Prior to last night’s win over the Marlins, David Wright performed agility drills on the infield and is expected to increase his intensity running the bases today.
“He did more side-to-side stuff on the infield, more of having to come in on a slower-hit all to test the body control stuff,’’ Terry Collins explained. “It looks great. We’re going to advance the effort [Saturday] on the bases.’’
If all continues to go well, it’s possible Wright could return at some point next week.
“I don’t think the clock is going to run out,” Wright told reporters last Monday. “I think I’ll be back at least for a large chunk of the remainder of the games. That’s the goal, and I haven’t really even thought about not playing those.”
Update – 1:11 PM: Terry Collins said Wright could return during the team’s series against the Giants this week.
Wright has been on the disabled list since early August with a strained right hamstring.
