Daniel Murphy 5 (Baron)

Daniel Murphy expected back with Mets on Thursday

4:00 pm: Daniel Murphy is expected to return from paternity leave and be with the team for Thursday’s game at Citi Field, Sandy Alderson said before Wednesday’s game.

Alderson said he is happy Murphy was able to be with his wife during what should be a wonderful time for their family.

Apr. 1: The Mets put Murphy on paternity leave, allowing him to be away from the team to be with his wife and child.

Mar. 31: Murphy is not with the team today because his wife is going into labor. Murphy is in Florida with his wife.

Thank heaven we've evolved as a society that we celebrate paternity leave. Dads should ABSOLUTELY be at the birth of their children.  Although clearly, from many of these comments, not everyone has evolved! Get with the program, people - it is, after all, the 21st century.

Some fans just kill me. Bet a lot of people complaining now over the CBA rules for paternity leave sure didn't mind the rule that gave Harvey a say in where he rehabs. You can't just pick and choose the rules you like for the players you like best. Just like everyone last year was telling Wright to play it safe and not come back for a few meaningless games even though the "typical recovery period and protocols" were followed. Now everybody is on the "Harvey is a warrior and winner" bandwagon because he wants to come back 2 months earlier than doctors usually recommend. Rest assured the games in September this year will be just as meaningless as they were in 2013. Like I said some fans just kill me.

I hope the people that criticize Murphy aren't parents themselves, b/c if you are, shame on you.  Children are your legacy to this world, and I don't care what your job/salary is, they are your priority.  The guy is going to miss 2 damn games to be with his wife and first child.  I cannot fathom how people can be critical of that, when its something allowed by the rules of the game.  Seriously, I hope you cynical fans are better parents than people, or maybe you don't have children, so have no idea what you're talking about.  I find it disheartening to hear any negativity directed towards Murph, who plays the game as hard as anyone, because he wanted to see his family in this wonderful time.  Congrats Murphy family and we'll see you soon Daniel.  God bless to you and your family!!!!

I think Mets should try and trade Murphy for a SS prospect or anyone and give Flores the 2b job. Flores has good upside and Murphy has reached his ceiling already

Look at 2013 -- in June, Murphy hit .227...at least he didn't take his work problems into the bedroom!  Congrats, Murph!

Question for anyone who may know the answer : I bought a standing room only ticket for Citi today. What does that mean? Just that i can get in, roam around anywhere but don't actually have a seat? Or am I restricted to a small area somewhere?

why don't we get a maturintiy leave extra player like Den Decker or Kirk N.

I actually like Andrew Brown a lot...he has some pop and is relatively consistent with it..but he is no 5 hitter in the Majors....

@Mike Dell Italia They get 3 days off, lodge your complaint to the MLB Players Association and I am sure they would laugh it off.

@Mike Dell Italia  This is his first child and his wife lives in Florida. After this who know's when he will be able to see them again. The fact he's ONLY missing 2 games is amazing...and its the first 2 games of a 162 game season nonetheless and your complaining?

@Mike Dell Italia Baseball is a sport. Being a Dad is a lifetime. Comments like these are what makes Met fans look bad.

@The Feels  Standing room only is a ticket into the ballpark. You don't have an actual seat but can walk around and view the game from any concourse. Like the Shea Bridge, along the first and 3rd base lines, or anywhere where you can view the game.

Ron Davis
Ron Davis

@The Feels you maybe able to sit where the food court is but you will have to get up and see by standing you won't have a designated seat/

Brian Webster

@Ron Davis Probably because the game is at 1:10pm and the Mets weren't prepared for this situation and everyone else is still in Florida.

@helloboy Yeah why not announce a new 1B for every game of the opening series. I guess TC doesn't have much faith in Ike today. What happens if he goes 3-4 with 2HR. Does he still get benched for at least the next 2 games?

I'm surprised with CY and Murph both being out that TC didn't start Duda in LF. Then he wouldn't have made any decisions yet as all 4 of EY, Lagares, Ike and Duda would be starting.

@Mark Kohn @Mike Dell Italia I dont think that people who being critical of murphy are that off base. His wife had the baby on Monday? correct? So thats 2 days off, I was back at work after 2 days when my sons were born. Its part of the gig when you are a pro baseball player that you will be away from your family alot. Not saying that he shouldnt have been there for his wife when the baby was born but 3 days seems a bit excessive

@tullydew  Yeah man, but at this rate who is the 5 hitter?
