be healthy.   Legares is gold in center and he has help this year to cover the OF.   Is travis  the real deal?  that would go a long way in improving the team.

Sandy, do you know how to make trades without having Minyia's giving you to hugh trade chips. You have shown no creativity or ability to do so. Nothing in 3 years, well except getting your butt kicked on Pagan. Has that made you gun shy? That was YOUR last big trade.

Right now this team is pretty similar to last year, this is when the mets really needed and still need to add more talent to the roster or we are looking at another similar season and continued losing. The roster right now has some bright spots and potential but that wasn't supposed to be in 2014 (if you believed the mets organization) so right now is the time to up the game and add to this roster before spring training begins.... go and add another 3/4 talented players from the free agent list (look to make some trades), now is the time to be more aggressive and stop with the BS and nonsense, the goal should not be .500 anymore it should be to be competing for the playoffs and beyond. Take the next stop before spring training and put a more proven team together starting now.

I'm glad David likes being on the Mets....I like David being on the Mets....But it's time to take that next step Mr. Wright how about putting up some monster numbers this year and maybe we can win a few more games....Your career has been wonderful so far...but it's time for a big season... .310 35 hrs 125 rbi's and a couple of walk off's by you maybe can add about 10 games to the win column Remember even Ralph Kiner was traded.....We can lose with ya and we can lose without ya...

How about this how about winning more than 80 games once before labeling this plan a sustained winner? I'm getting sick and tired of wright defending this ownership. How are the Mets at this point much improved over last year. No Hawkins, Harvey, or Byrd. You add grandy, colon and young. How is that MUCH improved?

Great! Enjoy 2015 then. For now, we still have to suffer thru 2014! Your OF def is better but infield is the same. You have no lead off nor cleanup hitter, you're loaded with 230 hitters that strike out a lot and have a project OBP of around 300. Don't see Mets contending any time soon. 2014 was supposed to be the year they turned it around and freed up some money. Now we are looking at 15. Wonder what the excuse will be for next year? Please, sell the team!!!!!!

You will have to excuse us for not getting excited about the possibility of a good team in 2015.

Marlon Byrd (aquired by alderson) for Vic Black ring a bell?? Took nothing, turned it into 20hr then traded him at peak value for a player that might be a serious contributor to the bullpen.

@eric88 having the chips is fine.  stealing Noah and our catcher with one of the chips is where the credit should go.  you have never played poker.  you need to make the right deal and Aldeson killed it with the dickey deal.

he maxed out beltran as well.  try getting that type of prospect these days.  most team a re loathe to give up their best pitching prospect for a rental.

do you want him to trade Dom Smith?  get a grip.
